What's good about this movie is that the story is very character based. All the major plot points relate directly to character's struggles and choices in a realistic way.
There was the spoiled brat celebrity girl who wanted a singing career, but who could not sing.
The poor Hispanic girl singer from a family band who needed money and agreed to let them use her voice for the cash. She had close family members and the people in her neighborhood who supported her dreams for success, and who she didn't want to let down.
The bad boy record producer, who the singer was attracted to and who said he would help her, but who in the end had to make choices to protect himself financially and further his own career.
Also, the nice, cute record company intern boy who flirted with the singer and tries to help her, though he has no influence or connections and is just starting out himself.
This seemed more like a parody of the average pop star movie to us. If they had declared it to be a parody with lots of black humour, this would have been good. But I think that they were actually being serious with this movie, so it's kind of bad
