I honestly didn't know what I was getting into with this one... I thought maybe I was going to get immortal vampire woman... and honestly, I'm still not convinced that Carrie Chan isn't actually the female character in the opera, just living through time. It kinda makes more sense if she is, honestly.
But what I got was a lot of homicidal fetishistic lesbian sadism, a movie full of thoroughly unlikable or underdeveloped characters, a mostly incoherent or inconsequential plot (people want to get paid for a thing, people don't want to pay for a thing, random girl at the beginning dies in a purpose built fetish bed for... reasons?).
Having said all that, Carrie Ng is actually pretty good... even though this is a weird role and a character that is easy to either totally write off as a joke or just loathe, somehow Carrie keeps her engaging against all odds. I think maybe it's because she's the only one who actually realised what movie she's in, so she's doing exactly what needs to be done.
