Not sure why is everyone bashing on this movie, yeah Nicolas Cage performance was nothing to talk about but over all I think it was a very entertaining movie.
I didn't know what to expect from "Knowing". It had a few things working against it from the start. First, I'm not much of a Nicolas Cage fan. Second, the movie also starred a kid. And while I like kids, I don't like them in my Sci-Fi. There are other things I could mention too, but it's all rather pointless because I liked "Knowing" very much.
Cage actually was very good here, though he played a character we've seen in many other movies. You know, the husband who is disenfranchised with the world and with his faith in any and all things, brought on by the recent death of his wife. Plus, he's got a son that he's losing touch with. All of these things had me ready for a snoozer of a film until Cage's character uncovers the meaning behind a mysterious page covered in numbers.
The movie is best in its first 90 minutes, when the unraveling of the mystery takes place. It fades in its final 30, when it wants to become an action flick. I will say that this has a very realistic effects sequence involving a plane crash. It's riveting because it is so real. The erupting fireball and subsequent explosions were as true to life as any I've seen in a fictional film. Director Alex Proyas sends Cage into the horror to rescue some of the crash victims and does so in an extremely effective long take. There are other amazing effects as well, especially the "EE" disaster which I won't reveal other than to say that I can't remember seeing an extended disaster so frighteningly created in a movie.
The reason that I can't rate this any higher is because the ending was not as satisfying as the rest of the film.
"Knowing" starts small in its scope but grows into something almost inconceivably large.
How many films is NC going to play a weird physco and seem credible
Dangerously dumb, and that's really all that needs to be said. I don't know if the film is exploiting the gullible or pandering to them, but the world could have done without this one. Good cast.
You know, I love me some Nicolas Cage!! But..... Let me tell you, this movie SUCKS ASS!! The only good thing about this is the breathtaking special effects. Back from that, the story line is boring... In fact, just watch it without the audio. IMHO
Feels like someone took a spooky idea for a great thriller and dumbed it down into the usual Manly Power Fantasy.
The characters are flat, the old unbelievable, the score is exaggerated like embracing 90s flicks we'd all like to forget, the effects are so badly done it feels like either a joke or a student movie.
It looked so promising in the first 20 minutes. I really cabt describe it as anything but those fantasies you play in your head where your the heroic hero and nothing has to make sense because come on you're just playing pretend in your head?
So same but imagine you got a Hollywood budget to play out this fantasy.
When it comes to WTF endings, Knowing has a doozy. The story follows a MIT professor who gets a list of numbers that predict world disasters, and he soon becomes obsessed with finding a way to save his son when the numbers predict a global apocalypse. Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne lead the cast and give good performances. And the story is quite interesting, full of intrigue and mystery. However, the ending is rushed and comes off as bizarre since it’s not properly developed. Still, Knowing is a daring and provocative thriller that explores some interest themes.
The ending was terrible but overall it's an okay film
The sun causes a new "universal flood".
The trailer gave people the wrong idea of what the movie was really about... Making it seem all post apocalyptic where it was all about aliens.... Lame....
Well, I liked it. But I'm not sure I'd watch it again...
I thought it would be different...
Not bad but a....
I would watch it again...
And the plot is very Nicolas Cage....
worth rewatching, high production values
Had potential but just went bonkers
This is what you get when you order M. Night Shyamalan off wish.com.
The best pieces are:
Beethoven - Symphony No.7 in A major op.92 - II, Allegretto
and
Gustav Holst - The Planets - Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity
Thankfully this has a great Cage performance as I kinda checked out of the story after his character had to go online to see what happened on 9/11...
What a great idea for a film. Unfortunately that’s the only great thing about it. Cage’s usual wooden acting and a stupid ending ruin it. :crying_cat_face:
Really promising idea, then the ending is just so incredibly dumb, and strays from the storyline.
I watched no trailer. I don't watch trailers.
All I can say is that this movie surprised me. Just watch it, don't judge by trailers and pictures.
I enjoyed it, I thought of my own family and wondered what I would do if I were to face such situation...
What an Ending! It Was Great.
Earth. Is it the end? A Good sci fi thriller with mystery and suspense. Well worth a watch.
Very dark and bleak. The only thing that wasn't dark and bleak was Nicolas Cage playing... well.... Nicolas Cage. It was a worthwhile watch and was well-made. Very creepy at times but other than that it was rather pedestrian.
It's been awhile since i've seen this last and I can say it's still a good movie. Strange thought.
Cage is not a brilliant actor but he is versatile. This movie is no exception, while its not brilliant, it's a well conceived twist on the idea of Book of Revelations prophesy and the Rapture, though these are not explicitly mentioned in a religious context. The interpretation of these events is contemporary, rather than biblical and align with many beliefs as well as backed up with some archaeological evidence of supernatural 'deities'. I found the story thoroughly enjoyable, at least until the unavoidable apocalyptic ending.
Kudos to Proyas for this surprisingly good flick!
Weird. Just plain weird.
I don't like Cage exactly because of this type of movies he seems to enjoy participating in so much… Knowing: not worth the time

The first 1/3 part of the movie is really great and i was thinking, wow that's a great one. The next 1/3 of it was only meh and i started to be stupid. The last 1/3 of it was only awful and stupid. Specially the ending. It's really sad they messed it up.
