New Nightmare 1994

What an interesting way to make a franchise feel fresh. Becoming self aware and fighting a real, much more scary, Freddy Krueger. Heather Langenkamp and the cast of the original movie coming back to play themselves was fun to see, even Wes Craven making an appearance while directing. This is the best film in the franchise since 3 and a smart way to make a tired and repetitive franchise feel new.

Way too few 'scary' moments to consider this a horror. None of the Nightmare movies are good, that's the charm of the franchise but this was a pain to sit through. And how is it possible Freddy looks worse than the first movie? He looks like one of them fake knock off masks in this. The kid was pretty good though. And I liked Julie.

"Meet your maker."

Wes Craven revives his own creation! Trying to remember if this is the first horror meta film where they mix up “reality” and the movie. It was a good bump in quality compared to the last few Nightmare movies and am happy it ends on that note.

I’ve got to say I had some expectations for this film but I didn’t particularly liked it too much.

I enjoyed what the filmmakers tried to do by injecting some great new ideas but I believe they could’ve done a much better job. Making Freddy coming to reality to attack the actors in his movies is awesome. This movie has an interesting plot and invigorating ideas to make it fresh, I just don’t think they reach their full potential.

It’s fun watching Heather interacting with Robert Englund, Robert Shaye and some other actors. The plot doesn’t make much sense and I thought the pace was kinda slow and somewhat boring. It feels a bit dragged on.

The deaths are ok. Sort of cool Freddy’s new look and some added background.

What I found it most interesting about this one is that it’s the beginning of some experimentations Wes Craven would soon improve and make Scream. The self awareness of the movie and the telephone calls.

It’s not a bad movie, I just expected more. It is definitely the third best movie in the franchise.

Less comedic than the sequels, but doesn't quite have the same darkness that the first one did.

Wes Craven brings back the horror and terror to the Nightmare on Elm Street series in Wes Craven’s New Nightmare. As the tenth anniversary of the A Nightmare on Elm Street film approaches, an ancient evil takes on the persona of Freddy Krueger and proceeds to prey upon actress Heather Langenkamp. The meta nature of the film is fascinating, and weaves together fiction and reality in interesting ways. Yet as intriguing as the concept is, the film doesn’t quite pull it off. But the story’s compelling, and has an ominous tone to it that adds an intensity to the scenes. Though it falls short in a few areas, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare is a smart and ambitious film that services as a fitting coda to the Nightmare on Elm Street series.

This was probably the worst of the entire franchise, for me. Making it self-aware took away all the fun and laughter that could be had that the earlier ones had. The only sustained dream scene where any creativity could be had was the last 15 minutes or so in a 2 hour movie and it was dull.

10 years after the release of the original film, Wes Craven returns as the director of a Freddy film with Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Where the makers of Freddy find themselves in danger. Especially the star of the original film Heather Langencamp and her son.
The film is creative and cool. If this was a new demon that took on the Freddy persona, then one character shouldn't have died the same exact way Nancy's friend Tina in the first film though. That lacked originality too. The remake also doing that scene all over again was even worse though.

I really wanted to like this movie as I love me some metanarratives and fourth wall breaking, but, unfortunately, I don't. It starts off strong and from the mark of 30 minutes on it gets confusing and convoluted, characters act dumb, and Nancy screaming "DANNY DANNY DANNY" and Danny replying with "MOMMY MOMMY MOMMY" for what it seemed like a million times quickly becomes VERY annoying.

Freddy goes meta!

The draft version of Scream? The first indication being the "alone in a house with a stranger calling" scene playing out just like a Scream movie at the beginning. Then we get a bunch of meta stuff and it starts to resemble Scream 3 with the Stab stuff in Hollywood. It doesn't commit to the metaness enough though, even abandons it at times and ends up feeling half-baked. I do appreciate the different approach from the other movies in the franchise, it's just bad execution.

If you stop comparing it to Scream it's still an incredibly generic horror movie. Filled with horror clichés that are used in the most obvious ways. Horrible design for Freddy, his face looks like The Creeper (Jeepers Creepers). There's one scene I really liked and it's the cemetary one. Terrible third act. A similar third act that worked wonderfully is Child's Play 2. This one was absolute crap!
