The most frustrating thing about this movie is it left me wanting more. I wish viewers were told the backstory between R and Ria's relationship, or at least shown more moments between them. (Showing us more backstory of the friendship between Noma and R plus Cyon's backstory would have been interesting too. But perhaps I just wish there was a novel written for this movie that would explore this world more!) Visually it is stunning. The futuristic scenery is blended with realistic environments with minimal CGI, just enough to make it a perfect balance without being over-the-top. I love the dark and dreary world this film encompasses. I think R is relatable to anyone who has felt a long period of loneliness in their life, which makes the film all the more beautiful in my eyes.
