Pride & Prejudice 2005

talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before.

Keira Knightley's a complete delight onscreen, and the soundtrack, cinematography and screenplay work like a charm. A spectacular experience.

One of the sweetest movies ever made. This adaptation is just so precious. Macfadyen IS Darcy; and the soundtrack is so incredibly beautiful, I always get teary eyed listening to it.

Oh, to watch the love of your life walk towards you across a field of grass, while the sun is rising and the birds are singing. Knowing how much they love you, and finally being able to tell them that you love them too.

One of the most beautiful movies ever made, IMHO. The music and cinematography are so mesmerizing. The scene in the early morning in the field where he makes the long walk toward her is simply stunning. The morning sunrise is one of the most perfectly romantic scenes. It captures me every time I watch it.

The first time I watched this movie, being too young and english not being my first language, a lot of things went over my head without even realising. Wow, I'm glad I re-watched this. Cause it's a damn good one.

  • the soundtrack fits perfectly
  • the leads are literally angst experts

I don’t believe I had never seen this movie, even though I thought I had seen every TV or Film version of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (of course, I’ve read the book). Not being an avid fan of either Keira Knightly or Matthew Macfadyen, I probably would not have seen it had friends not invited me over to a movie night. But, boy, am I glad they did. The cast has some of the brightest lights of UK talent, some just finding their light (Image, casting Carey Mulligan to giggle for two hours.) Brenda Blethyn was transformative as Mrs, Bennet and of course, the only Canuck in the cast, Donald Sutherland, did us proud as Mr Bennet. But, what I couldn’t get over was the cinematography and the directing. I know it was nominated for 4 Oscars but I have no idea why it didn’t carry away both of those awards. And the music, exquisite. It was spectacular even down to the minutest detail. The continuous unbroken shot of the opening scene and later at the ball were masterful. I give the film a 10 (stunningly executed) out of 10. (Classical Drama). Available on Netflix

Rewatched the 1995 miniseries earlier, so of course I had to rewatch this as eyebleach.

Pride & Prejudice rides almost entirely on the back of excellent performances by Knightley, Pike, and other core cast, though it tells this classic tale in a choppy presentation that has little sense of continuity.

Maybe i wasn't in the right mood but i didn't enjoy it as much as i would expect.Although it was a good movie and well directed i can see why many people loved it. 6.5/10

Donald in his supporting role did not disappoint. ps. But these high society stories always overshadow dozens of ordinary people working for them, creating this unrealistic idyll of historical times.

loading replies

Keira Knightley does her best but the two protagonists lack chemistry.

Why don't we speak like this anymore ? What has become of English!!! Note the grandeur, the elegance and eloquence of the parlance. We have taken that and put in place a mutated deformed fraction of it. I shall resume and restore this style insofar as I'm able.

I really loved! Keira is spectacular and the movie is so beautiful. The cinematography and the way the history walks it's so light.
Somethings disappointed me, but nothing that turn off the bright of the movie.

"You have bewitched me body and soul"
I will never get tired of watching this movie.
Yes, they changed things from the book (I will never get tired of reading it) but it's still wonderful.

This will forever be one of the most romantic movies in existence:heart:
The way she overcomes her prejudices, and he overcomes his pride all so they can finally see the other for who they truly are will never stop being beautiful to me.
Not to mention, Mr. Darcy’s socially awkward but lovingly adamant pursuit of the sarcastically independent Lizzie is just so insanely precious and adorable. This man would do anything for her, no questions asked, and if that’s not the most swoon-worthy thing that could possibly be said about a man who’s in love then I don’t know what is.
Also, the way this movie (and book, of course) masterfully engages with such clever dialogue and witty remarks will never stop being an absolute delight to behold. Moreover, this is not in the least made even better by the beautiful and genuine performances of every actor involved, supremely skillful script writers and stunning cinematography that perfectly strengthens the magic of every scene!

the dad and lizzie were so W rizz - well made and very compelling

I know this movie is hugely popular amongst young women but I wasn't moved by the romance because I felt it wasn't developed enough to make you care for those two together

keira knightley truly saved the day. this is well produced. but maybe the story is way too old for me

loading replies

Silly and unreal old movie, i regret downloading it, and I'm surprised about those people who found it good.

loading replies

Those movies of dark ages with silly dialogues are really a waste of time and data, no fun at all from this movie

I usually have nothing against Hollywood's feeble grasp of history or its trend to have every subtlety be replaced by on-the-nose melodrama, not to mention the cutting of every sub-plot and minor scene that might make things more believable or set the mood, but in this case it just feels a bit... rushed.
Also, I almost feel like the star power was a bit detrimental. I could think of Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet, not Swann, until Cutler Beckett showed up. On the other hand, the long take at the ball was extremely well done, and you can see the Hollywood budget in the beautiful sets (even if it's a bit strange Darcy seems to live in a museum).

I've never seen a film fail the Bedchel test so royally but still, a epic love story, with gorgeous photography and some incredible scenes and dialogue.

8/10

I don't usually do Jane Austen, but this movie won me over. A sweeping story, excellent performances--especially from female lead Keira Knightley--and sets that took me back in time. The only downsides were the occasionally immodest wardrobes and one usage of the a-word.

I have watched this movie so many times. I love it. Too bad I can't get daughter to watch it #sadface

I wanted to watch this movie for so long and now I finally managed. It is an interesting movie with interesting character development, even though sometimes they develop too fast – probably due to being a movie-problem but not with the original book.
Some of the acting is a little flat but in general the movie is quite good and direction of photography is really nice as well.

The movie could have been long, but nowadays it's such a classic. Still, I prefer the 1996 adaptation.
