It doesn't matter how many times I watch this film, I still laugh every single time. Stupid spoof films are my jam.
"This is not a cheer-ocracy, I am the cheer-tator, I will make the cheer-isions around here, and I will deal with the cheer-onsequences."
Dammit, I should've watched this 20 years ago. This will come off as hypocritical because I enjoy the original American Pie movies and the Scary Movies, but this got 1-2 laughs out of me.
I felt so bad for Janey when that bitch "accidentally" spilled a whole bottle of water on her red dress at the pool. LMAO
I understand that this is a spoof movie but it was bad. No laughs, no good gags and horrible toilet trashy humor
"You have her eyes."
I'm so happy that at least a few jokes landed for me. As the movie went on it got more enjoyable for me but damn it's just how I remember those parody movies from the 2000s. I think I saw this one once a long time ago because I remember Chris Evans with a banana up his arse. I think I bought into the parody movie hype back in the day because I always really enjoyed Scary Movie (haven't seen that one in ages, hope that one holds up). The soundtrack brought back memories, the American Pie spoofs were alright (love those films), loved the ending at the airport, loved the name of the high school (John Hughes), the "you have her eyes" line totally cracked me up. Mr. T showing up was the best and the announcer at the Football game did a great job!
Anyway, Chris Evans really earned his stripes with this one.
Was unfortunately relegated to the "shitty parody movies of the 2000s" category when it is actually so much more funny than any of the other "Movie Movies" that came after.. Some of the jokes remind me of early Leslie Nielsen gags when he made the switch to comedy, like:
"Who are you and how did you get in here?"
"I'm a locksmith, and I'm a locksmith."
Also, I need to applaud Sam Huntington's Oz from American Pie impersonation, because it was spot on.
Maybe it's just because I was in my teens when the American pie style movies were huge. or maybe it's just one of the last good spoof movies... I don't know, but I still think this is funny as hell! There's just something special about seeing captain America with a banana up his ass.
I have seen this movie way too many times. I can confidently say it would not be socially acceptable in today's culture, but it is hilarious from start to finish! The cast is surprisingly great for a spoof film and there is so much care in the small details!
Rating: 4.5/5 - 9/10 - Highly Recommend
I don't understand why the ratings for this are so low across the board. The satire is extremely well observed, and the application of parody nearly flawless. The only place NATM really lost me was at the idea that "Janey isn't attractive with her ponytail and glasses". Honestly, her normal self is much cuter than "the new and improved Janey Briggs" who goes to the party and the prom.
Well, OK, I also see where some other commenters are coming from about "toilet humor" and such; some very over-the-top gags did temper my overall rating a little. (For example: The peeping toms falling through the floor along with the girl they were spying on was hilarious; the toilet spraying an absolute crap-ton of excrement at them afterward was unnecessary.) But those were such small parts of an otherwise superbly executed film that it doesn't seem fair to tank its rating because of them.
Including background and bit parts, there are tons of connections to (sometimes future) teen sitcoms, movies, and other media: Even Stevens' Coach Tugnut as the football announcer; How I Met Your Mother's Ted Mosby as the guy who introduces us to the school; The A-Team's Mr. T as… well, best not spoil that one. There are so many actor connections, tiny prop/costume details, musical references, and miscellaneous touches included, it's impossible for me to list them all. I could rewatch the film five times, taking meticulous notes each time, and still miss half of them.
Clearly I'm not alone in thinking this was a hilarious movie. Based on reading other people's reviews, I guess it's just one of those things you either love or hate, and I'm in the camp that loved it.
Back in the days, where Alex Danvers was hot.
It's a superb mind blowing comedy...
♫ Janie's got a gun... ♫
It's a funny movie all the way through but that part really cracks me up each time.

Hysterically funny, Not Another Teen Movie is a brilliant sendup of the teen genre. Parodying She’s All That, American Pie, Cruel Intentions, Jawbreaker, Pretty in Pink, Bring It On, and many, many others, the film does a great job at covering the major hits of the ‘80s and ‘90s. And the satire is incredibly well-done, and uses the clichés and stereotypes of the genre in fun, clever ways. Starring Chyler Leigh, Chris Evans, Jaime Pressly, Mia Kirshner, Lacey Chabert, and Eric Christian Olsen, the casting is especially good, and they do an excellent job at playing to the character archetypes of teen films. Yet while the comedy’s broad enough to work for a general audience, to really appreciate Not Another Teen Movie and what it’s doing you have to know the material it’s spoofing.
