The Road to Civilisation is Not Always Civilised
Set in 1845, this drama follows a group of settlers as they embark on a punishing journey along the Oregon Trail. When their guide leads them astray, the expedition is forced to contend with the unforgiving conditions of the high plain desert.

This is a lethargic, unfinished, interminable snoozefest of a film, inexplicably filmed in a 4:3 aspect ratio.

On the plus side, you don't have to worry about 'Meeks's Cutoff' spoilers, because you can't spoil a film without a plot. In fact, the movie's poster (showing Williams' character aiming a flintlock rifle), literally depicts what little climax this film has.

Kelly Reichardt directed what I consider to be Michelle Williams' breakout role in 'Wendy and Lucy', which is worth checking out, but this near-silent western anaesthesia is a serious misstep. This is trying so hard to be avant garde that it almost sprains something.
