I assume it has the name "Police Story" simply because Jackie Chan portrays a cop. Much like the previous reboot (New Police Story), it really has nothing in common with the original Police Story series. The tone is much more serious and intense.
That said, it's a very enjoyable action movie with interesting storytelling.
