Someone should start a Kickstarter to raise money for Kit Harington to get acting lessons.
It all depends on you. If you want to watch an original and profound movie and learn something about the Roman Empire, just forget it. If you want to watch a effect ridden action adventure, you are going to like this. It is not the movie of the year but I surely had a great time watching it.
Special effects are amazing, ok, but it's a bad and fair copy of Gladiator, mixed up with a poor plot and lovestory. I hate they adapted history to special effects needs (that fucking fireballs, seriously?! c'mon!!) People died buried in the ash, the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum were obliterated and buried underneath massive pyroclastic surges and ashfall deposits, but not fireballs.. even director said it.
Soundtrack is really good, 'tho.
But overall it's... meh....
I was surprised I enjoyed this a lot. This is not a very good movie and the actors are ugly and look unsympathetic but somehow I (or the movie) surpassed all of it! I cared about every single character and the movie connected with me on some level.
I loved this, why is sooo underrated. . .
First of all: Pompeii felt like a little bit like „Gladiator“ with Russel Crowe, but more than in a bad way.
If you gonna watch this movie, you get good special effects , and a bad story line with some plot holes. You already might know at the beginning of the movie, how it is gonna end - you at least gonna guess the middle „game“ of this Hollywood production.
And I feel a little bit bad for movies which have a bad story. You put millions of millions of Dollar$ into the special effects, production, actors and you put a fast-food story line in it? Why!?
.-/
Paul W.S. Anderson used the special effects too much. In those scenes, where the action is going on, the cuts were not the very best. He want to put so much action in it, that you might get a little bit confused - at least I got a little bit confused during watching.
And since I do not want to spoiler too much: a special scene where a character is dying… come on: You possible can not put more pathetic bullshit in it - can you?
Pompeii or is it spelled Pompeji (?) is getting 6 out of 10 trakt hearts. It is okay to watch this movie, if you want to turn your brain off for ~1.5 hours, but not worth to watch it a second time.
From Paul W.S. Anderson comes the disaster film Pompeii. The story follows a gladiator who’s sent to Pompeii for their games, but when Mount Vesuvius erupts he uses the chaos to break free of his bonds and attempts to rescue the magistrate's daughter, who saved him from execution. The plot is fairly trite, but is functional and provides characters to follow throughout the disaster. Kiefer Sutherland, Emily Browning, Carrie-Anne Moss, and newcomer Kit Harington lead the cast, and their performances are more or less adequate. The action sequences however, are especially good and bring a lot of excitement to the film. The CGI effects are a little overdone, but kind of work for the setting. And, the score is quite effective at accentuating the tone of the scenes. It has some problems, but overall Pompeii is an entertaining adventure.
Alright, boys, picture this: I'm all set for an epic disaster movie, primed for some cinematic catastrophe. But then, out of nowhere, the real 'disaster' strikes - Milo, oh my dude, Milo! I can't continue without going wild over his abs. I mean, seriously, this guy is so ridiculously impressive that I was left in total awe, like, "Whoa, Milo, you stud!"
Now, when Milo, our charming man, graced the screen as a smoldering slave, I was already in awe. But when he walked into the arena, donned in that slave gladiator armor that showed more than it hid, it was like watching a Greek god come to life. Oh boy! His sixpack is legendary! Milo, you're like a complete eruption of hotness! I have to admit, I was totally in awe and filled with respect. I couldn't stop staring at the sheer power emanating from this guy's body. That stud is so undeniably attractive, and I couldn't be more blown away.
But let's not get too carried away with Milo's sixpack. Let's shift our focus to the love story because Milo and Cassia's chemistry is scorching. Their romance sizzles like molten rock, and it's hard not to be swept up in it.
And as the volcano roared to life, it was as if the very Earth had unleashed its wrath. The visual effects were breathtaking, capturing the catastrophic beauty and terror of a city consumed by nature's fury. It's a visual spectacle that will leave you in awe, reminding us of the sheer power of the natural world.
In short, this flick serves up the real deal - and by that, I'm talking about Milo's epic abs, a romance that's hotter than fire, and volcanic blowouts that'll leave you seriously shook. And can we talk about Milo again? Oh, you Greek god of a stud. Seriously, this dude, with those killer abs, has transformed this whole experience into an abs-olutely epic adventure! :muscle::fire::muscle:
one of the worst movies i've watched this year! :D
The best movie i ever seen
Kit eye candy is why I stuck till the end. Horrible through and through.
I like Kit Harrington, I have a crush on Jessica Lucas, and I don't always hate Paul WS Anderson, but this doesn't have much going for it. The fight choreography was poor and the PG-13 rating made them even less interesting. I was hoping it'd turn around once the volcano started erupting, and it did a little, but not enough to make up for the first 2/3s of the movie. Smash b-versions of Gladiator and 2012 together and this is pretty much what you get.
best part of this movie? kit harrington sans shirt. i was not expecting anything but some eye candy and thats pretty much all i got (not enough though). im all for a no brainer action flick (ive seen and enjoyed all 4 transformers for christ's sake) but this couldnt even fulfill that. :(
A love story with an action-filled development, I really don't see nothing wrong with it. The plot was simple and very like Romeo and Juliet - star-crossed lovers who go through all kinds of challenges and sacrifices for each other, when they've actually barely spent 10 minutes together. I think the reason why people disliked this movie is because they expected a true action flick, and what they got was a very sweet romance instead. The whole movie is filled with romantic aspects commonly found in epic literature, and this was a nice touch, as I often feel Hollywood actually prefers to sacrifice those idealistic notions for more visually shocking scenes. The special effects provided a very nice background, and I'm not even the type who enjoys those. The acting was good, what lacked was simply character depth, which is unsurprising since the main focus was on the action. I'd describe it as visually striking, simple and enjoyable - I wouldn't mind watching it again sometime.
no storyline whatsoever, plain boring just good effects and jack bauer in Pompeii the same as in Touch, same character different names and environment.
A very mediocre attempt of what could be a great epos just by casting the right director and actors, wich in this case wasn't. In my opinion Kit Harrington (Game of thrones) and Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) aren't able to carry the whole movie and most of all the poor perfomance of a great veteran such as Kiefer Sutherland (24) was really a big letdown. Storywise it could be much better and often felt like "gladiator" without a Maximus. Special effects though were awesome and the reason i gave the movie a 5.
Hihihihi, Jon Snow, you know nothing. Sit in the Westeros, as you well. Final scene!
"Jack Bauer" in Pompeii.
Well let's see ^^
Great action and effects. Beather storyline would give it higher rates, how ever, well played parts and acting skills.
I don't get why everyone is criticising Pompeii, it's a great movie and the special effects are awesome and well made.
Não gostei de como foi desenvolvido mas o final, apesar de clichê, é muito bonito, passar os últimos momentos da sua vida beijando a pessoa amada, perpetuar o momento e tal...
Não é um filme ruim mas não me envolveu nem um pouco.
Thought is was a very good action/historical movie.

Terrible acting. The main guy spoke like Batman for the 20 words he actually spoke. Way too predictable and cheesy.
