Really good film, certainly Bays best ever (not hard). Wahlberg replays his 3 kings character in a NBK meets the big lebwoski, very funny.
Not the best movie you’ll see but memorable.
The movie itself is quite hilarious, can't stop laughing all the time! It's a true story though, don't missed the real person shown up in the ending.
If you're in for a bit of "I can't believe they really did that" and "can people be so dumb?" Kind of true story humour, this is great. The actors play their roles perfectly and it was good to see Dwayne Johnson in something other than hardcore action. Personally I enjoyed it, I was however tired and just in the mood to watch movies. Good to check out if you don't mind dumb movies.

After all the people that were repulsed by this movie I did not know what to expect. It turned out to still be a decent movie, if identifying with the characters in the traditional sense of a movie was out of the question. Still has its funny moments if not a little squeamish as it is based on a true story.
The only good thing michael bay has ever done. Laughed lots watching this, Big Lebowski with meat heads.

So here we have Michael Bay taking his Scorsese and Coen brothers influences and watering them down to a film for meathead douchebags. It’d probably be a lot of fun without the shouty, in your face direction and sickening, oversaturated cinematography. You could defend those choices as ‘well it’s meant to reflect the characters’, but no, it’s just excessive and tacky. Where’s the fun or complexity in a movie that laughs at these people for 2 hours by virtue of saying ‘look at these dumb idiots, brah’. Moreover, the acting is pretty bad, the dialogue sucks (lots of Bay’s trademark cringe comedy) and it generally fails to hit any interesting emotion or idea.

Actors were the only thing good about this movie. Supposedly based on some real event although mostly adlibbed into a looney story that just barely floats on the actors alone. Sometimes reality is better than fiction. This isn't one of those times.
Average movie. I did not really like the narration aspect of the movie, and the acting was sub-par. This movie is about a group of three body-builders that set out to kidnap and rob a man of his life-savings, in order to get rich. The group of men get away with robbing their first victim, because no one would believe his story and account of the events that took place. The three men ultimately waste away all of their money, on houses, cars and drugs, and set out to rob another individual. However, in a freak accident, one of the men accidentally ends up killing their victim, and the three men get caught and pinned for the crime. This was based on a true story.
I find it unbelievable that this movie is based on a true story. Part of me wants to believe that it actually happened as bizarrely, unbelievably, and insanely as the writers of this movie portrayed the whole thing as, but that is even more unbelievable than this whole true story.
Truth is stranger than fiction. Good performances and bizarre story compels you to keep watching

The first half hour is hilarious. Wahlberg and The Rock as over-the-top bodybuilders. It's a lot of fun to see them take themselves (and bodybuilding) not too seriuosly. The erst of the movie goes downhill from there. The fact that the movie is apparently based on a true story helps though. Surreal..
That movie is so bad that not even Michael Bay could have made it worse, no matter how hard he'd try. I'm so speechless after watching it that it makes me want to re-think the meaning of life.

Almost the whole plot is based on the true story. No, this is not a spoiler, because i will not say somethin to that.
Is the movie funny? Some parts are. But there are also this non-funny-michael-bay-movie-jokes inside. The stupidity is so unbelieveable and also so headshaking, that this is just madeup michael-bay-bulls**t, right?
Sadly enough it's not. And thats the good thing about this movie. In my option there exists one fix point of the story and for the viewer: And this is Ed Harris. He sums it up and makes this movie much better.
But in fact the movie isn't that bad as the other reviewers said. The only problem - besides some dumb michael-bay-jokes - is this one: the movie don't know what it wants to be. A comedy or a serious movie. But even then the movie is entertaining.
I liked it - Even with some flaws.

One of the worst movies i have seen in a while. Admitting to having an actor crush on Mark Wahlberg, i was looking forward to this and the initial posters gave the impression it was a movie to see. Boy, was I wrong. An absolute snoozefest from start to finish, My opinion, don't bother!!

I was expecting the worst because of the "Michael Bay stigma" but actually it was good! When it got to the end I was surprised by how much I had enjoyed it.
I knew that it was based on a true story but I didn't knew that it was that story! This unbelievable true story, is horrible and brutal and turning it into a satire probably wasn't the greatest thing in the world but the truth is that it worked well. I'm sure that the families of the innocent victims are not very happy with the whole comedy concept but I guess the film does not try to glorify those three stupid and absolutely horrible idiots but making fun of them and also shows how that pursuit for "the american dream" can be so ridiculous that people are capable to do things that we can't even imagine. But I can understand why many say that it's disrespectful.
The acting was very good by all of the actors (although I think Mark Walhberg does the same kind of acting in all of the films) but Dwayne Johnson continues to amaze me! I think he is improving a lot as an actor and he had the best character and best performance of this film.
Definitely not what I expected, in a good way!

In this movie people are extorted, murdered, dismembered in a happy-go way, like it was the most normal thing in the world to do.

"Pain and Gain" is a film starring The Rock and Mark Wahlberg as two bodybuilders looking to score some good money. The film gives Michael Bay a break from the usual big epic action films that we are used to seeing. Even though the film is portray as a comedy, the entire story is based on a true story which makes it even more crazy once you see the film. Mark and The Rock are funny on this film and they definitely look the part through out the whole film, but the film itself is not a laugh out loud film like the "Hangover". Even though is not a very funny movie, the film can still be funny and real at some parts. "Pain & Gain" is not for everybody, but is definitely a film worth checking out if you get the chance to see it.
My favourite Michael Bay film. Decent amount of action, with some intense gory scenes. Couldn't believe it is based on a true story.
