Brilliant performance, brilliant twist.
Awesome movie. I'm glad i forgot the ending since last time I saw it.
The first hour is the most boring thing ever but then Edward Norton happens and it's just awesome.
So I think the title is a bit misleading, makes you think it'll have more of an unsettling atmosphere.
Also I have an issue with the ending, not that it's bad, but it does perpetuate the stereotype that mental health issues are merely fake excuses that let criminals get away scott free, and even trained experts can be fooled.
Roy: "We were dancing Marty, we did it man we fucking did it. We're great team you and me!"
Edward Nortan is fucking amazing in this role. Bravo:clap::clap::clap:
It's a by the numbers thriller with a "twist" you can see a mile off.
Watch it for EN's performance not necessarily for the story.
Edward Norton was fantastic, no doubt. But the plot is pretty silly and only somewhat watchable because of the flaws of US jurisdiction.
I've seen this film once or twice before. First time, it was when it hit the home video market so I'd guess late 97. The second time was on TV several years after that.
Here I am watching it after a further decade or so...
I know the twist that is coming. Long before The Sixth Sense made final plot twists cool, this film borrowed from the best film of the previous year - The Usual Suspects - and had a final moment twist to improve itself. Had it waited a couple of years before trying this ruse, it might be better remembered.
It's an engaging courtroom drama with mystery thriller aspects. Good performances all round, with special exception of Richard Gere.
Gere comes in for a lot of bad press. His style of acting is classed as wooden. I disagree. He seems to me to have mastered th E art of acting like the everyman. And he acts like a man off the street. Which is his downfall... His mannerisms are slight, his demeanour is subtle, his outbursts contained.
Some actors can convey hours of anger with a twitch - think early De Niro. Some can explode and not overfill the screen - think late Pacino.
Gere is at one ned of the spectrum but should have been plying his trade at the other. From Pretty Woman to Shall We Dance, his acting could have been better than it was whilst not being poor such that those movies were failures.
In short, this is well worth a watch.
8/10
after seeing ed norton's chatacter in this is when i believe i fell in love with his acting. this is the movie where he stood out and forever made me a fan of his. ill never forget going who the heck is this guy?
my general dislike for gere is conflicting how i feel about this film. one thing is certain: norton was boss.
A well-crafted psychological thriller, Primal Fear is intense and provocative. When a Catholic Archbishop is brutally slain a hot shot defense attorney takes the case of the young man accused of the murder. Starring Richard Gere, Edward Norton, and Laura Linney, the film has a solid cast that gives some very strong performances. The storytelling is also especially well-done, particularly in how it works up to and develops the twists and reveals. Additionally, the directing brings an air of mystery and suspense to the film. Primal Fear is a dramatic and compelling film that is full of intrigue.
i find the scene at the front of lift that Gere mad at his two assistants was funny.and now i know why Norton play Hulk
awesome movie! Edward Norton is the best of it.
What a great movie with such a powerfull acting from Norton and well directed.I liked the plot twists during the movie and the whole atmosphere. 7.3/10
I wasn't expecting the end. Edward Norton is really great, I love him.
Amazing performance by Edward Norton, loved this movie
Edward shines in his role! Must watch.
25 years on and this is still a superb movie. The casting serves the story very well, The arrogance of Richard Gere and the quirky intelligence of Frances Mcdormand. And of course Edward Norton whose portrayal of a meek underdog turned psychopath is spellbinding in its evolution. Well recommended watch, especially if you haven’t seen it before.
Norton - fit great in his role. Gere - pathetic wooden acting. In summary it could have been better but it is not bad.
I gave this movie a 6/10.. Very Slow Slow Pace from Beginning to End.. It never picks up despite the Great Acting from Edward Norton and Richard Gere.. Great Supporting Cast blended in with a good story.. The Acting and Dialogue was Great I love how in depth Norton Got with his character playing a similar role in Fight Club.. But overall the Pace Hurt the movie.
Primal Fear (1996)
1/2 story
2/2 acting
/2 pacing
2/2 dialogue
/1 directing, technical aspect
1/1 living up to its genre
