Old Henry 2021

"You have no idea of the hailstorm that you facing to let loose."

I've always love western. A genre that is sadly about dead in cinema. This one is a slow burner with a great payoff at the end.

What a great slow burn western with great twists and turns. Tim Nelson was fantastic.

i liked it but only because i love westerns. It;s a little short on somethings and not enough on other parts

Old school western. Predictable and completely satisfying. A few homage John Ford shots and enough surprises to keep you smiling. Great score. Cinematography first rate. Performances equal to the task. Destined to be the best Western of the year and definitely a classic in the making.

Tim Blake Nelson was fantastic in this! Definitely going to lookup his other films. This was a great old school western, can’t say much else than what others have said…it’s a slow burn, but builds nicely throughout.

I fine western with a good twist along with a cracking set of cowboys with some good shooting.

Very good movie, well worth the watch. Not fast action but some excellent acting and a good story line. Very believable and makes you feel as if you're there.

So good, if you like modern westerns, then this movie has to be on your shortlist.... great acting, directing, and even a bit of a twist ending!

Tim Blake Nelson is always worth watching and so it is here, in this engaging, surprising western. The first half drags a little but it gets better as it goes along.

Tim Blake Nelson and Stephen Dorff carry the film and feel right at home in a western. The dialogue has plenty of fun/clever turns of phrase that reminded me of some of my favorite lines in True Grit (2010). However, while I initially enjoyed the small scale of the plot, it ended up veering into clichés on more than a few occasions that ultimately left it feeling a bit slight. Additionally, the climax of the film was a somewhat disappointing, with a feeling of "been there, done that". All that said, none of these issues were deal breakers and with the good/great acting taken into consideration, I think it's worth the watch for any western fan.

TBN & Dorff are great here. A real meat and potatoes slice of "western" life at the turn of the 20th century. Great acting w a tiny budget from the two main leads. The son was a bit of a miss for me, but small gripe. Competently made and told. 7.0

There is a simplicity to Old Henry's traditional Western production that is comforting and engaging. A movie that treads well within the lines of its genre, but does so with such finesse that it feels perfectly realised and rewarding in its linearity. Such a simple narrative allows Tim Blake Nelson to bring his A game, delivering nearly all of his performance as the titular Henry with a simple squint of the eyes or stomp of the boot. I didn't expect to enjoy this one as much as I did, but here we are. An overlooked contemporary Western gem.

Admittedly, I’m not a big fan of westerns. Also not a huge fan of slow burn films. But this film bucks those trends in a good way. It’s a slow burn western with a great payoff and good action along the way. Definitely a recommendable movie that may have a niche audience, but that audience will love!

Rating: 3.5/5 - 8/10 - Would Recommend

Good movie. Wish there was more westerns back on screen. Its a little slow with the uptake and lacking a more suspense but still a good watch.

Would have been halfway decent if they didn't force the historical connection, one that plagues Western cinema and makes it feel like such a small world. Almost felt like an A24 film but then the contrived "twist" ruined everything that was built up to that point. Studios need to let these stories be their own independent slice of life, not some extension to Western mythology.
