Minority Report was so goddamn cool. Absolutely incredible, perfect first hour and forty-seven minutes, followed by a still pretty good but not amazing last act. The concept itself, the themes it explored, the visual style, the camera movements, the opening sequence, the music, the in-universe technology, the twists and turns. It's just a great movie, one of the best sci-fi films I've ever seen.
A great concept that’s held back by its production choices.
It works as an unpredictable action thriller with a great hook, and there are some pretty good action sequences in there.
The characters are decent (though you’re only really invested in Tom Cruise) and it’s pretty well paced and tense.
But at the same time, it’s one of the worst looking films of this caliber. The bleached look is completely overdone, it looks like absolute shit. It’s not even a case of it having like an interesting dirty look (like some scenes in Lord of the Rings), it’s just ugly.
Moreover, the score doesn’t fit the tone of the film whatsoever.
The script relies too much on exposition (often repeating what has already been shown through dialogue) and the logic is very thin in places.
It’s funny to see how some of the technological predictions of this film have already become a reality, whereas others feel very much like predictions that were made in the year 2002.

Still a great film, fantastic work from Spielberg and definitely one of his best and super performance from Cruise.
Love the level of action and the effects and like the smart storyline and it’s ending was a great finish that was definitely well made.
Almost everything about "Minority Report" is first class. Cruise is great. The futuristic look is as amazing as any other film I've ever seen. The cars and the way they glide around the city is nothing short of awesome. The computers take center stage here and the way video files are transferred and stored on plates of glass is neat. The tech is gorgeous and Cruise reviewing evidence at Pre-Crime headquarters is like a conductor fronting a symphony.
Spielberg's direction is not as Spielberg-y as usual. I'm surprised by some of the violence and gore. Is this not one of the bloodiest Spielberg non-War movies ever? And the look of this is amazing. It's grainy to an extreme. It glows and blurs. I saw this when it was first released in theaters and revisiting it again now...at the moment I can't think of any other film that looks quite like it.
I came to like Colin Farrell's character Witwer during my latest watch. His transformation is satisfying and it's great to see him go toe-to-toe with Tom Cruise. Cruise is an amazing action movie actor. The guy is physical but not in the Schwarzenegger or Stallone sense. He's a little fellow but his awkward athleticism is always convincing. He seems just a little out of control, close to falling or slipping or losing a fight. His characters always have a lucky streak when getting into a tussle or a tight spot. Max von Sydow is also excellent, as usual. By the way, if eye trauma makes you squirm, avoid this movie.
There are a few drawbacks. I've always found the story hard to follow. I'd say that watching it this time made more sense than any time before. Director Burgess's (von Sydow) motivations stood out for me better than during any of my other viewings. And finally, I fully understand the role of the Ann Lively character. I also could do without some of the attempts at humor that Spielberg throws in. The jetpack chase is silly and falls flat. The scene with the "spiders" and the way they scan the eyes of two people having sex and a guy on the toilet...dumb.
Overall though, this is an excellent film. It looks totally unique and its vision of the future is one of the most amazing in all of cinema.

Minority Report presents us with sufficient world-building and rises important theme of predestination without feeling like it's being shoved down through our throat: the future of government surveillance everywhere, AI-driven cities, and implant-dependent urbanites. I think it does this well by utilizing them as a part of plot point and showing the grand scenery as a way to do exposition. The film is also able to make believable characters: cops aren't always action men--they're just people doing their job daily job--and villains are also human, who might make cruel, heartless decision, but has the motivation to stand on what they believe and, in the end, to survive.
The story manages to engage from the start through the end. A number of films tackle the story clumsily after the huge plot reveal, but Minority Report is able to continue on raising the issue of predestination without resorting to typical action cliche. The final scene is a bit shaky, but it does its job to convey the theme and maintain believable character very well.
However there are noticeable downside from the film. The soundtrack is what I felt the most: it sounds too adventure-ish in a couple of scenes--too Star Wars/Indiana Jones-esque. Not quite fitting with the tone of the film. The brief action scenes in the film, though necessary in the plot, also appear a bit clumsy and not very well done. As for the plot itself, there's a certain point in the film where it becomes very predictable, though it still delivers well.
It was a good movie but it doesn't really make sense that he is been looking for the pre-crime unity, and even though he can use his eye for enter into the facilities. With that technology I guess it would've easy just block his pass. A good movie though
This is such an embarrassingly awkward time in Hollywood during the aughts when the product placement was jammed in your face without any sense of shame. Still a good movie because of the source material.
Liked it more than i expected.Tense was everywhere since the first minute and i haven't seen such an upredictable movie in a while.Great plot blow mind and well made script and beautifully directed. 8.5/10
6.5/10 - Inspires some interesting thoughts and raises some important questions but ultimately I found it too dark and crazy. The best part where the many twists towards the end (varying between very surprising and not really unexpected).
Many of the Sci-Fi concepts don't make sense, e.g. I think that it is possible to predict the future (though we'll likely only be able to do it to a limited extend but predicting some murders seems possible - in fact we already managed to catch some terrorists before they could set off a bomb though good police investigation but in the future we could also use mass surveillance and artificial intelligence for that, not sure if we should though...) but I don't think that we'll be able to predict the future as portrayed in this movie (it just doesn't make much/any sense and if it would be possible that way this would have much bigger consequences and fundamentally change our understanding of the world). Anyway, often it isn't even that the technology doesn't seem possible but rather that it seems illogical to invent it in that way / prefer it over more suitable alternatives. The plot also felt pretty "stupid" at times (e.g. when they where hunting John but his access still wasn't revoked and didn't even trigger any alarm - and this is just one example of many).
It feels like this could've been pretty great but at least for me it was just ok/watchable (I don't regret watching it but overall I didn't really enjoy it either).
This is great sci-fi. Cool gadgets and an interesting concept make this a worth a watch. Tom Cruise is doing his thing and Spielberg is great. The ending is a little weak but that doesn't take away from the cool story.
There were too many errors in the movies that prevented it from being a great or even remotely credible movie. Still, it never gets boring and Tom Cruise is a gifted actor.

I thought it was a pretty good, albeit somewhat lateral adaptation right up until the 1 hour 47 minute mark. At that point I wished they had just stuck to the original PKD story.
Amazing movie!!! It had everything . Action , Drama & Emotion. Tom Cruise's best acting so far.

Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell are great and the premise is fun. I need to know what really happened to Sean though. So many twists and turns that I ended up not realizing what happened to him. Also I hope society never comes to this.

That right there is a father's rage that sent chills down my spine.
With a character like this, Tom Cruise and the writers could have easily done the stoic, grey t-shirt, "I lOvE MY FamIly" action hero. But instead, they did something better, which is giving him humility and raw emotion.
Cruise didn't need to go this hard, but he did and I love him for it.
There's some great camerawork to complement the scenes. Also, Max von Sydow and Samantha Morton were both brilliant.

Second time to watch it but I didn't remember ANYTHING about it. Better than I remembered. People complain about the plausability of the movie but come on, people...it's a MOVIE, for crying out loud. If you want reality, go watch the Discovery Channel or check out a biography at your library. Disengage your brain for awhile and enjoy this one. I'm not really into 2-hour PLUS length movies, but this one was interesting enough that it kept me watching. (Moment of truth: I paused it about halfway through to go take a nap but that's only because it was a Saturday afternoon and I had just finished lunch. And I'm old.) Sure, there are some "plausability" issues, but it's a futuristic movie and of course there are going to be some "not quite believable" moments. As a story, though, and a film, I felt like it was highly enjoyable and well worth watching. Not a big Tom Cruise fan (I've stated that in other reviews) but I thought he did well here. It was also interesting to see Steve Harris (from The Practice) in here along with several other memorable names. Some have voiced a distaste for the way the movie ended; personally speaking, I loved that it kept me guessing and I never saw it coming. Several times I was ready to think "I didn't expect it to end like that!" and then bam!...another twist that kept me wondering which way this would go. Definitely recommend this but be advised: this is the movie equivalent of jazz music; there are no straight 1,4,5 lines (if you're a musician, you'll get that reference) and the unexpected and sometimes jarring scenes all come together to present what I felt was a great piece of work. It was a long movie, but I'm glad I watched it all over again. As a side note: I would love to vacation wherever that final scene was shot!
Unique, creative and thrilling film, with a great setting and an engaging, thought-proviking story.
The movie was splendid.. the storytelling and the camera work were amazing.. the futuristic sci-fi environment, acting and the presence of humor in some scenes make this a very enjoyable flick.. Spielberg really is an amazing director..

A very good action and sci-fi futuristic flick; the direction is great and Tom Cruise definitely knows what he's doing. However, there are times when it gets predictable (the Agatha storyline I guessed from the get go), the soundtrack occasionally sounds comedic where it shouldn't and I was disappointed with the weak ending.
Futuristic, cool and fast-pacing action flick with the typical weak ending of a Steven Spielberg movie: way too soon one can guess that Lamar was the one killing Anne Lively.
But otherwise it's a great action flick that does NOT feature special effects that look silly only a few years the movie's release.
