Rabid 2019

I didn't watch the original Rabid, so I cannot compare it to Cronenberg's version. I did like this Soska sisters movie though. It's entertaining, although the plot being a tiny bit too predictable. Then again, what would you expect from a body horror movie that kind of mixes vampirism with a zombie-esque outbreak. Props to the Makeup department, I especially liked the prostethics design in this one.

Apparently the idea to remake the pleasantly kitsch 1977 Cronenberg original was so bad it was contagious, because it infected the acting, directing and script of this resuscitation of direct-to-DVD.

“Now, where were we?”

Why the need to over explain the story and over build the characters! Watch the original and this back to back and you will see just how films today are destroying the art.

Well that was different...In a good way. I did enjoy it; it was weird, gory horror. The special effects team did well with the creatures and rabid people. The props in the background were creepy too.

It had a strange story, there was no conclusions on what was going on. Just weird horrible things happening.

Nevertheless, it was a decent enough horror film. It did it’s job in making us cringe in horror, so therefore it was successful in that manner.

It’s worth watching, just don’t expect to really know what’s going on. Perhaps deliberate for a sequel.

It was almost like the beginning of something without the end, hence my thoughts of a sequel.

It’s not vampires, nor is it zombies; it like some weird combination with these and something new.

The cast were great, they played their parts well.

It didn’t follow the norm for films with a hero or happy ending, which is refreshing.

Nearly 2hrs of kind of enjoyable weirdness lol.

I thought it started out decently, but then devolved a bit. The 2nd and 3rd act could have been a bit better, IMO. It was still decent enough to finish out, so it does have that going for it.

There were quite a few places where the writing just seemed to fall down and the scenes seemed either rushed or very awkward, like they didn't know how people interact with each other in the real world.

Practical effects were pretty good too. If someone asks for a recommendation, I'd steer them toward the Cronenberg original.

Not too bad. It looks like it's been filmed and edited by a crew who normally works on day time soaps. Which is too bad. But overall its pretty good. I actually felt bad for her after the accident. The pacing is really good, nothing gets drawn out for too long so it managed to keep my attention. That's all I look for.

Like some others, I never saw any other version other than this one but this one I liked. Kind of a neat spin on vampirism/zombie crossovers. The ending was (for me) kind of unexpected, so I give kudos to them for that. Also, I thought the makeup/effects were outstandingly done. Musical score, lighting, supporting cast...this was a well-rounded - if somewhat bland - movie. By "bland" I mean, there was nothing earth-shatteringly shocking about it but it was definitely interesting enough to hold my attention for the full 1 hr, 48 minutes. It's not gruesomely violent, although there are some pretty intense scenes (but this isn't Hostel -like torture porn stuff) nor is it overly gory, but I think it would be decent enough to hold the attention of almost anyone that likes a good scary/thriller movie. Additionally, they don't take forever to get into the heart of the story, which is a huge plus for me. There's not a ton of backstory so they don't take forever trying to build on it. Overall, I thought this was a really decent film.

From the good to the excruciatingly bad, this is a real mixed bag of a movie.

Well that was different. I think overall the movie did pretty well. I was just a bit disappointed in the weird bumpiness of the quality and consistency. The pace is good and visuals are very well done. Overall it just didn't fully click.
