How could you not love Kathleen in this movie

Romancing the Stone is an interesting watch for me. During my lifetime I never considered Michael Douglas as an action star and Kathleen Turner was one of the most beautiful women in the world at the point this movie is released. Robert Zemeckis crafts a very fun action adventure here. I never really understood the comparisons to Indiana Jones. The action doesn't hold up perfectly anymore but the movie is really fun and I like the characters.

Can't honestly say it's a good movie, but it is entertaining! A romantic action-comedy that both guys and girls can enjoy. Most things are over the top (chasing-scenes, dodging bullets) and don't make much sense storywise. The romantic moments aren't awfully romantic and the comedic moments aren't laughoutloud funny, but this movie still manages to provide some mindless entertainment and put a mild smile on your face.

Kind of recommended for a laidback evening with your girlfriend/boyfriend, when you don't really want to focus on the movie, but still want to be entertained. Just don't expect a particularly good movie.

Michael Douglas is giving Indiana a run for his money.

For a mid-80s action romance, it works. Watching 35 years later, it's okay but nothing special.

The two leads aren't tradiotnal casting and it was a good move for both Douglas and Turner to make this type of movie.

I see Indiana Jones comparisons and that's ridiculous. To me this is more in keeping with Crocodile Dundee - if the Americans had made that (without the charm of Aussie Wit) then this is the film you'd get.

6/10

(Back in the day, this would have been a 7.5/10)

Director Robert Zemeckis delivers a fun and outrageous adventure in Romancing the Stone. When her sister is taken hostage in Columbia romance novelist Joan Wilder is forced to come up with the ransom, but after taking a wrong turn she ends up on a wild adventure with a treasure hunter. Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito form a great cast and deliver solid performances. The story is fairly well told, however the characters are a bit underdeveloped and there are some weaknesses in the plot. Still, the action sequences are impressive and exciting, and the comedy works quite well. Romancing the Stone is a thrilling action film that's tremendously entertaining.

Action, adventure and laughs all held together by Turner and Douglas's magnetism, and that Robert Zemeckis magic dust.

I hate people comparing Romancing the Stone to Indiana Jones. This is nothing like Indiana Jones except the fact that they share a genre. Romancing the Stone stands very well on its own. No comparison needed.

Excellent actors, great director, and a very good story makes for an excellent evening of entertainment. Recommended to one and all.
