Slumber Party Massacre 2021

This is part of my 2022 HORROR Fridays

So...Slumber Party Massacre managed to surprise me. I was so ready to rip this one apart. I usually never like when someone remakes a movie just to try and "update" it to whatever "norms" they subscribe to, but this was actually far enough removed from the original to be something of its own. This is now a fun cabin thing, with stupid females trying to be something they are not, and even stupider boys...well...being stupid. It's not even predictable, as the utter stupidity keeps things fresh.

So if it's fun and unpredictable, why aren't I rating it higher?!?

Well...because it fails as a slasher. The kills are boring, and some even happens off-screen. There are a couple that are kind of nice, but still...there's very little real mayhem here.

So where does that leave Slumber Party Massacre 2021?!?

An ok little romp in the woods you can take your significant other to watch without them complaining too much about your unhealthy obsession with gory horror movies.

A really nice return to Slumber Party Massacre with some decent kills and the usual subnarrative. Really enjoyed all the references to the originals with the Space Baby t-shirt and the drill guitar. However, as with most modern media, the subtlety is all but destroyed and everything is said straight and ham-fistedly so Twitter will definitely get it.

Fairly enjoyable slasher with some fun twists on the genre, a bit on the nose at times but that is par for the course

There was a slumber party and a massacre.

This reimagining of "Slumber Party Massacre" is a thoroughly creative slasher parody that, in some places, turns gender stereotypes on their heads and thus occasionally provides food for thought. The film may not be great art, but the likeable actresses ensure a high level of entertainment. However, don't expect anything too serious. Furthermore, the film lost me near the end; the transition to the finale could have been a little smoother. But I definitely recommend "Slumber Party Massacre". People who have already seen many representatives of the genre will discover quite a few references to other films and classic tropes.

Ok, who allowed you it to be so hilarious? And why I never stumbled across this movie before? It was truly a fun ride between an old campy slasher and a modern horror comedy with unique ideas and cool twists. Absolutely bonkers! The pillow fight scene LMAO! But for real it is kinda what you wish for but can be sometimes a bit too goofy. Nevertheless, even without seeing the original one, I arrogate that this is a very well-made remake/reboot/sequel. The music was awesome, the cast was great, and the overall tone arrived in the 21st century.

If you wanna watch a horror flick that isn't actually a horror flick (you know what I mean) there are better ones with IMDb rating much lower. This was fkn trash, even the actual picture is not enjoyable, not a single frame

Like an avocado: starts off pretty good but goes bad in record time.

I'm admittedly not familiar with the source material, but found the first two acts of this comedy slasher rather refreshing.

The role reversals in the shower scene and pillow fight were fun, but quickly forgotten when the third act plunged the entire film into the cliché ridden morass that is misogynistic horror.

The young women are once again reduced to idiotic squeal bags who caterwaul into each other during their hysterical breakdowns, thus making it their fault when any random killer in the vicinity kills them practically out of pity.

This film was all the more frustrating in that it looked like it had the keys before proving it hadn't unlocked any secrets.

On the plus side, this manages to subvert expectations. But despite a few original twists and turns, it doesn't stand out in the slasher genre.

This honestly took me by surprise! Highly enjoyable slasher with some nods to the original while still doing it's own thing. Easily the best slasher of the year! It's filled with surprises and some good amount of cheese and gore. Also a lot more creative that I expected and it's surprisingly meta. The kills are all excellent, the performances are all great, an absolute blast from start to end.

Definitely worth watching. It has an interesting plot twist that very few even came close to guessing. Surprises at every turn.
