Koch 1969

  • 100 mins

Fifty years in the political life of the late New York mayor Ed Koch, presented with warts and all. The film is also an insightful portrait of New York in the 1970’s and 1980’s in particular. Filmmaker Neil Barsky is certainly respectful, but doesn’t shy away from including clips that show Koch’s massive ego, his intense need for public affirmation, and the ambiguity of his post-Mayoral life in surprising solitary isolation and without much family connection. “Barsky’s portrait... sinks its claws right into the controversy while touching on the biggest issues New York was facing while Koch was in charge.” (Miranda Siegel, New York Magazine)
