L.A. Story 1991

In it´s own weird way this is probably one of the best romances ever.

Very quirky, a hidden gem of the 90s and one of Martin's best films. A very nice satirical movie.

My quest to watch all my future husbands' movies: Steve Martin :pound_symbol:1

Weird. A weird rom com. It had me in the first half but started losing me towards the end. Just the constant cris-crossing relationships got quite tedious and it made no sense. I understand it's supposed to be parodying LA relationships but the characters felt so dumb it was just frustrating more than anything. But the jokes were good and for the most part, they landed. Very mixed feelings about this movie.

LA Story came out the year that I graduated High School and I remember seeing it in the theater. I loved it instantly as it involved a lot of the things that you don't see in a movie - it was a semi-dark, twisted, romantic comedy. Sure, it is unabashedly syrupy at times and there is a bit of a fantasy aspect to it but that was done by design. The movie was meant to be a semi-spoof of life in Los Angeles. It is a shame that Steve Martin sold his soul in so many other films as he could have been one of the great comedic writers of our time. His early work was fantastic but the only work of his that I have liked in the last ten years was the amazing Shopgirl.
