sounds like I'm joking but India Eisley deserves an Oscar for her performance.
A very interesting horror mechanic and a solid double act performance from India Eisley, let down by a somewhat threadbare story. Clichés and tropes galore, but underneath there are glimmers of a good movie if you're willing to stick out this hormone riddled, angsty ride.
I like how the title pretty much reflects what you should do if you're thinking of watching this one.
A pretty forgettable part psychological horror part highschool drama part weird sexual awakening flick that has a paper thin plot that makes very little efforts at giving it all meaning.
Mostly good. Didn't quite stick the landing. But Idia Eisley did a solid job in the lead role. Over all it's a slow burn that could have used some accelerant. It also could have used some lighting. I'm not a big fan of the dark grading used in films like these. It's less atmospheric than it is just hard to view. That said I make more of an allowance for this darkness with a movie because ostensibly we watch them in theatres. No such excuse for TV programs but that is a separate topic.
The problem with this movie is the slow tension building segments didn't really do much to build towards anything. I would have liked to see maybe Diablo Cody take a crack at this instead. A little bit of that Jennifer's Body (2009) energy could have made this film something better. Made it something almost but not quite as disturbing as The Good Son (1993), despite that movie lacking this one's (not so gratuitous) nudity, sex and violence.
Altogether it's not a bad movie by any means. Certainly not as horror-ific as the trailer implied (which is a plus for me but may be a let-down for true horror fans). The movie does want to say something about acceptance but just never really gets there. The story just sort of floats along, not unlike our protagonist Maria, while we frustratingly wait for the movie to pick a direction, any direction like the antagonist Airam.
As far as the story line goes, it’s something different, but sadly it wasn’t brilliantly done.
Still worth a watch, but don’t expect too much.
I got tricked into watching this trash.Al the idiot said this was a good movie I should’ve known anything he likes is a crap sandwich.
I wish I had looked away more often during the hour and a half this snoozefest was on.
The lead actress elevates this to average. It's otherwise incredibly forgettable.
I don't know why there are always so many sourpusses who have to put down a movie as if they were a book author, film director or film critic themselves. Why do they always want to find the perfect storyline when a movie just wants to entertain you from beyond the grave? India proves herself here with her then 21 years as a perfect character actress. I think the entertainment value was good. [7/10]
this movie reminds me of bathroom blonde
