A missed opportunity. Saoirse Ronan was the draw, and she and Billy Howle built strong characters and gave solid performances, as did the whole of the cast. The location shots were beautiful and the classical music and that of the Quartett were hauntingly beautiful. But the story was badly told. The premise was butchered and the pace was muddled. So much time was spent leading to the inevitable crisis and, then, it was as if the writer didn't know what to do with it and a potentially poignant ending was wasted. The poor script dragged a potentially great production down and I give the film a disappointed 6 (fair) out of 10. [Relational Drama]

Let me tell you my motivation for watching this movie. I am a big Saoirse Ronan fan. That does not mean I like everything she is in.
The movie is not awful, it is well made and all the performances are solid. But the story passes by me.
1962: We see two people on their wedding night trying to have sex and we learn through flashbacks how they got to this point. Up to this points I have two issues with the movie. I don't like flashbacks and especially the, for the lack of a better term sex-scenes, are unwillingly comical. So, things turned sour and since they can't get past this problem they split up. We then see in two short leaps into the future what becomes of them and they meet for a final time at the end.

It is a sad story but on an emotinal level it didn't touch me because I never made a connection to the characters and their story.

A sleeper at times very slow but I’ve felt the regret of rash decisions that the main character felt and often thought knowing the end would be preferable to the usual never knowing. Now I’m not so sure.

A honeymoon night to remember, but not for the right reasons. A sad but moving tale, perhaps not as relevant with society's mores today, but evocative of a time when sex wasn't given out freely way before the wedding night.

Started good, but finished like a cliche Nichols Sparks movie. The timeline was all over the place and didn’t stick long enough in each sequence for you to care enough. Which made the time jumps and the whole movie have no effect whatsoever. The solid acting from both leads is what kept me watching. Enjoyable, but unrecommendable.
