Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris 2022

A fairy tale about the visibility of the middle classes and the superficiality of icons (Christian Dior's elegance hides a deep crisis, romantic Paris is surrounded by garbage...). The pursuit of dreams is the leitmotif of a story with stereotyped characters who know how to twist the cliché (Isabelle Huppert, Lambert Wilson...), more inspiring in its superfluous development than other more ambitious films.

Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris is one of those movies that grandam watches, and after the film is over, she will say something like, “Oh, that was lovely, wasn’t it?” Either way, it’s sweet.

Classic channel-surfing TV film, the classic pleasant comedy of little depth that you would leave on the telescreen during an old-fashioned zapping session.

This could have been a little sharper in its dissection of the class system but its still an enjoyable film.

This was a pretty delightful film. It was like if you crossed Paddington with Phantom Thread

It’s always a crap shoot when you watch a remake of a favourite and this one just didn’t reach the bar. It read like a jaded fairytale not the romance of a hardworking woman who defies the limits of her life to earn respect and a wish fulfillment. In the effort to appear a social commentary it threw in a garbage strike in beautiful Paris and socioeconomic rhetoric that has no context or value to the story or the pace. What it scrimped on was character development. None of the characters won me over despite some good casting choices. I give this film a 5 (meh) out of 10. [Dramedy]

A cute sensible film about a low class old widow who chases a dream of purchasing a high end dress. Seems bland the plot, but this a good story about the truth and deep meaning behind something that is simple on the cover. The plot development is good but a bit sloppy as it makes the audience think "that's it," but thats the point. The characters and attention to their detail makes the audience feel close to them. Overall this wasn't really my speed but its a well made film.

It's a fun adorable movie. There are solid themes and motifs surrounding a story that admittedly isn't all too fresh.

But the right packaging can make sunday dinner taste like a one star meal. This isn't the great movie of all time or even really award worthy. But it is effective without being preachy. Enjoyable without being overly saccharine.

If you've always wanted to watch a two-hour Dior commercial, you'll find it in "Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris". In the end, however, I didn't mind it all that much. Lesley Manville as the lead is too likeable for that. And the rest of the cast does a good job, too. There are not many rough edges in the film; as I said, it feels like a commercial. But since it is quite entertaining and heartwarming, you can definitely enjoy the movie. Whether you come out of it with a good feeling at the end certainly depends primarily on your own expectations. For my part, I was moderately satisfied.
