Made in Britain 1982

Roth's character study is spot on. This film felt like a glimpse into a life. I grew up in the UK and certainly knew people like Trevor. I think today they'd be branded with a mental health tag. Interesting film

Feels more like watching a lecture at points, but it's a good character study regardless. The points are well argued, for my liking it could've been even longer and more thorough. It doesn't really resolve in the way you'd expect either, it's not another movie about a delinquent bettering his life. Tim Roth, in his acting debut here, immediately showed why he was an actor to keep your eye on for decades to come. It's his performance combined with the dialogue that are the selling point here, because some of the other acting isn't as strong. The lo-fi, rudimentary filmmaking style compliments the material really well, yet if often feels too basic (what can you do, it was made for tv in the early 80s). Overall, I'd recommend this to people who've already watched This Is England and are looking for more, because this is a nice companion piece.

6/10
