Heartbreaking and heartwarming. Emilia Clarke is pure sunshine.
I didn't have any expectations before watching this movie and I hadn't read the book(still haven't ,still not going to)and to me this was all very average.
This movie reminded me of two other movies. Those movies are both superior to this one,and it only reminds me of them because of the whole ''There's someone that has gone through some type of injury and they need an assistant to help them''thing. Those 2 movies are ''The Intouchables (2011)'' and a Swedish movies called ''Ego (2013)'' and both of them are really quite good.
Emilia Clarke did a great job and her character is very likable from the very start. Her smile is adorable and I think she's a really good actress in general.
In the very beginning I wasn't feeling Will and Lou's relationship at all and I was honestly shipping her more with Nathan.Of course she had a boyfriend that I wasn't really very fond of.Patrick was a bit annoying and when he gave Lou a necklace with HIS NAME on it I just kind of lost it...what is she?property? No thank you dude,I'll pass. The only time where I really felt for Patrick was when he found out about the trip ,the uh.."business trip" ,I completely understand why he got mad.
The biggest reason why I give this movie a 6 and not anything higher is because there's something missing.I can't quite put my finger on it but there's just something that just makes this movie kind of "meh" to me.I think it might be Sam Claflin,I don't think he's a bad actor but I don't think he fits the role very well.
I got kind of irritated at the fact that she was always saying both his first AND last name,it's so cringey ,but that's probably just me.
I'm glad he ended up dying,I know that sound horrible but if he would magically just get better and start walking again that would just be way too cliché and I'm so glad that didn't happen. Is a life with just a little joy and a great deal of pain really so much better than no life at all?maybe not,it really depends.
Just like a guy suddenly going blind,he knows what he lost and knowing what you can't have is certainly much worse than not having it in the first place. To live your life in a wheelchair when you know there's so much more out there is a major restraint and for some people it just isn't worth it.
Would I recommend it?not really.Watch it if you want to,maybe you'll love it or maybe you won't but those are my thoughts about it anyway,if that helps.
I was totally ready to get into this story and enjoy it. I'm afraid this movie is terrible. The first thing is Emilia Clarke which did a terrible terrible acting job. She always had the same smirk on her face in any situation, sad, happy, annoyed. The director did a terrible job of directing her. I also did not buy for a single second their supposed love story. The third act is not working at all. You don't understand her motivations, her feelings and it just didn't work. Very disappointing movie.
I might be the last person who watched this movie but wow! I cried for good reasons and bad ones, but the thing that makes think at the end that we probably should start to enjoy our life. Highly recommended.
I DO NOT Rate Romance Movie 5/5 But this Movie is Different I Love the Main Characters And how well developed they we're, I also Loved the Storyline The Back Story Was Great The Ending Was Great Very Emotional and Moving Ending I Felt every emotion Watching this Movie. absolutely Classic Film Imo
I didn't expect to be so moved by such a little movie, but with a captivating performance by Emilia Clarke, the witty laugh out loud funny writing, and a heartbreaking but not too clichéd ending, made this film a little overlooked gem.
Sam Claflin acquitted himself nicely, as did the entire supporting cast. Charles Dance and Janet McTeer as Will's parents, were a gelid and steely bonus no matter how secondary their characters were. I liked that they were never positioned in the story as obstacles to anything... Matthew Lewis (Harry Potter's Neville Longbottom) is again, chameleonic in the way he fits himself into characters, and Brendan Coyle (one of my favourites from Downton Abbey) were nicely cast.
However, it is truly Clarke and the screenplay that stand out here. I've never read the book, and probably never will, but I liked the story very much. I also like that it didn't play like a Hallmark movie, and the banter between Clarke and Claflin was well paced and they worked their chemistry very well, right up to the last letter in Paris.
This was a great little film... well worth the watch, just get some Kleenex.
Good story. Complicated feelings played out well. Didn't realize it was Neville Longbottom until like 3/4 through the movie . The ending made sense and within character but I still didn't like it.
promotes suicide do not watch!
I was watching with a stupid smile in my face the whole movie, I LOVE IT !
I would have done the same !
Emilia Clarke definitely makes this movie. Her quirkiness is infectious and makes the ending even more poignant. Assisted suicide is a tough subject and one that Canada will be facing more in the future I'm sure. In the end I don't think I could have been as brave as she was but I understand it.
It's the typical British romantic movie, with all of the clichés of the genre. And that's not a problem. It's a movie that definetely won't surprise anyone, there's no twist, no suspense, but there isn't supposed to be any of that. It's not groundbreaking, however, it's a well-made and emotional film starring a handsome guy and a pretty girl. Also, I would like to add that I find the latter incredibly annoying, but that's just a personal opinion. Good soundtrack, good cinematography, good acting with basic characters and a not-so-bad script makes this movie a forgettable but enjoyable date night movie.
This is an okay romantic movie. I felt like the characters, especially William deserved more depth to them. It was when they talked about Louisa's future and her hopes and dreams that their relationship became interesting to me. There were so many references to how much Will hated his life, and how he would scream when he was alone and yet we never really got to see that side of him, only the angry, pissed off at the world side whose transition into falling in love with Lou happened way too quickly in my opinion. Was also hoping for a happy ending but from all the things I didn't particularly love in this movie, the ending was the easiest one to accept.
7/10
I cannot explain just how much I love this movie, every single time it has me so invested in Louisa and Will's friendship and growing relationship that I am a sobbing mess by the end. Definitely one of my top ten movies of all time.
I don't want to have to be one of those people who says the book was better than the movie but whoops here I am saying it. They took the believability out from the movie, some important scenes, a great character (from the wedding) and all depth from Lou.
I liked this movie quite a lot. the ending was easy to see from a mile away but satisfying and nicely tied into a bow for the viewer. Emilia Clark gave a great performance. she's so beautiful. love her eyebrows in this movie. hilarious facial expressions. I wish I knew someone in real life that had such a bubbly, always happy personality like Emilia Clarks character. I find that very attractive. well worth the watch.
This film is horrible. Yes I rated 10 because I loved it.
Horrible in the way of how life is seen through the eyes of a person in a wheelchair. I understand why people in such situation would want to end their lives and I am so glad that they have allowed these people to end their lives. Unfortunately, very few are the countries allowing it.
Great love story But I think the heart of this film is that sometimes, you just can't force people not to end their lives no matter how good their life could be.
We make choices and Will made his choice. So have many other people and we have to respect that.
People think that "suicide" means cowardice. Well not to me. To me, it really takes a brave human being to decide that they want to put an end to their life because something went or is going wrong.
I sincerely respect these people.
4 thumbs up to this film. :-)
Another manic pixie dream girl.
I was waiting for this movie for quite sometime and I am happy to say that it did not disappoint. I did not read the book yet thank goodness so that will not be a comparison for now. I was completely embedded in the story. I cried a little it was so good. It was not a perfect 10 like The Notebook but it was very touching. I highly recommend it.
I'm not even Lou, but I'll be crying into my pillows every night... #ShiftvW8
As someone who read the book before I watched the film, I was really disappointed with the movie version. The film moves too quickly, it does not give the relationship time to develop between the characters. They also have changed Will's interests, in the book he is into classical music, in the film he is not (just one of many things.) The music choices on this film are awful as well. They acting is good, but I feel like this film had so much more potential. It's a watchable, enjoyable, film but nothing to rave about. If you haven't read the book I expect that you will love it. For those who have read the book don't watch it!
watches trailer squeals internally forever I can't wait for this movie it looks so good !!!!
The Good:
The Bad:
Verdict:
A faithful adaptation of a best-selling novel in all its warmth and fuzziness, but still just another rom-com for the masses.
It was a really good movie with lots of emotions, and I don't feel ashamed to admit that I was crying now and then. Don't want to spoil anything, but if you like a sad, happy and romantic movie, you should watch it :)
That was just.. just PERFECT! ♥
I just came home after seeing this movie, though I probably would have walked out of the theatre if it weren't for my mom wanting me to stick all the way to the end. I admit that I probably shouldn't have gone to see it in the first place because I knew from the premise alone I wouldn't enjoy it. Cliché galore. Uneven tone. Awful soundtrack. Irritating ending.
I bawled my eyes out. #ShiftvW8
Great movie! I actually cried
All 3 kissing scenes were so uwu.
wow such a nice movie.. acted so well and kind of bittersweet but the ending was perfect. just wow
All I do is CRY:sob::sob:
I’ve seen this movie 3 times and have only just made the connection that Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister are both in this
Didn't expect much - but the actors, the direction the movie took in the end... pretty captivating. Certainly a tearjerker.
I don’t get all the negative comments, I was in between laughter and tears and mental breakdowns throughout the whole movie. Me and my partner enjoyed it so much we are going to purchase it on DVD. Lou is exactly like me, a caring soul who loves with her whole heart and obviously clumsy and he’s smart and have good intuition just like my partner. This movie is amazing, if you loved the notebook you will love this too!♡
This movie makes me cry.
Wow, Neville Longbottom has come a long way :person_running_tone3: Hated the ending though :open_mouth::dash:
Oh my God! So cute, so inspiring, loved it.
I didn't like this one at all. It's so sad to see Emila Clark getting turned from powerful self-confident Dragon-Mother into a submissive, clumsy little girl just to be appealing for the audience, which still seems to like their women that way.
One rating point for that adorable grandpa.
The plot was a bit of a trite, predictable finale, but at least Emily really managed without dragons.
**It's a nice movie, in my case it reflects in part what my life is, I also have spinal damage, that if I'm not a millionaire, I do not live in a castle, I'm not handsome, my name is Felipe, I'm acondroplasic too, I'm 30 years old, I'm Santiago de Chile and never have I had something serious with someone codepen for most of the things of someone, in this case of my mother, I have to use Bipap to sleep, because I suffer from apnea, use urine collector to avoid the expense of diapers, I have to clean the ass every two days, I take many remedies, and good if you would like to be my friend in trakt follow me, a hug!
Ps. The idea of ending my daily suffering, both psychological and physical, has also come to my mind, so I am in favor of Euthanasia or suicide.**

Exclusive actress concert Emilie Clarke, beautiful Jenna Coleman and through the "doctrinal and predictable" script will end up crying at the end regardless of age. Maximum rating 10/10 - included in a personal film collection.

Exelentní herecký koncert Emilia Clarke, krásná Jenna Coleman a přes "tuctový a předvídatelný" scénář bude na konci brečet každý bez rozdílu věku. Maximální hodnocení 10/10 - zařazeno do osobní filmové sbírky.
I have seen a lot of movies from this kind of drama.Intouchables is the best one a must watch film!
What i liked about this movie was the perfect photography and so many beatiful places.Director did great job!
a contemporary interpretation of Beauty and the Beast.
I was surprised how bad Emilia Clarke's acting was in this movie – being a fan of her performance in GoT (which also made me laugh when Charles Dance appeared). The story was very moving and I regret not having read the book (yet?). Otherwise the film was well made and you could not expect more.
I wanted to like this film more. Sadly, the soap opera acting and dialogue undermine the film. The potential was there for something meaningful, instead it felt contrived. A shame, it does have its moments and its not a mess, just disappointing.
This movie broke my heart. Emilia Clarke was perfect in her role! I usually don't like sad romance movies but this one was perfect. All actors were perfect for their roles and movie kept me interested all way through. I'm glad that I watched this.
Sweet and bitter movie. Definitely I liked and worth to watch.
Just a bad copy of "Les intouchables" a french movie which is a lot better!
One of the greatest love stories of all time!
This has to be the saddest movie I've ever seen.
Think of any romantic movie in this planet. This is it with all the stereotypes. This time they did not make it, the guy kills himself. Better. That minute saves it from total disaster.
Come on, why every romantic movie have to be so typical, so predictable... This picture is made for women to feel they are in love for a few minutes, but as a movie it is terrible and the feelings are fake.
I don't recomment it to watch, the IMDb score is ridiculus.
I like a romcom once in a long while just to keep my sensitive side in check. I heard many talks about Me Before You so I decided to check it out. Initially, from the looks of the title and movie poster, I'm only interested in how the Mother of Dragons (from Game of Thrones) performs in a romantic film. Her character is really cute with a bubbly personality with unexpectable goofy but likeable facial expressions that I didn't know she was capable of (them eyebrows!). The story, however, is very typical for me though where one main lead is disabled or sick. It reminded me of a lot of Korean dramas and other romantic films such as the recent The Fault In Our Stars (2014) and especially a Korean film called ...ing (2003) which is about an illed girl whose appreciation has sharpened for each ordinary day that passes before you while there's a guy that tries everything he can to keep her happy. This kind of plot is typical for me because I see it as more of common sense, aplenty, but maybe it could impact other viewers who don't often see or feel this kind of subject. The choice of music for some parts is a bit "loud" and (UK-)pop style for my taste, but there was a moment that had class(ical).
Although I do like how the two main characters go for that slow kiss each time; pretty hot.
This movie didn't disappoint, however the ending was quite predictable, similar to the Notebook in some ways a sweet chick flick. Emilia Clarke send like the role was written for her since she for the character so well and especially with the same last name. Also, enjoyed seeing two of the UKs finest young female actors, Clarke and Jenny Coleman together -- arguably two of the hottest brunettes in film and TV today. Sam Claflin and Stephen Peacocke also have terrific performances. The locations were inspired and inspiring though wealth, Welsh castles and Parisian village really just embellished to the story.
it was good, until it wasn't
Whoa..... I wasn't emotionally prepared! Beautiful, tear-jerker... Emilia Clarke was sooo cute! It's funny that GoT's Tywin Lannister AND Harry Potter's Neville Longbottom were also in the film! I recommend, but have the tissues close by!
Wonderful movie, you must see, I love it!
I really liked everything about this movie, except Emilia's crying scenes, they just didn't look very natural, but maybe that's just me .. Also, it has a somewhat predictable storyline, but the humour and Emilia's overall acting made it very enjoyable. I hadn't looked at the cast list, and Charles Dance surprised me, he's so awesome. So yeah, recommended watch for sure!
Movie itself I would give an 8, but the soundtrack AND score where both way more than I would expect from such a movie, so I give it a 9.
Lately Sam Claflin has been tugging at my heartstrings with these romantic movies he's been releasing. A very sweet story, I even shed a tear in the end lol
Cuando vas al cine y hay mas mujeres que hombres contigo pasan estas vergas. Qchi
NICHOLAS SPARKS VIVES... Okay if that is what you are looking for
I gave this movie a 6-I wanted to give it more, but I found it a little 'brigette jonesy' sorry, and it was lacking um something?? Thanks. #ShiftvW8
I have not been able to watch it as yet. My box says that this is "unavailable."
This movie looked great when I watched the first trailer that was released. In fact, I spent the majority of the next couple of months talking about how excited I was for this movie. Don't get me wrong, it was good, and I don't want to be one of those people that end up comparing the book to the movie. But I can't. If you didn't read the book, this movie would be emotional and great, yet it paled in comparison to the fault in our stars. And that's saying a lot.
They cut out so many important scenes from the book that would've made this movie ten times more heartwrenching than it already is, like the maze scene and how Lou reacts after the trip and after telling Will something at the beach. The whole moving in with Patrick. So, so many things weren't included and were essential.
I'd give this movie a 6 star rating, because it had so much potential and could've been so much better. Sam was great, I love him but this role wasn't made for him. Emilia, on the other hand, rocked it. Not too shabby, but this movie definitely could've been extraordinary.

Well i have to say Clarke was absolutely amazing so sweet that she melt me down. Fantastic performances by both of them the movie won my heart with its story and broke me to pieces near the end.
