i really liked it, it's creative and it tackles an important issue in a funny and entertaining way... Great movie
Definitely was not an original story. In fact, I'm fairly certain this story was on Law and Order about 10'years ago. And Flashpoint. And and and .... It seems like there's a bit too much star power for such a meh premise. That said it was okay. Not bad. Not great.
I liked it and I don´t think it´s an unbelievable script. On the contrary I wonder why a thing like this hasn´t occurred already. Maybe the movie does exaggerate a bit, that is what movies do. But in general it paints a picture of how the money-world works and how, frightingly, in the end nobody really cares.
Money Monster is a news show about the Wall Street numbers, one day Lee Gates (the presentator) keeps talking about IBIS bank and how great an investment is to put your money there. A short period after that show IBIS loses a large amount of money. One day a man who invested almost all his money in the IBIS bank (Kyle Budwell) takes the whole Money Monster crew hostage to get answers about the certain "glitch".
First things first, I really enjoyed the acting in this movie. The characters were all very convincing and their own persons, so that was really great. I enjoyed the story as well, although it was a bit long which brought some unnecessary parts.
Julia Roberts did a great job as Patty Fenn who is the director of the Money Monster show and really is just a very responsible, calm and smart woman. If it wasn’t for her I think a lot who have gone wrong once the hostage situation started. George Clooney who plays Lee Gates (the presentator of the show) was a very interesting character throughout the whole movie. He was the perfect show host and Wall Street guy combined, but in the ending he showed a very caring side which made him a more sort of true person, which I really enjoyed. Kyle Budwell was played by Jack O’Connell, an actor I personally really like seeing in movies. He really showed all Kyle his emotions, regrets and thoughts throughout everything. There were a lot of emotions involved with this character and Jack did really great. I also want to take my time to tell how much I enjoyed Lenny Venito his character Lenny and Emily Meade her character Molly (she had a very small part, but it was a very good part). And of course Caitriona Balfe as Diane Lester. I only know her as Claire in the Outlander series, so it was refreshing to see her in something like this.
I enjoyed the movie, and would recommend it to people who like these sort of movies. It was a bit lengthy but it’s worth the watch. I had a hardtime choosing between 6 or 7 stars but I chose 6, I did enjoy it and it did keep me interested once the action started.
(this was the first time i had a hard time writing a review without spoilers, wow, haha)
Fairly enjoyable but the script needed work to make it a better movie.
The story is about a Wall Street guru who talks about his stock market predictions. So far so good, however, in my opinion, the climax of the movie comes too soon. We are put in tension very soon and it is impossible to keep us in that state throughout the film. Because of this, much of the film consists of a tedious back-and-forth between Lee Gates and Kyle Budwell. It was obvious that George Clooney's character was not going to die. On the other hand, without being a bomb expert myself, it seems to me that a frequency jammer could disable the bomb and end the film after ten minutes.
Oh, and apart from this, at the end, when they start interrogating Walty Camby, the IBIS director, you can see several continuity errors in Kyle's gun.
The promise of this movie is a classic hostage thriller, and I think it delivers. It actually doesn't feel like a 2016 movie I think, I don't mean this in a bad way, but it just feels like a classic 90s or 00s thriller movie (prob more in the good way)
It is directed by Jodie Foster, who played in movies like Panic Room.
While is not acting in this movie, I think the overall feeling is pretty similar.
There might be some small logical holes, but overall, I pretty much enjoyed this.
Rating: 8/10
It's okay. It's average on all fronts. Plot (predictable), script (adequate), direction (fine), pacing (not too fussy).
We have a basic plot designed to draw hatred to a financial system not designed for their everyday activity. But not quite the news personalities that ask normal people to 1) invest in single stocks and 2) churn those investments faster than chips at a casino.
It's heavy handed in a silly way. The plot is extremely transparent. A little Stockholm Syndrome and all the "good guys" live.
It could have been something more than just a TV movie quality exercise.
6.5/10
Nothing money wise, needed working on It's price a little more but over all It wasn't a bad film with a good performance from (Jack O Connell)
I didn't expect this movie to be this good. The story is really captivating and it's surprising from scene to scene – especially the end is really unexpected to be honest. Sad thing is, that with some scenes they actually captured the sad reality too well…
Jodie Foster directs this drama about a cable TV money show whose host (George Clooney) is taken hostage live on air. The world watches as the situation unfolds.
The story kicks off when a financial firm, IBIS loses $800m on the stock market due to a computer glitch. A man gets a gun and a bomb, walks onto a live TV set and demands answers, because he lost all his money.
This all happens in the first 15 minutes, so how does one go about making it last another hour and a half? The answer is, ‘with difficulty’. There are attempts to inject some back story into the hostage taker (Jack O’Connell) and make us understand what it truly means to be working class in New York. These backfire, making us even less sympathetic to his cause while telegraphing the rest of the plot for us, almost by mistake. I guarantee you will audibly sigh as your deepest fears about where the plot is going are confirmed.
Just take everything you know about the real world and put it to one side because even The Lego Batman Movie required you to suspend your disbelief less than this. The two actually share a common trait - all the characters are plastic. Between Clooney’s TV host, Jack O’Connell’s ‘angry working class’ hostage taker, Julia Roberts as the director whispering in George’s ear & Dominic West as the evil CEO, not one character seems anything more than two dimensional.
Pair the insane liberal wet dream of a plot with some cringe worthy attempts at satire and you’ve pretty much got the measure of Money Monster. Good as light entertainment, but overall a surprisingly stupid film.

Greed, egotistic and a voice for the small people. I enjoyed the movie, held me interested until the end but how realistic is the movie - not very. Good entertainment for 90 minutes or so.
The lust and greed for money can be a very bad thing – a fact that’s been proven in different articles, tv show episodes, books, and movies involving Ebeneezer Scrooge. However, no matter how bad it can be, it’s a necessity we all have, a god we all must not only praise…but obey. In all honesty, I wish it weren’t that way. Back in my high school days, I wrote an essay about what I’d consider a “perfect world” and my “perfect world” wasn’t constrained with any element of money. People were taken care of, housed, fed, educated – and no one had to suffer on the streets. The spirit behind the essay may have been a little too hippie for most people…but it’s still a way of life I think we could benefit from. Money Monster is just another movie that exposes how important money is to the wrong set of people, and how much the little man doesn’t matter.
This film sometimes confuses me. I like it, but at the same time, bits and pieces prove to be boring for me. The concept itself, if I were to compare to anything else would no doubt be a serious version of Fun with Dick and Jane. Both have a similar problem in stocks mysteriously crashing like Enron. Here’s what I mostly feel – the beginning of this movie is sharp and intense. I didn’t know what would happen next, and I loved how they were handling the situation…it felt like a unique mystery. The rest of the movie after the halfway point felt vexing and loses that initial traction it began with. There are parts of this film that feels amazingly realistic and relatable, and then it takes it too far.
George Clooney seems to be based off real-life money and stocks expert Jim Cramer of Mad Money – whose been featured in other films, like Fun with Dick and Jane. Had I never seen him in another movie, I wouldn’t have been able to make the distinction and found this TV show to be strange. I’m glad I noticed it, but I doubt many others will, and in terms of generality – I find Money Monster to be slightly too high brow for the general audience, making it boring where it shouldn’t be. Personally, I’m not someone that cares too much for the stock market, which is why I sometimes find it difficult to watch movies based off of that (I have yet to see Wolf of Wall Street). I am assuming I’m not the only one with that distaste. That being said, I did mostly enjoy this one.
The characters make Money Monster interesting, if not exciting. Understanding what they are talking about throughout the movie no doubt helps you enjoy it, but it’s not necessary. If you have the time, check out this film.
This movie is my perfect score of 7: it's somewhat entertaining so I don't regret watching it, but this review is the last time I will indulge in the movie and defiantly would not watch it again.
It does not offer any memorable nothing: the acting, directing, camera work is fine. The story is OK (many holes but whatever) and doesn't bite into anything. Not painful though, just somewhat entertaining.
You can put this movie on your list, but play it on some LaZy weekday evening but don't reserve your prime time slot for this.
Just for reference: my genre's 10 and 9 are The Big Short and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Enjoy.
Money makes you a bad person.
I thought that this will be boring but i was mistaken. Nice tense action movie with a few twists and laughs. It didn't drag out much.
Computers don't make mistakes, people do! :-)
Great movie ^_^
I really want to see this!!

Not a single person in this movie behaved like a person would if such thing happened in real life.
