As a straightforward melodrama about unrequited love, it was mostly fine. But as a super queer-coded exploration of identity and gender, I thought it was great. Obviously the main draw here is Garbo, and I can't imagine Christina played by anybody else.
A great movie with Greta Garbo and John Gilbert. Bio of Queen Christina who falls in love and abdicates the throne only to have her love die..... sad and haunting but great performances.
