Lethal Weapon 2 1989

I think, a few films are equal to or better than first film and Lethal Weapon 2 is one of them.

Still good. I used to look down on this one because it does feature Danny Glover with his pants down, trapped by a bomb on the shitter. Watching it again now, its actually kind of touching.

I always forget that this is where Joe Pesci's character was introduced. I figured him for a number 3 intro, but that's when we get Rene Russo. I get why Shane Black is unattached to this emotionally and why he left at the time. I sure would love to read his original script for it and the baller ending the Internet describes. It's funny to hear him talk in disgust at where the series goes, and how #4 features Riggs changing a diaper. I totally agree...but I kinda want keep to re-watching this series and get to Jet Li kicking ass in the fourth one. And Chris Rock being hilarious. I saw LW4 twice in theaters in the same day. I was like 14 so who knows if it'll still hold up, but we'll see.

It's rare to find a movie series where the sequel is better than the original, but Lethal Weapon 2 is one of those exceptions. This action-packed sequel takes everything that was great about the first film and amps it up. The chemistry between Mel Gibson and Danny Glover is still fantastic, and the addition of Joe Pesci as the fast-talking Leo Getz adds a new dynamic to the mix. The film's blend of intense action and humor is expertly balanced, and the stakes feel even higher this time around.

Mostly enjoyable silly romp. Mel's gal is a stunner. Some hilariously absurd action sequences.
Great chemistry between the two OGs.
7.5 for me.

Does not add anything new, but keeps the pace of its predecessor.

“Lethal Weapon 2” drops the half-assed dramatic pretentiousness of the first installment and goes for a more lighthearted tone and tighter pacing. I feel bad for Shane Black’s scrapped script, but the leads have better chemistry, the humor stinks 80’s but delivers, and the action sequences improved significantly. Joe Pesci’s character is annoying as hell but triggers a lot of memorable moments. We are talking about pure entertainment, but I could feel the magic and the heart being in the right place. By far my favorite “Lethal Weapon”, and probably the only more-than-decent entry in the franchise.

"Diplomatic immunity."

The chemistry between Mel Gibson and Donald Glover is great, throw in Joe Pesci and it is even more fun. Lethal Weapon 2 is a great sequel to the first one. Used to watch all of the Lethal Weapon films a lot with my dad when I still lived at home. Gave him the boxset for Christmas and he still watches them every year. My dad has 4 franchises he watches a lot; Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Rambo and Police Academy. Guess which one I don't appreciate a lot.

Still, this was a very fun watch again. Love the humor and action, they do try to put too much into it but it still works. Chemistry between cast member can help movies a lot!

Lethal Weapon 2 makes the classic mistake of going over-the-top, way over-the-top. Richard Donner returns to direct this sequel in which Riggs and Murtaugh are pitted against a group of South African diplomats that are secretly running a crime syndicate in LA. The plot is beyond ridiculous and is full of common tropes that are exceedingly obvious, like the wisecracking criminal sidekick. And that sidekick is Joe Pesci, who joins the cast and adds a lot of unnecessary comedy that changes the tone of the film and breaks up the buddy cop feel. Still, the action scenes go all-out; though some of them get a little cartoonish and are a bit much. There’s fun to be had in Lethal Weapon 2, but it’s lost all of the smart edginess that the first one had.

It's not often that you can say a sequel is 'arguably' as good as the original, but, in this case it is true.

One of the best sequel successes. It's hard to live up to the original, but this one manages to do it.
