If it wasn’t for that wifebeating rapist the director’s cut would be one of my favourite movies.
I'm loving the aesthetic of Nicola Six, but everything else in this film is so bad that I'm curious how different the director's cut is. I must say though, that Jim Sturgess really did a good job of portraying an absolutely disgusting character. 6/10
Having now watched the director's cut it's a shame this is not the one available on VOD/disc because this version makes a lot more sense. The plot is more detailed, the characters (especially Nicola) are more fleshed out, and it actually feels like the plot takes place during an apocalypse, it actually feels like a mystery film, instead of the incohesive clichéd mess that was the producer's cut. It's actually a good movie. 8/10
They said the novel was unfilmable, and judging by this, they were right. A convoluted and mediocre film that aims for weird noir, but ends up being a weird time waster.
