Missing Link 2019

Um... Two words: What chicken ?!!

Laika will stay in business forever. You may ask, how? They currently employ over 300 employees at their main location and each of their films consistently underperforms, the last two straight up bombing. May I inform you the president also owns Nike. He's worth 35 billion dollars. To his son, Travis Knight, who just did Bumblebee, this is pocket money for them. I can see the conversations now.

Phil Knight: Alright son, what do you want?
Travis Knight: Hey dad, I just want to make another movie with those dolls. You think you can spare some money?
Phil Knight: No problem my child. How much?
Travis Knight: The usual, 60 million.
Phil Knight: Why, go right ahead, you little wiper snapper! Just bring some of it back.
Travis Knight: Thanks daddy! I'll fund the next one with my Bumblebee money!

As for the movie itself? No idea, didn't see it, no one did.

Didn't find enjoyment with this, personally.

I found things a bit off with 'Missing Link', none of it really clicked for me - it's without a little added oomph. I was watching it unfold, as opposed to feeling invested in it. The plot is fine, just a bit bland. I found the dialogue decent, particularly with Link's schtick - though that wore off eventually.

A lot of what I just mentioned probably comes down to the casting, which is meh to me. Zach Galifianakis, Hugh Jackman and Zoe Saldana are all very good actors, but none of them stood out - Galifianakis, especially, feels flat. The supports don't impress either, despite some decent names.

From 'Kubo and the Two Strings', my favourite Laika production, to this - my least favourite entry from the studio. They are, however, still yet to produce a film I dislike - so that's a plus.

Great animation, great cast, great sets, and a great story - so I'm not sure why I found this underwhelming.

I think it was missing something, maybe a little more run time, definitely left me short but other than that it’s animated style was good, it’s story had a good heart, it’s voice cast we’re great and it’s journey had a good sense of humour.

A great Laika project that shows how much the company has evolved in terms of technical prowess for stop motion cinema. The story was a great adventure akin to Indiana Jones and took viewers to many different locals each more intriguing than the other. The trailer honestly made the movie look uninteresting which it really was not. Laika need to market this like they did Box Trolls with trailers showing the handmade puppets being shaped into motion.

I would describe "Missing Link" as a fairly generic animated film. The story is forgettable, the stop-motion animation style is not bad but also a bit boring, and the humor is simply not funny. For an adventure movie, there is also shockingly little excitement. Only the voice cast is really strong. I think the movie is appealing to a somewhat younger audience at most, but there are so many much better works in the genre that I don't quite know why you should choose this movie.

They said "Fortnite" and "Among Us" and that alone took away 4 points.

I don't know why, but the entire movie I thought I was watching the cartoon version of the "Around the world in 80 days" with Jackie Chan. Really strange.

I had pretty low hopes for this one but I ended up liking it a lot. Quite a few funny moments.
It was cute.

Not my favourite film from Laika - Kubo and the Two Strings will probably always hold that crown - but this is still a pretty good film, with some great animation and a few comical moments.

"A visual treat with lots of humor, plenty of heart, and even a little food for thought."

It's the most beautiful Laika film yet... but also the most boring.

Beautiful animation, claymation, and yet another excellently well done notch in the Laika filmography. The tale of helping others, though different from us, and what we come from and how the world (even today) still dont accept evolution for what it is. Wanting to be wanted in all the wrong places. Great subtle and not so subtle humor.

We pirates watched this movie the same day as john wick 3, and the horse back kick is found in both.

A nice little movie. The story is decent and means well. Susan is a fun character. The animation is pretty and there were a few funny bits.

Typical Laika Studio movie. I personally am not big fan of their graphics. This movie doesn't stand out with anything, and it is certainly not going to be a hit movie. I suggest you wait for it to be released on DVD. There is really no reason why you'd want to see it on the big screen. The story is OK. The whole movie is just OK, maybe even a little bit boring, too. I didn't like how it seemed a little bit dark for children at the very beginning. It is children's movie after all! During the very first scene a character was eaten by something like a loch ness monster (but saved) , then he was impaled in the head and collapsed and looked dead. It was supposed to be funny but nobody laughed, esp. children and the theater was full with young children. It turned out he wasn't really dead after all but I didn't think this was quite a good beginning.
I did like how Hugh Jackman's character had some of his features though.
