Hummingbird (released as Redemption in the United States) is a 2013 British action drama film written and directed by Steven Knight, in his feature film directorial debut.
Not your typical Jason Statham film, but a very nice surprise. Yes, there were a couple of punches thrown but this was much more a "drama" than an "action" film...and Jason Statham proved he has the ability to pull off more than just the tough guy roles. I watched this because, based on the synopsis, I expected another Statham action/fight movie but this was so much better. I can understand the American title Redemption but I think the UK title Hummingbird would have carried just as well. When you watch the movie, you can certainly understand why. For the true fan of Statham, I would defintely recommend this; for those who prefer his action movies, you'll probably want to pass on this one. This is very much a drama. I loved it.
For a Jason Statham film it was more than action! I'm very impressed by how much I enjoyed this. I was expecting the usual Statham film and this wasn't like that.
This story is dark and very believable. Statham plays Joey Jones a man who is traumatized by his experiences in war in Afganistan. Because of that he became a homeless and an alcoholic and it was very good to see a softer, deeper and emotional side of Statham in a film than the usual badass guy.
I liked the way a dark side London was portrayed, and theres a lot of beautiful shots of the city.
I hope Jason Statham continues to do roles like this, this was different and refreshing.
I don't know why the title was changed from Hummingbird to Redemption in the US, but I definitely prefer the Hummingbird title. There are some hidden messages in this film that suits best in this title. Sometimes we have to make decisions in life and later we'll have to take the consequences and adapt ourselves like the hummingbirds do. Good and evil are in our daily lifes we just have to make the right choices.
this was not the Jason Statham movie I was waiting for. He needs to stick to the action genre we love him for. Not recommended for Statham fans!

I had a heck of a time finding this movie. The name I found it under is Redemption or Jason Statham Redemption, but never thought to look under Hummingbird. Weird.
Like a connect-the-dots with only two dots, I expected the Afghani war vet to have PTSD and a raped girlfriend to revenge, but I must admit the horny nun wasn't on my bingo card.

Redemption is a typical Jason Statham film where he drives a car and kills people, and there’s not much of a point to anything that happens. Here Statham plays a homeless vet named Joey who’s on the run, but before long he’s drawn into the life of an enforcer for the Chinese mafia. Poorly titled, there’s no “redemption” in the story, as Joey remains a corrupt, amoral character throughout. An inane and rote thriller, Redemption is mindless tripe.
I have lost 90 minute from my life. Terrible.
Jason Statham Shines as a serious Actor

Just finished watching "Redemption"/Hummingbird" and was most impressed with this movie as entertainment,I knew nothing about it except my favorite"Action Man"Jason Statham was in it so that was enough to gain my interest and I was not disappointed however it was a movie not in the usual style I expected of Jason Statham,after I got past the first fifteen minutes started to seriously get into the story. I won't go on with with all the details of the Plot,if you have taken the trouble to read my review you will know that information. This is a movie for anyone who enjoys good Drama/action with a small hint of romance and revenge also some redemption thrown in almost at the end, there I think I covered it all,was also impressed with Agata Buzek a new actress to me who is now on my Radar,her character of "Cristina" the Nun was very believable.I gave this film a seven because I enjoyed and was entertained which is why one goes to the movies.......

Yea not really a fav for us Americans. Rather seem him just kicking some ass, one ahole after another.
But personally, I do like him playing the dark hero type.
One of his better movies IMO.

this movie is amazing! Dont follow the other bad reviews, they are just idiots. Once you start watching this flick you realize its a pre-squeal to transporter. I found it so awesome because i just like the guy and started watching this movie, and it was a nice surprise . Others that ditch this film and like Jason, are just morons.

I liked this movie because it was more than the full on hard ass action that i usually see from Jason Statham.
But i can imagine that if you go to this movie expecting one brutal fight scene after another that you might be disappointed.
Jason's worst film by far. It was slow as mentioned and quite boring. Give it a miss.
This was much better than expected, so I gave it a 7/10... Normally it would be a 6, but I have to reward it, for being so much better than the last movies I had to endure... Like Snitch, Bullet To The Head and so on...
As already stated, the story is predictable (although he doesn't end up being the good guy or turning against his employer), but the action is nice there is a tiny twist in the premise and the action was quite good.
