Not the best/original movie but it's a good looking scifi
I liked it. :)
But i thought it seemed a lil bit with Matrix...
Thought-provoking sci-fi. I try not to compare movies, even if there are similarities. Unless it's a total rip-off, I judge them as individual pieces of work.
And this one shines. I left the theater not knowing what to think, and that's a feeling I rarely get, but always ends well for the movie.
Star Wars + Portal + Dead Space + Total Recall
Plot wasn't sophisticated, probably described as feel good, but frankly, it was perfect. I left a 2 hour film and wasn't bored for a second.
Awesome Pictures
Good but confusing Story
I avoided this movie for quite some time, mainly because I’m not a big fan of Tom Cruise (I resent his support for Scientology), but the movie is worthwhile. There are some loose ends in the story, but it is overall convincing. The turn-around in the story line is credible (and good!). Andrea Riseborough’s acting is so good that it gives you a foreboding feeling from the beginning, even if her text is perfectly neutral. I liked that a lot! And there are more surprises in the story. The ending is not totally convincing, but can be forgiven. Landscape views and soundtrack are very impressive. It’s definitely a big-screen movie!
This was an interesting and good movie, but it could have been a masterpiece.
The thing that kept it from becoming that was mainly the story line and build up.
The biggest plot twist (and imho the biggest climax of the movie) happens way too early, and it makes the endgame feel like an outro rather than the moment you have been waiting for the whole movie.
From the moment the big plot twist is revealed, the movie gets very predictable.
The acting, setting, visuals, potential, music are all pretty much top notch, but in the end it was the writing that will probably put this movie in 'Oblivion' itself.
Unexpected, but too little about the other humans and too much about Jack. It could have been a lot cooler with civilization and the struggle of humanity after the apocalypse.
well, when comparing to the most of is genre, i would say its the best in years =)
So boring I didn't remember that I had already watched it until I looked it up here and saw my rating.
An engrossing film, with a well-developed post-apocalyptic premise, along with an unpredictable plot, visually stunning cinematography, paired with thrilling action sequences and great performances, although the plot got a bit convoluted at times and there were some plot holes.
"Oblivion" looks stunning and I was infatuated with the devastated Earth, the futuristic "home in the clouds" and the imaginative technology. The story of a war with an alien race that forced the remaining survivors of the planet to flee to Saturn's moon Titan, it fired my imagination as all good Science Fiction will do.
The film features quite a bit of action mixed in with its amazing visuals, but as things move along, it gets a little less intriguing and a lot more borrowed from other films in the genre.
What really knocked "Oblivion" down a couple of notches for me was the frustrating ending. Why, oh why must Hollywood tack on sugary sweet happy endings!?!?! Without spoiling anything...wasn't what Jack (Tom Cruise) did for the world enough!?! It meant something!
Tom Cruise plays the last man on Earth, a high-tech janitor of sorts who's left to mind the planet's robotic chaperones while the rest of the species lives it up on one of Saturn's moons.
It's slow, predictable and riddled with holes, but the production's array of slick, attractive future tech and constant visual revelations make for excellent diversions. Cruise's sleekly designed equipment is a real science fiction goldmine, visionary in the same sense as Minority Report's giant touch-screen UIs, and the first hour is an outstanding lesson in world-building. The plot eventually falls into too many Cruise / mainstream Hollywood pitfalls, though, and borrows too liberally from other films. Duncan Jones's excellent Moon, in particular, is robbed of all but its subtlety, performances and locale. Still, such faults are hardly surprising by this point and if you were anticipating something more... well, maybe an adjustment in expectations is in order. Perfectly acceptable as a conceptual exercise, but make sure you swallow that grain of salt before viewing.
10/10 for the DTS-HD Audio, sounds great,
movie is ok
MUSIC! Incredible. The entire implementation excellent. But the scenario is a little wobbly foundations, the tip can save it, but it had to be a typical Hollywood ending.
It's kind of curious that most seem to miss out on the finest aspect of the movie; I think, therefor I am. This is one of the best depictions of humanity I have seen in a long while, and perfectly presents the life-death cycle. At least if you are able to think some for yourself..
I liked very much, story and effects.
What's not to love about Tom Cruise in a post apocalypse with armed drones and things runnin around
Tom Cruise always having problems with his wife Julia smh
Oblivion (Around 2012?)
This caught my eye mostly because of Morgan Freeman in it.
In a post-apocalyptic world after a war with alien invaders, the Earth's moon has been destroyed in the process, and the Earth itself contaminated. Civiliation fled to Saturn's moon Titan, and resources are taken from Earth to uphold this last shelter of humanity.
Jack and his partner are placed on a mission on a tech-tower on Earth, having to constantly repair and protect super-armed drones which guards these resource sites while down there, the invaders named Scavengers (Scavs) are still around and pose a threat to humanity's last shelter.
They are not supposed to have memories prior to their mission, but Jack is haunted by dreams.
Both the initial situation of this as well as Morgan Freeman in this led me instantly believe there must be a major plot twist going on.
Rating: 9/10, watch this shit.
How come nobody pointed out that it's basically The Matrix trilogy crammed into one film?
The many iterations of "The One", the underground resistance, the "Sentinels", the Machines exploiting humans and the planet for energy, the final encounter of The One with the central AI and his subsequent sacrifice. It's almost beat for beat. And Kosinski wrote the graphic novel in 2005, while The Matrix: Revolutions came out in 2003.
It's a pity the story was so unoriginal, because the VFX and the production design were outstanding.
Great movie from what I can remember
Stunning visual effects, bad movie
I give this a 7/10 for the awesome idea... movie was pretty bleh, but the premise was something that kept things very interesting.
It was Awesome, the scenes, music, story idea, visual effects, all and all.... made me WOW!!
Went in expecting nothing. I actually avoided the trailer and most of the hype because 1) Tom Cruise usually isn't that great and 2) it has nothing to do with the game of the same name. So I completely dismissed it. I'm glad I missed the spoilers as they seem to have spoiled a lot of reviewers. Lots of eye candy in the visuals, and a pretty good story. I suppose it did remind me of other films, but mostly I enjoyed it. Solid movie.
Loved the soundtrack by M83. The visuals were beautiful. The plot has been done before (Moon). I don't feel like I wasted my time but other than visuals and the music? There's nothing new here.
Awesome!!!!! Best Tom Cruise film in a long time and epic Sci-Fi. Joe Kosinski is a true world builder!
at first I considered not watching this because i really don´t like Tom Cruise. Would have been a mistake to skip it, though.
Personally I think the plot was solid. Not full of surprises but sufficent. I didn´t felt that something was missing. I concur with most reviews that the visuals and score are great (BluRay FullHD and DTS master).
One of the better movies I´ve seen lately.
omg... whats wrong with you people. This movie is awesome, not one bad thing in my opinion.. If you love science fiction, you must watch this and don't read the summary and don't watch the trailer! Enjoy.
Oblivion is a smart and well-crafted apocalyptic sci-fi thriller. While patrolling the abandoned wastelands of Earth, technician Jack Harper uncovers a dark secret that changes everything that he thinks he knows. Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, and Olga Kurylenko lead the cast and give strong performances. The directing is also quite good and adds a lot of tension and suspense to the film. And while the plot may seem rather simple, it tackles some interesting sci-fi concepts. Additionally, the special effects and score are incredibly well-done. Action-packed and entertaining, Oblivion delivers a remarkably compelling adventure.
Inception and the matrix mixed into one big ball that weirdly also reminds me of Star Wars and the hunger games. I had trouble following which one the original man was and which were clones, also I still don’t really understand how his wife was in a pod the entire time alive.
Predictable sci-fi movie. It would have probably been more epic as a TV series where the viewer is allowed more time to connect with the cast and show.
My second time watching it, the futuristic sci-fi setting and plot pulled me in the first time- my second time around I just really found the relationship of Julia and Jack the most compelling.
Starts off dull and gets duller.
It's so dull I watched it twice (one after the other) because I couldn't remember what happened the first time around. The sad thing is I'll probably watch it again because I won't have any memory of watching it previously.
Worth a watch. Found the story a bit all over the place
Oblivion is not your regular, fast-paced sci-fi action film that offers cheap thrills rather is primarily a great visual experience It's a profound, cerebral drama that focuses on Jack's inner journey and his relentless search for identity in a post-apocalyptic world. A stunning visual delight from Joseph Kosinski.

Enjoyable enough scifi with a usual committed Tom Cruise peformance. Olga Kurylenko does well with the little she is given.
The setup and cinematography are excellent. It looks fantastic and the plot is interesting... Up until the last 30 minutes and it goes all American, choosing a Hollywood clean wrap-up.
I feel a better ending was put aside and I'd be curious to know if there's an alternate ending on the Bluray edition...
7.5/10
I tried to watch this but it proved terribly boring.
Some unanswered questions! When I saw Morgan Freeman, the movie was spoiled, because how can Morgan Freeman be a villain?
Un poquitín de “WALL-E”, otro tanto de “Moon”. Meh, no está mal.
Los drones tienen muy buen diseño, creo que es la mayor aportación de la película.
This is basically 'Moon' with a Tom Cruise budget, isn't it?
Good story and affects overall but the ending doesn't work for me. Maybe if he were numbered 53? #ShiftvW8
All I have to say about this film is... what!?
Beautiful design, good story, great feel
Cine PAco 1. Picture and sound 5/5. I liked it more than the other time, futuristic designs were really cool
Отличный фильм для просмотра вечерком
I loved the movie overall, but the soundtrack is totally the best part.
Nice combination of Star Trek's Borg sphere, and Star Wars' Clones ;) But apocalyptic Earth could look more apocalyptic after only 60 years ;>
Excellent CGI + Sound design. Predictable plot and characters, not emotionally engaging enough to make anything more than 90 minutes even appear entertaining.
Not that bad ;)
Unfortunately I spoiled myself by accident, so I robbed myself of a joy ride.
Anyways, it's a good one & the soundtrack is even better!
Enjoy.
Enjoyable sci-fi, but one you just switch off and enjoy. I though it was a "hollywooded" up version of Moon. And the character I liked the most was probably the drones, I would love to have one as a pet.
Impressive visuals and style, just nothing groundbreaking on the story front.
Basically an ego platform for Mr T Cruise
Visuals were the great but that's about it for me. Fell asleep towards the end.
Would have given it 8/10 but the last 30 minutes weren't that good anymore, so 7/10
Super predictable plot, nothing new but certainly enjoyable! Needs to be watched in 1080p with the biggest sound system you have - the visuals are stunning and the sound design is even better... worth watching just for that!
Not bad! I love the scifi visuals.
Muito bom,
The whole plot was entirely predictable, but the all-star cast and abstract premise made for an interesting watch.
A decent scifi with mediocre story. Loved it!
Solid scifi. Reminded me of Moon.
Can't wait for blue ray to blow my neighbours away
Definitely need to watch this one again.
tom cruise never disappoint ... a great movie with a good end to it .. i still have couple of questions tho but nvm .. and btw olga is my new crush :weary:
Not really sure why this so highly rated (well … reasonably high). Story has an interesting twist but then generally barely any character development, Tom Cruise delivers his lines less than mediocre and the script is horrible … seriously. Who wrote these lines?
One of the few movies I couldn't finish.
Well done visually! Storyline was a bit predictable, but interesting enough and worth a watch. A bit troubled by the implications of the end re: relationships, and wondering about the rest of the poor bastards.
A solid movie.
The first 30 minutes were ok, but then ... duh!
But, yea, definitely worth watching.
Kind of a silly movie, but kept my interest I guess.
Really slow at the start
The whole movie felt like a rip off of the moon (http://trakt.tv/movie/moon-2009) idea to me. While moon only needs a single actor to pull of a great plot, this picture needs the typical hollywood size list of actors. the cgi, sfx and music are great but the plot is very predictable and has nothing new or special.
so much that i haven t ever seen in other movies...
Excellent with a good twist at the end
Excellent with a good twist at the end
Great sifi movie not loads of action....very cool story though.
Good movie. Really liked the ending.
Great movie to think about
This movie is beautiful but I didn't appreciate the end of it.
Good but not great.
The end could be better.
It is Not bad but it is Not epic.
Great act and effect!!good job
Wasn't bad! Tom Cruise surprises me time and time again. I thought the trailer looked dumb but this movie was a pleasant surprise!
Love thatcher the film is filmed in Iceland
movie lost its touch after 1/2 of the movie, but +1 for the visuals
So this feels like a remake of Moon (2009), with great special effects, but lacking some of the depth and questions of humanity and solitude. Great entertainment!
I give it a 7 just for the special effects.
Story could be so much more, but stays shallow.

I really enjoyed it.
Visuals were stunning, futuristic designs were really cool, the drones were f***ing awesome and the twist was unexpected. Well, for me..
The story kinda lingers at the end but basically t'was awesome.
