Pioneer Woman 1973

This clearly made for TV movie is pretty painless and timed just right at ~70 minutes. We follow the Sergeant family as husband John decides to move his family from Indiana to Nebraska where he wants to become a farmer. We learn along the way that Shatner can be as melodramatic on the prairie as he can be in space. Things don't turn out well in Nebraska and the family must continue on to Wyoming. As you can judge by the title, the film is more about how Maggie is handling the transition to the west. She is faced with some difficult choices when the plan falls apart and she grows stronger throughout the ordeal. You kind of get the feeling that this was an attempted TV pilot the way they set up a potential relationship with Mr. Douglas but a series never happened. Lastly, and the only reason I would recommend this to anyone is to see the debut of 10 year old Helen Hunt as Sarah, the Sargeants' daughter.
