at the end of the movie we don't really know what was driving Steve or Chuck's behavior. The time spent on the fantasy sequence hints at some of Steve's motivation but could have been used for more character development

The movie that made me a fan of Christensen. I remember walking out of the theater that night with my girlfriend saying, "Holy shit! That was actually Hayden Christensen!" At the time, the only other film I'd seen him in was Attack of the Clones, and he didn't really have much of a chance to shine in that. But Shattered Glass?
Man he's scary good as Stephen Glass, especially once his house of cards starts falling apart, and then there's nothing left for him to just keep desperately lying.
Also, props to Peter Sarsgaard as well. Not really surprising that he could give such a great performance, but he was a great counter-weight to Christensen's manic breakdown. Pretty much the entire cast is rock solid, especially the TNR staff.
