This movie pretends to be simple in plot, but actually its background story is very complex. there's no need to have obvious dialogues or overdeveloped characters to understand the movie's meaing. there are some elements that are awesome that say too much about this universe but are showed in a very subtle way. the miss Giddy's tattoos, the warboys religion, the habit of painting their heads with car grease, the bag of seeds, the nuclear radiation that does not allow to have healthy babies and that's the reason why the wives are very important to Immortan Joe... theres very much material to analise out about this movie. You people in this comment section who attack this movie are too slow, People who critic this way of storytelling seriously are dumb. These people always need that the movie hold them by the hand to understand something, having to get you everything explained. This movie is outstanding, one of the best action movies of the last 30 years indeed, my favorite one after Terminator 2: Jugdement day.
Sometimes I'm amazed about how such mediocre movies can be pumped and overhyped for so little...I mean it could have almost been a decent action movie if it was a little bit shorter, and had at least one tiny bit of developing in the storyline beyond "cool machines driven by freaks chasing in the desert".. All in all beside a great costumes design and props what you are left with, is just some sort a giant shallow videoclip, with a great visual reworking of the post atomic imaginary introduced from the first Mad Max. Oh yes and plus some half naked models.
It's true, after all those useless blurry, hyperkinetic camera movements we got overdosed in the last decades, it's refreshing to see some more traditional shooting with a proper image composition...on the other hand Fury Road to (badly) counterbalance one good thing, need to add something really wrong, hence I have the feeling it will be remembered for one of the worst night photography seen since who knows when maybe the 70s...I mean blue filtering for the night sequences?! c'mon is that a joke?!...in the age of the uber ISO settings digital camera brought even to consumer market? Is really depressing to see so blatantly fake night scenes in a big budget movie...and for no imaginable reason.
I was about to let it go half the way, honestly I made it to the end just out of curiosity...not for the movie itself which became boring pretty soon, but because I was desperately looking for that special something that should have made this movie worth at least some of the praise I had read from audience and critics alike. Needless to say, there was nothing until the end...just you know, the desert...

This movie takes no hostages... The driving was absolutely top notch, the special effects were beyond good and although the action was relentless, it never once felt fatigued or over done. This movie delivers on all its promises. If you want a pure action flick that wastes no time, Mad Max Fury Road is it!
After watching both Dune's back to back, I had an itching for more epic, desert based cinematography and decided to revisit George Miller's masterpiece. This also makes for an interesting comparison. While I enjoyed my 5+ hour visit to Arrakis, I think this is the stronger movie. The amount of world building it accomplishes in just 2 hours is incredible. Combine that with an elegantly simple story, strong central performances, and jaw dropping action sequences, and you've got a winner. After almost a decade, the action set pieces remain unmatched, and it's honestly not close. Comparing the practical heavy stunt work to the CGI messes that are so common now is night and day.
This is the cinematic quintessence of the most literal interpretation of the word "Spectacular". If you have the capacity to follow subtle "show, don't tell" narrative beats and character motivations, and appreciate precisely timed plot developments and environmental storytelling organically affecting the progression of the plot, then you will appreciate a perfectly laid out narrative, with uncannily perfect balance of dramatic tone and thrilling presentation. It's simultaneously uncanny and bizzare, while also being groundedly human.
Everything gets filled in exactly as you need it to understand the narrative and writing developments. And god damn are the action scenes exquisitely designed and performed, and the sound design explosive and punctuated. It's musical—sometimes literally—but it all works flawlessly.
This is one of cinema's greats.
Notes: I actually never watched any of the previous films in their entirety. Also, I watched it in a kind of bastardized "bootleg Black and Chrome", since I could only get the full chroma version in 4K, full quality, and resorted to turning my saturation to zero. I know it's not the way it was intended, but I was sold on the monochrome from short clips, and it really does focus the presentation even more, and I understand why Miller considers it the definitive way to see it.
I always knew that this wasn’t gonna be my kind of movie, but no one is ever going to convince me this is good. I don’t care for any of the choices made. Even the visual aspects, that most people seem to love, are just not for me. And the story is mediocre at best. One big “nope” for me.

Somehow it took me nearly a decade to watch this film. Why? No idea. It rocks. I love Tom Hardy. I loved the game as well! Gonna keep this one short, it’s awesome, I will watch again and can’t wait for the next movie!

I witnessed the hell out of this! Fury Road is non-stop Nitro fueled action from start to finish, easily in my top five action movies of all-time.
The action sequences are phenomenal, from the choreography, to the timing of everything, and the way it's all captured beautifully with wide shots and excellent cinematography. You'd think that with so much action it would get redundant after a while but this movie has perfect pacing. It carefully takes pit stop breaks every once in a while when it's needed, just like a road trip, so you don't get an action overload, and it does so without ruining the momentum.
The characters are very interesting despite the limited character progression. A lot of it is due to the acting and the nonverbal communication. The best character interaction we get is between Max and Furiosa, it's fascinating watching the slow complicity building up between them, it's one hell of an evolution. Everyone on the War Rig becomes a member of the team in order to survive and that's the emotional core of the movie right there. Nicholas Hoult's Nux is arguably the most interesting character study in all this, what an arc! The villains are everything you want in a movie like this, Immortan Joe and his War Boys are equally detestable, funny and even downright scary at times.
The world-building is fascinating, it gets me so immersed. The score is awesome and great addition with the guy playing the electric guitar. I applaude the use of practical effects over CGI for most of this movie. The cars all look so unique. The costumes and makeup make the characters so badass. The hand-to-hand fight between Max and Furiosa might just be my favorite moment but the third act is one of the most intense i've ever seen in an action movie. A masterpiece!

Thinking about it, I would have liked a tv show better, so that the interesting world could be explored more than a movie can manage to do, and hopefully with the long-ass stupid action sequences dialed down a bit.

It's the usual summary - a beautiful film visually, and the concept is appealing but the writing (specifically structure and dialogue) is ridiculous.

I'm glad I stuck with it. I was gonna turn it off but it gets so much better after the storm chase scene. I still can't get over them building their entire society on the one resource they're most desperate for and the motorcycle chase scene looks like a themed Nitro Circus spectacle. But it was enjoyable. And being on a Nicholas Hoult trip lately, this kept my attention more than it normally would have. I still believe this is massively overhyped though. Some of the effects, even for the time, are really bad.
An outstanding addition to the beloved franchise that exceeded all expectations. With its great action sequences, stunning special effects, and incredible performances by Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, the film was a visual feast. Director George Miller created a post-apocalyptic world that was both terrifying and mesmerizing, and the attention to detail was impeccable. If you're a fan of the Mad Max franchise, this is a good watch.

Fury Road was my first Mad Max movie and the restart of the series started my interest. This movie is a frenzy of images and action. The plot is mainly a death race through the desert, making heavy use at the end of the second part of the series and making it the main plot. This should also be all that should and must be said about the plot. When looking at it, you can tell from the pictures and the action that they are and are firm and have only been digitally reworked. I would like to recommend it to every fan of action and people who are not enthusiasts should also give the film a chance.

I really liked this film. I am going to be disappointed in the other films I end up seeing this year. The action is amazing and the visuals are endlessly impressive. I also could not get over how effective the sound was. After seeing the film with my son, I told him at times my heart was racing and I was gripping the arm rests of my theater seat.
I've heard the complaints that "Fury Road" is anti-male. Geez, it is no more anti-male than "Commando". And why is everyone so obsessed with measuring how "strong" the female characters are in action movies? I didn't even think about how fine a leader or how tough Furiosa was. She was what she was, regardless of gender. I actually think George Miller did a disservice to the character because her image was more "manly" than that of the brides she was saving. I'm not certain why Charlize Theron's normal look wasn't acceptable for the part. Maybe I missed the reason...
I realize that Women in film have often been undercut, misrepresented and minimized. But that isn't present in EVERY movie. I suppose this movie could be viewed by some with men being the cause of all of the problems with the world, but the lead male characters were ultimately generous and integral to Furiosa's success. I actually enjoyed seeing the tough old ladies mixing it up with the men during some of the later chase scenes. But am I required to read that presence as a promotion of Feminism? I don't want to. I'd rather promote equal-not-special if equality is truly what society desires. Do strong female characters need to be pointed out all of the time? Why can't they just "be"?
"Fury Road" also contains commentary on religion that is about as subtle as a sledgehammer. I can't speak for other religions, but as a Christian, I have been taught to glorify God with confession of sins, good works, praise and contentment. I'm generally coming up short on all of those things, but I'm bummed about the implication that Nux isn't "right" until he sacrifices himself for someone else. Glorifying God includes good works, which I personally think would include sacrificing yourself in a car wreck if it came to that.
The still photos taken from this movie are amazing. I can't believe how so many of them look like separate works of art.

Even if you watch it several times, it is still one of the most spectacular and action-packed films of the 2010s and rightly won six Oscars (best set, best costumes, etc.).
An insane material battle that you really have to see several times because there are always new things to discover.
I've been hoping for a confirmation from Warner Brothers for a sequel for years.
In my opinion a seventh Oscar would have been deserved for the coolest and coolest guitarist on this planet!

"Max Max: Fury Road" excels at world-building but could have done much more with it. Few other action films managed to create such a fascinating world and transport you into it naturally, preferring visual cues and little details over verbal-info dumping. Still, I hoped it was going to be a little more than a two-hour car chase with grotesque pageant floats. I am aware that narration doesn't play a big role in this kind of film, but then why eat up two whole hours with the same thing? I was wildly entertained for the first half or so, but my interest started dropping once I realized that it was going to be a round trip.
maybe the best action movie i have ever watched. the pace is hella good, the action is intense, im stressed the whole movie but in a good way. i watched it during a flight at 2am, yet i felt awake the whole time
What a suck ass overrated movie
Quite an enjoyable action movie that rarely takes you out of said action. My only gripes are the sometimes shitty CGI (though easy enough to ignore), and the terrible acting from a few of the 'wives', you can really tell a few of them (not all) were hired on looks alone, because holy shit one in particular was a terrible actor that made me cringe with every bit of dialogue she delivered.
Absolute quality movie.....jam packed action from start to finish...defo up there in my top 10 without a shadow f a doubt :grin:

I have mixed thoughts on Fury Road. I loved the story, the characters, the scenes completely drenched in blue or red, the chases, the action. It was a great time. But wow did I hate the costuming for basically everyone except the protagonists. From the electrified yellow hair of the main villain to the baby/man thing, to the bikers with dreads made out of cloth and on and on, I just didn't like any of it. Luckily though, everything else is excellent and overall it was a very fun watch.
Also, on a side note, watching the movie, it came off to me as a bit of a rip-off of Fist of the North Star. A quick google shows FOTN debuted in 1983 and the original Mad Max in 1979. So actually it's the other way around and now they just kind of "borrow," so to speak, from each other. Just thought that was interesting, both are very clearly inspiring one another to the point even someone with minimal knowledge of either like myself can notice it.

A triumphant return to the reckless mayhem and guilt-free indulgence of the early '80s action/adventure bubble. Max puts foot to floor right from the opening bell and never lets up, somehow topping itself over and over again, even when it seems like there's nowhere left to go. It's joyous anarchy, a world that thrives on all of society's dirty secrets; completely post-apocalyptic crazy but also a little more familiar than we'd like to admit.
Of course, it's a visual powerhouse - a glowing example of art direction, stunt driving, cinematography and character design that's damn near unrivaled in modern cinema - but it's also an audio behemoth. Like Inception's deep bellow or Terminator's ominous rumble, Fury Road can convey a looming sense of dread through its frequent, effective use of bass. You feel that rumble? The ride's starting back up again. Junkie XL's accompanying soundtrack is a perfect tonal match, the right blend of fuzzy, maxed-out guitar licks and incessant, pounding tribal drums.
Perhaps most impressively, the film doesn't feel obligated to dig up every last bit of backstory on its way to the finish line. If anything, it revels in leaving that to the viewer, whose imagination is bound to fill in the blanks for such a broad, wildly eccentric cast of characters far better anyway. It's a raucous success, a lethal dose of sensory overload that hits like a two-hour surge of adrenaline. I loved it, constantly shaking my head at the experience and laughing at myself like a little kid at his first R-rated movie. Loved every minute.

Definitely one of the best action movies ever. The visual effects are amazing and the best. The characters are good and through out the movie you really feel for them. The story is very interesting and leaves you wanting more. The action in the movie is perfect and has adrenaline pumping through out all the fight scenes. The ending is a nice happy ending and it makes you glad to see the characters finally to get what they wanted. Overall it’s one of the best movies of the decade.

Excellent Movie. Very exciting movie, I was on the edge of my seat from the get-go. The lore and world that was created for this movie is impressive and sets the stage for sequels.

Oh man, people are deluded if they think this is a great film. Excellent cinematography and action sequences, but it stops right there. No narrative, no acting, no dialogue, and a pretentious soundtrack. I was so disappointed. I had no clue what was going on at any given time, other than the awsome explosions and rad costume design.
I started watching as a background movie to the work I was doing. within 60 seconds I had but my laptop down and was consumed for the next 2Hrs. you are immediately taken in by the so perfectly done action scenes and encapsulated in the Cinematography.

George Miller shows in "Mad Max: Fury Road" how to shoot action. There is no "shaky cam", so we can actually see what's happening.
The "stunt work" made in "Mad Max: Fury Road" is some of the best ever made in cinema.
In the end, "Mad Max: Fury Road" is one of the best action movies ever made, side by side, with movies like "Die Hard" or "Terminator 2: Judgment Day".

Mad Max: Fury Road is a beautifully chaotic display of masterfully executed action sequences with a strong emotional core, and a raw energy unmatched by nearly all of its action genre competition.
This move is like a video game where the space bar, X, or A buttons are involuntarily pressed at all times, thus the audience never sees narrative cut scenes. Those of us who enjoy story aren't even encouraged to care as this movie is one seamless action sequence after the other (with the exception of some brief walking around before the main cast mounts a parade of motorcycles). I'm still left with these questions:
Who is Max? What was he doing just before he was discovered in the desert? Where does he come from? Who and what are the images he keeps seeing? Why does he offer to save the group he has joined only a day earlier? Is he a Messiah? Why is Furiosa attempting to rescue the birthers? Would it not have been easier to escape by herself? How did she come to live so far away from her family? Why does Immortan keep the water so locked up? Because it's dry? Then why on Earth are they wasting enormous quantities of it with a waterfall-esque spigot? How did Immortan come to be the leader of his group? What are his motivations for his power? Why are some of his people albino and others red as the earth? What separates them and makes their struggles unique?
If you're willing to overlook all of these things, then this might be a decent movie. But for as much hype as this movie got, I expected a really great story WITH really great action sequences. Sadly, this is more like a violent children's picture book.
Charlize Theron's acting was superb! Loved her acting in this one. Graphics were great as well, reminds me of the game.
I was excited as a fan of the originals. Played the VHS tapes till death and memorised lines etc. Yes even the third one with Tina Turner in it.
I was very disappointed with this as a movie never mind a Mad Max movie. It would have been better adding slapstick and marketed as a spoof called Miffed Max: Irk Road of displeasure.
Many simple little things from the start annoyed me like Max's escape. Super Max? No struggle at all. Also there's a water shortage and I presume food shortage etc... where did all the bodybuilders come from? This stuff is fine in an old exploitation movies but this is supposed to create a somewhat realistic feel of a society suffering. Did I just see someone with botox?
Too much CGI. Takes you out the movie and because of the way the action is shot with the CGI it looks like a video game cut scene at times. Sadly that's probably what they wanted. CGI occurs when they didn't even need it. Tacky.
Gibson didn't even have to speak as Mad Max and he did a better job telling us how he felt than the potatoes in this. What is Tom even saying/grunting half the time? He's took the hollywood male gruff voice trend to a new level. Sorry George Clooney you've been beat.
Mad max 2 was shot in a way that the action felt dangerous and gritty, almost as though you part of in it, where this has a standard hollywood staged feel but with more of it. Odd how some extra twirling around and jumping on cars on top of what they already do in movies nowadays is supposed to amaze us. More slumped on the seat than on the edge of it action. Not engaging.
Where is the feeling of isolation in this movie? Not just visually but in the characters? Where are the awesome natural looking visuals? We get overbearing visuals that try so hard to look epic. This movies looks like a screen saver.
The characters? Awful. What's going on in this movie anyway? Who cares. It takes forever to get our first bit of suspense between the main charcaters and it's taking a mask off Max. Wooo. Keep it on for Christ's Sake! Even the music sucks during that scene.
On the whole this movie crams in as much staged action as possible and hopes you buy into it with the all the hype and positive critical reception. Who did the wardrobe for this, Richard O'Brian on April Fools? Needless makeup at every opportunity... cuz kids love them colourful superhero movies.
Even the most ridiculous post apocalyptic movies have better plots. If you're gonna have no plot and loads of action least have some memorable dialogue or a bit of meaningful dialogue. 150! I just watched 150 Millions pounds worth of turd that they couldn't even remotely polish.
Side rant: I knew that Kermode would love this trash. What did he hate about transformers? Lot's ov CGI. Aimed at a specific market. All action shot in a particular style. No plot and loads of explosions to compensate. Couldn't hear anything..... weird he liked this then.
Just beyond fantastic. This movie is a 2 hours non stop chase that doesn't ever feel tiresome. And in the midst of all the spectacular action and bonkers driving you have real and subtle character moments and arks. The use of color is superb and even though every character is deformed, maimed and dirty the film somehow gets to show a beautiful deserted wasteland.
This film was absolutley visually stunning.

I will not waste too much time writing about this garbage of a movie, but I feel like it is my duty to make an attempt at saving someone from seeing this. So quick summary: No story whatsoever (I'm not kidding), terrible dialogue (the few minutes of it there is), terrible "characters" (if you could call them that) and barely passable (very repetitive) action. Honestly, one of the most pathetic excuses for a movie I have ever seen.

One of the worst movie from 2015. No background about the characters, bad storytelling, flat dialogs. Did the actors have any script what they should speak? I think not. If you like action and don't give a fuck about storylines than mad max fury road is definitely a good movie for you, if you like stories and background grab another movie!
Probably the Best Movie of the Year. Through out the whole movie there wasn't one thing that didn't seem unrealistic in a post apocalyptic world. Then the struggle between Max and Furiosa is great their both supper protective and extremely driven and at first too stubborn to see that they need each other. Just a great movie over all really hoping they do something with it again in the future.

Late to watch this, but, im not sure I see the mass appeal.
Visually stunning but for me that's where it ends, the story is quite weak and the dialogue even weaker.
Totally enjoyable though as we await the next big explosion or crazy looking mutant. One viewing is enough, I wouldn't watch it again.
After watching "Mad Max: Fury Road", I can say I had alot of fun! If I was rating this movie based on how much fun I had I'd be giving it a nine out of 10. But alas my rating system is based on what I feel the quality of the film is. No I'm not talking points because I had fun watching and I just genuinely feel as though the movies a fine seven outta 10.
There are a lot of aspect in the film that were genuinely impressive. The cinematography was pretty great, the computer-generated imagery was used sparingly. There were some parts that didn't feel visually quite real, but for the most part it wasn't enough to take anybody out at the movies and most of all he was just fun it was like if Death Race 3 wasn't awful.
I'm not gonna complain that there wasn't really much to the story because anybody can tell that the movie wasn't really trying to be heavily story-driven. In all honesty, if the movie is going for the cool and fun factor, I'd rather have it be like this one, where it doesn't spend an eternity dicking around in between the cool and fun scenes. In "Mad Max: Fury Road", the story was just enough so that the cool and fun seems didn't feel stupid and pointless. I like how over the top and ridiculous it was and I wouldn't want the movie to be any other way. In fact I hope the next movie goes even further.
Believe it or not I was reminded of "Army of Darkness" during the fight scene with the chain in the struggle for the gun. There are a few things that annoyed me about the presentation of the movie but they were fairly minimal. There are a few of those family flashback hallucination shots they were a little cheesy, and yeah I know we're talking about the same movie where there's a dude on top of a car playing electric guitar while riding to his death. But I think it's important to differentiate between cheese during something fun and cool
and scenes doing something that's supposed to be dramatic and serious.
As someone that does a lot of editing, there were a few things that were distracting and took me out of the film for bit. When slow footage is sped up to make it look fast, some people just the slow footage sped up to make it look badass.
Overall, this is a FUN and ENJOYABLE MOVIE!!!

And it's a movie about women.
The movie takes the first half of it to the world-building, and it does that successfully. With a series of events--only minimal dialogue--it shows the kind of apocalyptic world Max lives in. The plot is fairly simple, but the world which plot rests on it is convincing. The war boys culture, resource monopoly, woman objectification, etc. The rest of the movie jams the audience with action-packed scenes while slipping insight into the world through several lines of dialogue and character's behavior.
Some relationship/character-building seem to happen off-screen and seem to be implied, but the progress seems natural that you know something has been going on between them. You can see the development of one of the character where he went from a brash, rash youth to a soft-spoken guy. The last scene seems to put off the suspension of disbelief for a while (on how easy they made the final decision after going on for that long), but it is remedied by the action and the last drama involving one of the supporting character. Very solid composition for a fantasy-action movie.

I have be told that I was not in the right frame of mind when I watched this, and I did not get the point. First off I thought it was a comedy as I could not stop laughing for the first twenty minutes.
After that it plodded along for another hour and a half to the credits. Absolutely nothing original in the story, apart from maybe all the strong female characters. The strong female characters who still fall in love and need saving by the men.
Shots such as:
Furiosa looking at the gear lever when Max is confiscating the weapons in the cab.
Followed by the shot of Furiosa actually taking the knife out to ccheck it just to make it really obvious for the people who could not figure out there was a knife there.
The tracking shot of The Splendid Angharad's full belly showing she is pregnant. You know because we had not figured that out in the previous washing down shot.
I can only assume what I will call 'The Flying Stearing Wheel' shot was there to satisfy those viewing in 3D who need to see things exploding out of the screen.
All in all a long monotonous two hours, the corpse of Mel Gibson's career must be spinning in its grave.
One good thing about the film was Nicholas Hoult, he more than showed he could be the next James Bond.
Movie was quite a show actually. All actors are in their own world and every single one of them can tell their particular story. The colours were fantastic and the vehicles...wow. Tom Hardy, good job once again m8.
Wow, that was the most boring, inane, stupid waste of time that I've been through in a long time. A lot of pretty pictures, I'll grant you that, but no plot, no story, no drama, no meaningful interaction, no nothing! Just endless pointless "action" that makes no sense -- kind of like a colorful kids movie for wannabe grownups. I really have no idea how on earth this movie could score an 8+ rating on IMDB.
I just watched a two-hour commercial for CGI. What a collossal dissapointment.

This whole film is a chase , with some amazing visuals which need to be seen on big screen only. Story is light but the journey is very much worth it: frantic action sequences with the camera recording close to it in a colorful palette.. One of the best action films of 2015!
I don't see why someone would watch this movie. IMO, it is a bunch of vehicles chasing another and the only thing that happens troughout the movie is them exploding and crashing into eachother - of course, troughout the whole storyline, everything is happening in a dessert to make things even more borring and monotone. Can someone list me at least 10 reasons why he/she would watch this move?!
Simply one of -if not the- best action movies in a long time. Both Hardy and Theron give a great performance, and the story is very well thought, it's not another empty action movie. But that doesn't mean it's a boring film, actually it is really entertaining. The thing is that what happens in the film is kind of plausible (in many many years, of course).
Not a big deal of a story, but that is highly compensated with a lot of action. This movie never gets bored and Tom Hardy is doing a really good job as main character.

The first minutes, I was a little skeptical ... But soon, I really enjoyed the beauty of the images! It's definitely something different from previous "Mad Max" ... Something stronger visually! And I do regret only one thing, not having seen on the silver screen!
And for the minimalist scenario ... I put -1 point, pity that it is so weak while the rest is pretty good.

Despite the sound mixing being weird/off for dialogue at parts (Tom Hardy/Max), the engine sounds, action sounds are a treat for ears.
This is definitely one of my favourite movies, the excitement doesn't end until the movie ends. Even then, you're still kind of left with a tingly feeling.This is BOMB and it's one of the most exciting films i've ever seen. The cinematography was AMAZING and I had to take screenshots watching it at home because it was too fucking hot, it's like each scene was filmed and tinted with one dominant colour. Cinematography and the actual film itself aside, the way they represented this dystopian world is so unlike anything i've ever seen - some of the stuff is so out there, like the concept of man wanting to be more machine-like and using the V8 symbol as their hangsign. Not to mention the unrealistic use of a plastic bodysuit for Immortan Joe which would be impractical but yet that made the whole movie more exciting. The moment something impractical came into the film, it kind of make me think that cinema can just be explosions and action and stuff that doesn't make sense. Not everything needs to realistically fit to 'fit'. It's out of this world.
