Session 9 2001

Pretty good movie. Only I'm not completely getting it: Simon possesses the weak and the wounded, therefore he is a demon that makes you kill people you love? And Gordon and Mary were both patients there, and they were all released in the 80's when the asylum's budget was cut? Right?

Gordon then must be one of the patients that wants to come back, just like the security guy said. So he's actually been working for 20 something years, although he murdered his family, build up a business, just so he can go back to his home-sweet-home-asylum? I don't get it. If someone could explain it to me, I'd appreciate it.

This is not scary for something that is classified as a horror flick. There was some interesting characters in this film but none of them really did anything of note. This is just a movie where not much happens until the end which happens to leave you scratching your head in confusion anyway.

This movie is hard to watch.... it’s so bad.

I went into Session 9 not knowing what it was about, so as the story went along I thought this would end up being a ghost story in that old asylum. Which is by the way, such an amazing setting. The Asylum alone is terrifying. Anyway, the film ended before I knew it. I was so engaged. Wanted to know what would happen next. Wanted to hear more from the tapes! WHO THE HELL IS SIMON!!!

Well in the end I knew. Brad Anderson's Session 9 is a horror gem. You don't need gore, or cheap scare tricks, if you can make such a unsettling atmosphere.

Session 9 is a must see if you love horror!

Haha I'm amazed by the high scores here. What were these actors thinking agreeing to be in this?

The camera looks awful, similar to a found footage movie. This wasn't even horror.

I thought it was a pretty good movie. It kept me sucked in, and it also had some good creepy scenes.

A truly terrifying and effective psychological horror. It's one of those types that really creep under your skin and never leave. It has everything going for it, the sound design and camerawork are top-notch, the abandoned mental facility setting and those audio tapes are effectively creepy and very well-utilized. All those things makes this an incredibly great film. With every minute, it gets more unnerving and the atmosphere in this is extremely thick and unbearably suffocating that I had to pause, turn the lights on, and take a deep breath halfway through. It's got a twisted plot which unravels in a truly unpredictable way and is filled with characters that are written with a surprising amount of depth. I highly recommend this one!

OK - bear with me. At first, I thought this was a remake of a movie with the same name from the '80s or '90s with Stacey Keach. But apparently this is not true as I could not find a movie like that. Turns out that I must have seen this movie before then.

I liked this movie. It's not a jump-scare horror movie, it's more psychological. The fact that the location that was used for filming did NOT need to be dressed up. That nothing needed to be added to bring atmosphere to the set. That the location/set already looked exactly like what we see on-screen makes the whole thing even creepier.
