Another incapably made, overly dumb summer movie that panders to China.
Well done, Universal.
Good action flick. Went exactly as expected but you can't expect too much from a film like this. The Rock is on point as always, he's really doing great lately. There are a few scenes that if you're afraid of heights (and watching it in 3D as I did) you might clutch your chest a bit.
This is just your typical summer action popcorn flick. The Rock has basically carved out a whole genre of movies now, it's a Rock movie. The whole movie has no real surprises and plays out exactly as you think it would. Some of the visuals are ok. The story is pretty stupid and there are quite a few eye rolling moments. I wouldn't rush out to go see this but it might be something decent to watch with a hangover or something in the background.
Die Hard Eleventeen: Die Handicapped
“This is stupid.”
Well at least it knows.
‘Skyscraper’ is a disposable action flick starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Just looking at the advertisements you can already tell it’s gonna be those type of movies where you have to accept it to enjoy it. If you watched the trailer where Dwayne jumps off a crane into another building to rescue his family who are trapped inside, before cutting to the release date. It’s absurd, although looks fun. Might follow the same path of ‘Fast & the Furious’ type of ridiculous, yet fun. However, what really took me by surprise is how the movie doesn't quite embrace it’s stupidity, and instead goes for a more serious tone. So during those ridiculous moments, when I meant to switch off my brain and enjoy, but I couldn't buy into it. Basically it’s ‘Dike Hard’ and ‘Tower Inferno’, drowned out in CGI.
I know those comparisons have already been made by many people and the marketing campaign seemed to catch on by releasing spoof-like posters of those two films. What some have failed to bring up it’s not just those two movies it’s ripping off, as there’s plenty more. Literally every action movie ever, just done better before.
Die Hard? more like ‘Try Hard’.
Dwayne Johnson can make anything watchable. The dude is instantly likable in everything he’s in; both on screen and off. In this movie it’s no different. Although It’s not one of his best and we have seen better from him. Dwayne character is basic family man saving his wife and kids. The charisma was lacking and you expect more from The Rock in terms of picking roles. There’s no witty banter between other characters to flesh him out or anything. Overexposed maybe?
Neve Campbell delivered a decent performance and it’s great seeing her back. Unfortunately, just like Dwayne Johnson, she has no character besides being a plot device along with the children.
So let's talk about the villains, and yes I say “villainS” because there’s are so many the film keeps shifting focus. The bad guys are generic and not threatening at all. It’s even more funny when you realize there was no thought about their plan for it to work- allowing only on luck and convenience. They morons.
The biggest strength I thought the film succeed on was playing on your fear with heights. My hands started to sweat and your heart begins to beat faster. You’re afraid to look down. I thought those scenes was well done, especially the close calls moments.
Also the opening scene was pretty good. The way it opened was tragic and really sad, but that doesn't last very long.
Overall rating: Better get more duct tape.
In Skyscraper, Dwayne Johnson plays Will Sawyer, a former FBI agent and war veteran who assesses security for skyscrapers. He and his family reside in the world's tallest and safest skyscraper, "The Pearl," in China. However, when the building is set on fire and he is framed for the attack, Sawyer must clear his name and save his family while fighting off the bad guys. The film, directed by Rawson Marshall Thunder, is a Die Hard-like action movie with an abundance of explosions and big moments. However, the story is weak and the visuals are inconsistent. Johnson's performance is solid, but the film falls short of being average. The climax of the film also falls short of expectations.
If you can turn off that voice in your head saying "what, that's not possible", then you got really entertaining action movie :D
Cool building and visuals. Not worth mentioning in the same sentence as the classic movie it brings to mind.
And, doesn't help that I'm not a Rock fan.
Looking past how they blatantly suck up to the Chinese market, Skyscraper is actually engaging enough to keep me interested all the way through. Not much to the story, but the action and suspense are there. If you are into action for action's sake, this might be for you.
Is that The Rock's family? fire will not dare to touch you honey just keep going and end this fuckin movie
An absolute turd. A boring, by the numbers, copy of a copy of a copy of a turd action movie. Terrible. The Rock needs to STOP trying to workshop his movies to death via committee of yes men that will agree any idea he has is brilliant. In his effort to make a family friendly action flick that offends no one and appeals to everyone he's made a completely forgettable piece of shit. Same for Rampage. He needs to work with a director with a vision and not have final say over everything. He needs his own Jim Cameron or be open to working with a Jim Cameron if he wants to have an Arnold type career.
While riddled with every action movie trope and cliche in the book, Skyscraper still manages to be entertaining for the majority of it's runtime.
So the crane disappeared at the end of the movie, in the last shot of the tower?
Genuinely fun action packed movie from The Rock. The suspense in the movie is fun and the twists are great, even the bad guys were a perfect fit.
You could feel it was a heartfelt role played by Dwayne Johnson, and in the extreme moments even I felt afraid from the heights. Amazingly done and a great action movie to watch. DJ never fails to deliver
it's one of them movies that belong in a movie, where characters will now and then watch a scene and say "wow, the Die Hard remake sucks!
The entire time I'm just thinking, this is "Die hard" with big fake implants added to every other scene.
I think a fan edit focusing on Neve Campbell's' story might make an interesting short
I was really hoping that once the credits rolled there would be a big title card saying "and now - Tropic Thunder 2"
Its starts with Daddy saying how much he loves his children, for 3 minutes, and telling his wife the 'IT crowd' favourite- "turn it off and on again" - so we know the wife will do that and save the day, and his family will be in danger mostly.
Then the same old crap, the 'surprise' baddies are shown looking shifty straight away, The whole missing leg thing is utterly pointless, as it doesn't stop him doing anything - (both of mine were snapped open and I can't even jog a little let alone run off a crane)
This movie is pretty good. A quality addition to the genre. Neve Campbell rocks in this
When you order a pepperoni pizza and they deliver a pepperoni pizza, do you complain they didn't serve you filet mignon? This film is the pepperoni pizza of action films. If you want an action film, this has got it. It's not especially new or revolutionary or poetic, but at least it's got action from beginning to end which is more than many other action films of late.
Kinda like a high tech Die Hard.
Did they try fixing this movie with duct tape?
I liked it. I think it’s better watched when there are other people around so as to just comment about the action and not over-analyze the plot or some other technical details. To me this was the “comfort food” of movies. Thought it was good. Always like the Rock. Neve Campbell I thought was good too. The kids weren’t memorable. Idk if I would be able to recall them if I see them again in another movie.
Fine movie for a movie night.
I personally don't understand how Neve Campbell keeps getting roles. She is a terrible actress and it's no different in this movie.
From a technical stand point, this movie is all wrong. The hacker "supposedly" encrypted the device before being shot, this encryption goes away with a device reboot..... no. That's not how that works at all and this movie is all the more dumb because of it.
All the fire goes out at the end with the safety systems, yet when the safety systems were on at first, it couldn't put a fire out on one floor because of that chemical? Yet that chemical has no affect at the end?
Terrible movie, don't waste your time.
story wise "week sauce" for the action not bad
“This is stupid.”

Two words, "duck tape". Lovely product placement.
Was way too obvious who bad guys would be.
For a billionaire, some shitty cyber security. Guess couldn't afford a firewall. Typical BS!
This movie reminds me Die Hard but I think Die Hard much better than this.
But this movie is also good if you like the action movies.
And I thought that the latest ”Fast & Furious” was bad.
This was exactly the over the top action movie I was expecting. My only disappointment was the absence of funny lines (I noticed only one!) for which The Rock is known.
The fun begins when, to give some "difficulty" to The Rock's actions, when they take a leg off it. But even so, in this mix of Hard to Kill with any other robbery movie you've ever seen, the movie entertains - as long as you embark on the journey - and does its job of just showing that Dwayne Johnson can really hold any movie with his charisma.
Another highlight is a missing Neve Campbell, who shows that she is fit and ready to face a new mask killer.
Disappointing. Really had some high hope for this one but it was okay.
Why did I watch this to completion lol. Hardcore procrastination. Like one of the other people said. I knew what I was getting. So what else did I expect.
Action-filled, entertaining and a bit cheesy. All I expected from this movie. A very pleasant viewing experience!
I enjoyed this movie. I watched it on a whim and thought it was pretty good. It was full of action and the spectacular building was rather interesting.
This was a commercial for Duct Tape. Not a good one, either.
After having seen the trailer and after hearing all the critics I wouldn't have watched this movie. I thought it would be stupid and boring, without much action and totally unbelievable due to the total disregard of physics.
I must say that after watching it anyways (I got the Blu-ray due to a coincidence) I was actually pretty impressed. Yes it doesn't reinvent the wheel, yes it's not a Die Hard, and yes, there are scenes that are laughable due to the afore mentioned disregard for physics. But in general, this is actually a pretty decent action movie - it's not full of jokes and stupid one-liners, it has some decent acting and it is pretty thrilling most of the times, and has some really clever ideas, beside the obvious crane jump for which you needn't study physics to know that it's totally absurd. It's still good for a laugh though and other than that, this movie was good fun.
If you like simple action movies, if you don't expect the next "Die Hard", "John Wick" or "Equalizer" but are also content with simple movies, this is one of the better ones worth a watch. Really. I've seen far stupid (e.g. that really horrible Die Hard 4.0).
Not much to be seen here besides a typical Dwanye Johnson action flick with a little copy of Die Hard no reason to watch unless you have a Dwanye Johnson fetish or something.
There's a reason why this film doesn't fall down like some ill-played game of Jenga, and that is because Dwayne plays it relatively staight. Without his usual tongue in cheek schtick - those flexing muscles and that raised eyebrow - he actually pulls off a commendable performance, and gives a dumb movie some credibility. For this reason I also enjoyed the film - it was silly fun - so I hope Dwayne reaches these heights more often, away from such rubbish as Rampage and Central Intelligence.
It was a very good action movie, actually. I like Dwayne Johnson, and I got what I came for. Some of the scenes at the high places were really scary, so that was good. Overall a great afternoon movie.
It's another generic movie with The Rock so you get what you get. Punches, action, guns, explosions, no sex and organized crime. The plot isn't anything that will keep you thinking for hours on end. At some point in the movie I did drift off thinking about how this is the second time Dwayne has a daughter in a movie and the child has curly hair. I wonder if he requests this...
You can easily see what's about to happen next. I think the only thing that surprised me was the fact that his wife in the movie was also a 'soldier'. I enjoyed Hannah Quinlivan's performance as one of the protagonist. In some cases she did seem a bit too OP, but it's a generic action movie so who cares.
Call the boys over on a Sunday, grab a few beers, order a pizza, sit back and enjoy.
P.S. The thing that really had me hooked during the movie... when the 'hero' was just willing to climb out of a window and balance himself on a thin rail. Basically any scene with heights involved had me holding my breath.
to me it was a mixture of all die hard movies except for xmas! but it was good one-ish . some thrilling moments especially when he jumped into the building that made me jump, felt my heart gonna come out lol. definitely a movie to pass your week-end on for sure.
Well, if you are a fan of The Rock this is a decent enough high octane action, disaster and special effects movie. If not, well then you probably have to be a pretty big fan of special effects and action to overlook its weak points.
Let’s start with the good stuff. One, it is The Rock (yes I am a fan) although he certainly doesn’t come out at his best in this movie. Personally I could do without the artificial leg crap but it didn’t bother me too much in the end. It didn’t really add anything except some silly (and unrealistic scenes) though.
Then we have the action and the special effects. They were as good as you would expect from a multi million dollar action movie. At least I enjoyed them. I really liked the design of the Skyscraper. I thought it was booth cool and beautiful. I kind of would like to see it built in real life.
Was the movie derivative? Well of course it can be said to be derivative! How many movies with burning Skyscrapers and bad guys hi-jacking them can you make before it becomes derivative after all? The first movie named Skyscraper was made in 1928 for Christ sake. It didn’t bother me at all.
Now for the not so good. The movie was hugely predictable. I mean, you could tell who the bad guys were from the first scene they were in. Especially the rat faced jerk Mr Pierce. The main bad guy? Well, he was no Hans Gruber that’s for sure. More like a common thug. The movie really lacked a bad guy with some charisma. Overall, most of the movie from start to finish was really a no-surprise-there event from the first bad guy entering the scene to the rebooting of the systems.
Then we have the realism factor. I do not expect an action and special effects movie to be realistic but there are some limits. Sawyer climbing around on the outside of the building (with one leg remember) in the updraft from 50 or so burning levels was just nonsense. Also, a building burning that much and that long and yet all the electrical wiring and plumbing still working was a bit too much. The absolutely worst offence though was how everyone magically survived sitting in the middle of the fire being extinguished by the release of halon gas (or some equivalent). That just brings stupidity (or maybe laziness) in script writing to a whole new level.
So, to sum it up, this move could have been a lot better. To me it was saved by The Rock and my love of special effects loaded action movies.
Wow. Just... Wow. What a thrilling, action filled ride this was. To say I was on the edge of my couch throughout the entire movie would be a blatant understatement. Although I've spoken to people who speak of resemblance to Die Hard (1988), the only similarities that I could find were the scene; a building that has been overrun and taken hostage. I personally believe, after watching it only one time thus far, that this has set itself apart from Die Hard. Anyway. The quality of special effects used in this movie is second to none, they are jaw-dropping and I was never left disappointed. The story line is weak, and I felt unfulfilled with some of the character's depth, in particular, Sarah (Neve Campell) and Will (Dwayne Johnson) The two child actors (Mckenna Roberts & Noah Cottrell) were fantastic. If I had to have one gripe with the movie, it was the abrupt ending. Although short and acceptable for an action thriller, I just felt discarded with the ten minute ending.
This was truly an awful movie. When things got resolved by just clicking on a tablet, it was beyond disbelief. When a tower burns, the material with it gets destroyed, all wires and everything. Totally unbelievable.
A mildly entertaining way to spend an hour and a half with The Rock. It's big, not clever, but silly and fun. Made me smile! 6/10
The character of The Rock is the hero of the day (for the promotional, because in fact the whole movie takes place at night) able to do everything just with one leg! Ethan Hunt and James Bond are a pair of assholes in the face of the incredible feats of Will Sawyer in this nasty film adored by the "popcorn" masses that only go to the cinema to entertain themselves and pass the time.
It's nothing extraordinary or new, but it's a decent enough time waster for a rainy afternoon. While it's all been done before, The Rock is good in the role and brings a few fresh nuances to parts of it.
It seems an exclusive for the Chinese market.
I like the rock, but not every movie this man plays in are good.
I feel like Hollywood is rushing movies out just to cash in on Dwayne's recent popularity regardless if the movie is actually good or not.
The studio is so anxious to put out a movie starring Dwayne Johnson that they don't spend enough time on the CGI to even make it look realistic.
A great big silly action blockbuster. Not as much fun as The Meg, not as face-palmingly stupid as Mission Impossible 6. I think it was missing humour.
I'd score it 4 on the Die Hard scale.
1 / 2 directing & technical aspect
0 / 1 story
1 / 1 act I
1 / 1 act II
1 / 1 act III
1 / 1 acting
0 / 1 writing
0 / 1 originality
0 / 1 stays with you
-1 / 1 misc (forgot I even watched it)
4 out of 10
Good thing it wasn't made of steel or it might have collapsed and disintegrated into a cloud of dust.
The Rock delivers. Fun watch
in the 80s Bruce Willis saved brunch of hostages from a 60 stories exploding scraper;
And now 2018 the rock save bunch of people from a 200 stories designer's tv tower;
well staying in this course by 2037 we probably need movie heros to climb a freakin Saturn 500 and reach the international space station. With duct tapes of course.
Looks like a remake of die hard
Interesting that the whole event became almost like a PPV for the crowd watching. I loved their sudden cheers, gasps ect. Makes me think twice about how tragedies are portrayed on the news at times.
The whole movie, All I could think was "Die hard" A good watch..
typical action movie involving The Rock, and as usual, you don,t go into it expecting Shakespeare, even if some of the things that The Rock does defy the laws of gravity and physics at times. i was actually rolling my eyes at one point at how he constantly cheated death. you get what you pay for i guess, or not in my case
It’s a typical and very predictable action movie. Kuddos to the Rock for having a great couple of years with all his success.
The trailer to the movie really sums it up. No need to go to the restroom; come back and ask “ did I miss anything?” LOL. No Oscar winners here.... and no surprises.
Do bad guys stand a chance against The Rock and Sidney Prescott ? Of course not. Predictable and cliche but it will entertain you.
Raftim cinama 4D ba omid va elahe khanoom
I thought that it would be more disaster movie, but it showed up that this is the common action movie about the greatness of the prosthesis over the man. ;)
If you join Die Hard 1 with The Towering Inferno, this film comes out. It is inferior to them but it is entertaining, and it gives what it promises
This Film felt like the most expensive DuckTape commercial
Less fun, and more action than I expected, but still a great ridiculous Rock movie.
This film is really good old fashioned entertainment. Part action thriller, part disaster film, part sci fi ... it's a wild mix of fun and action. If you are afraid of heights, as I now realize I must be, you may even come out of your seat on occasion. Fun film and should be seen on the biggest screen possible. 8/10
If I had to pick one word to describe this film, it would be "lazy". I understand we're deep into summer movie session at this point and Skyscraper is made to be a summer popcorn flick -- I love summer popcorn flicks. But, the film is just so lazy in everything it does that it is no fun. Not even Dwayne Johnson's charisma can save this one. At some point Johnson's character remarks, "This is stupid" and I couldn't agree more.

Reading comments here are funny. People winning but still they watched the movie. Life is short. Go get something done. Like the Rock. Making this movie and make something.
Trying to find original? Go and make one.
