This was closer to the original PITCH BLACK. It seems David Twohy abandoned the need for a big budget movie to tell his story. In this third instalment of the Riddick Chronicles he went back to a low budget (comparatively) production and grossed over 3 times the investment. This story had some slow bits but overall was good story telling. It was good to see Katie Sackhoff in the cast and Vin Diesel stays true to his course. All round good entertainment. I give this a 7.9 (very good) out of 10. [SciFi Action]
riddickulous bullshit with some very bad cgi and horrible acting
A combination of the two different type of movies before it but I was bored for most of it.
This could have been a really good film. Unfortunately all of the great elements are buried under forced connections to the other Riddick movies, terrible CGI, worse dialog, an overlong runtime, and poor characters. This could have been a great thriller where the main character is the antagonist, complete with a romp throughout an alien landscape amongst monsters, but it was destroyed by the aforementioned failings. #MovieReview
I kinda like this latest, and for the time being...last, chapter in the story about one of the biggest badasses ever to grace the movie screen. Vin Diesel was born to play Riddick, and he's just as badass in this chapter as he was in the first two. The thing is...the first two had somewhat of a story. Riddick has not. It's entertaining enough, and if you are in the mood for some sci-fi action go right ahead. Riddick delivers what you seek. Just keep in mind that the story of Riddick does not progress very far in this chapter.
What a major disappointment after the excellent Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick. Bad Dialogue, unconvincing performances, and clunky editing provided little suspense or interest of any kind in this pointless plot. The character played by Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica) was a complete waste of her talent. A couple of spectacularly rendered alien landscapes, sinister atmospheric scenes, and the few and far between sci-fi special effects delivered the only thing worth watching here. Multitudes of uninspired CGI beasts in attack mode were excessive, laughingly non-threatening, and served no other purpose than making the movie longer and that much more irritating to watch. Just one lone scene proved to be inspired but didn't occur until 90 minutes into the movie and it was way too brief. This movie certainly ruined the franchise for me. If they ever decide to make another one and not expect it to go straight to video, they better come up with a decent screenplay, an interesting plot, suspenseful editing, and a satisfying payoff.
Pitch Black 2 - good if you're into Riddick!
Perhaps a reduction in budget was a blessing in disguise, as the Necromonger villains from the last film are largely jettisoned except for brief moments to tie the films together. Instead, the film plays to the strength of the Riddick character as he battles to survive on yet another inhospitable planet with dangerous creatures. The mercenaries chasing Riddick are largely forgettable despite the tenuous links to Pitch Black, but with the focus on Riddick as a loner and survivor against them, this is much more fun to watch. A shame that the finale suggests a return to the plot elements from Chronicles in any future sequels, but this one plays to the strengths of the franchise.
After that shitty movie that's Chronicles of Riddick this is a great come back, there are some hint's to Pitch Black but this is way more on the Conan style type of character; the only bad part is the ending but still a good film.
This doesn't have the raw tension of the original and it doesn't have the blockbuster bombast of the second movie. Disappointing after all these years.
This was quite good, a very enjoyable pulp action scifi movie and a true sequel in mood and style to the original Pitch Black (which I loved), largely ignoring the Chronicles film.

Returning to basics, Riddick attempts to recapture the intensity and terror of Pitch Black. The story follows the wanted outlaw Riddick as he’s betrayed and left for dead on a desolate planet, forcing him to reawaken his animal instinct in order to survive. While it’s a fairly simple plot, there’s a good deal of mystery and suspense to the film. And, the special effects are effective at creating interesting alien creatures that are quite frightening. However, with the exception of Katee Sackhoff, the cast is pretty forgettable and are more or less just fulfilling stereotypical roles. Though it’s a little formulaic at times, Riddick delivers an exciting science fiction adventure.
Riddick:
There are bad days, and then there are legendary bad days. This was shaping up to be one of those. Whole damn planet wanted a piece of me. Can't stay in the open. Can't risk another attack. It's always the punch you don't see coming that puts you down. But why didn't I see it? But why didn't I see it? Of course they were gonna try and kill me. Death is what they do for a living. So the question ain't "What happened?" The question is "What happened to me?"
I had to create a word to describe this movie and the more I was watching and the more Pitch Black I was seeing.
When that movie came out, I was expecting to see lots of Necromongers, crazy Necro shit just as what the end of The Chronicles of Riddick was making think of.
Not at all. And now that I think of it, with Pitch Black, Dark Fury and the Chronicles nothing was like what you expected to see in the next chapter after finishing one.
So yes, I like what I watched. I was actually loving it until the murder of an innocent life (read other comments to find out). That made me "cry"....

I've watched Pitch Black and The Chronicles more than 50 times, I love what David Twohy did there.
Two points off because I stayed nearly 8 years dreaming of what could happen in this chapter and none of my dreams came true... Lol
Well, it's not bad but neither is it a second "Pitch Black", which is the much better movie! The monsters resemble somewhat the Alien(s) designed by H.R. Giger but they look cheap compared to the masterpiece of Giger.

Honestly, I was expecting something better. This movie tries to recreate the original "Pitch Black" feeling, but IMHO it fails poorly. Really, there's nothing new to it.

this was an ok movie until the bounty hunters showed up. even though the beginning third just seemed like rehashed trials from pitch black it was still enjoyable enough. pretty campy in parts but hey i was starting to think of the movie as almost a parody, army of darkness ancestor of the heart. then the bounty hunters show up. while there were some interesting moments, overall this movie made me very sad.
Can't wait to see Vin Diesel as Riddick again. Trailer looks great!
