Good movie, not as good as the Ip man but still enjoyable. Mostly good fights and a solid story. A few cliches here and there.
As a standalone movie - yet still completely in the transition line as the Ip Man stories - I found this to be an exceptional movie. Max Zhang is VERY watchable in his role here (NOTE It's just a personal preference, but I highly recommend watching all these movies in their original Cantonese language, with English subtitles. The few minutes I tried watch the English overdubs, it was awful and completely took away from the story itself. You deserve to hear the actors' natural voices, inflections, etc.) and the story, although it has nothing to do with Ip Man, is a great martial-arts fighting movie. There were admittedly some scenes that were a bit over-the-top for my personal liking (thinking in particular of one scene where you could've mistaken Cheung Tin-Chi for The Amazing Spiderman LOL ) but overall, the fight scenes were well-done. This is not a Ip Man/Donnie Yen movie, so you have to approach this knowing that about it, but it only took a short while into it for me to be completely engrossed and by the end of it, I realized I had stumbled onto one of those rare gems that so often get skipped over because the poster art is heavily foreign, or it's a foreign-language film, or it's loaded with foreign actors' names that we don't recognize. For fans of martials arts movies, this one definitely deserves a look; I'm adding this one right along to the list of the other Ip Man movies that I've watched more than once, because I'll definitely want to watch this one again. Highly recommended!
Cheung Tin Chi, tries to live a quiet life, but they don't let him, the fights are fine, but he doesn't reach the level of Ip man
Extremely underrated addition to the IP Man series, in my opinion, this takes place after the events of Ip Man 3 and follows the character played by Zhang Jin (Cheung Tin-Chi) who was by far the best addition to the Ip Man series and he is excellent in this film which shows how the events of Ip Man 3 affected his character and also his son's life as well. The action is superb in this film with Michelle Yeoh (Sis Ha) bringing her a game showing that she can still kick as much ass as the rest of them.
Even Dave Bautista (Owen Davidson) is really good in this film as he is a character that you just can't trust even though you kinda want to because he seems like a nice guy on the outside. I will say that the film's marketing is mainly built up around Dave Bautista and Tony Jaa (Sadi the warrior) who are both not actually in the film as much as I would like to have hoped but when they are they are actually really good.
Might be my second favourite film in the series and I beg you to give it a watch because you won't be disappointed as the direction, action and story is super strong and fit into this series perfectly.
Good movie, I was hoping to see combo Zhang Jin/Tony Jaa against Dave Bautista or at least more of Tony Jaa nevertheless it was a good ride

This was a great spin-off of the Ip Man series. After Tin-Chi performed in Ip Man 3 I thought he was a great character and amazing martial artist so this spin-off film is very good. For the first 2/3 of the move you will see a lot of fighting and character development so that by the end of the film, Tin-Chi is someone you really admire. Also just look at the cast of the film! Tony Jaa has a fight scene with Zhang Jin, and also there is a scene with Zhang Jin vs Dave Bautista that rivals the scene between Donnie Yen and Mike Tyson in Ip Man 3. Michelle Yeoh has a really good fight scene and of course she's a good actor. Also the actress who plays Julia (Liu Yan) wow! she's really gorgeous in this movie. Anyway, bottom line is I think this is one of the best martial arts movies centering around the wing chun style.
