This movie was everything for me back in my childhood
Ohhhhh noooo....Smurf out!!!!..Gargamel has unleashed his giant black pussy ehhhhhhhh cat
I loved Smurfs back In childhood before school, It was one of the cartoons that got me up the morning, not the fact that I had school. I didn't like the first two movies maybe because they were live action/animation poor as the live action of the (Alvin And The Chipmunks) but they've up'd they blue in this one with making It full animation and putting the blue Into a different light.
Due to the live action versions being quite bad, no one expected much from this version. However it is more smurfy and more like the animated series from the 80's. Since they're actually in their own land throughout. Being magically transported to New York and then Paris, was just stupid.
There's just a strange dirty joke thrown in when Papa Smurf (Mandy Patinkin) and Smurfwillow (Julia Roberts) are trapped in a cage together. He says "time to rock the cage" and she says "don't make it weird." Although, my 13 yr old niece and I laughed hysterically at that. While Rain Wilson's Gargamel is so hyperactive you'd think Jim Carrey was voicing him.
Otherwise the voice actors are better than the cast from the other films. It's especially funny that Gordan Ramsy talks for Baker Smurf despite rarely being shown. While of course Michelle Rodriguez talks for the tough girl smurf named Smurfstorm. Jack McBrayer is probably the best cast as Clumsy.
While not as good as the show. Smurfs: The Lost Village is at least superior to the Neil Patrick Harris films. Well due to actually being watchable.
I liked this movie. It was fun and sweet and heartwarming. I loved Hefty so, so much. The way he shows his feelings for Smurfette without being ashamed was adorable. The animation was good and the voiceover actors were perfect, but I still think Hank Azaria should have voiced Gargamel. I watched this movie right after watching Smurfs and the accent difference was a bit jarring. In spite of that, Gargamel's character was hilarious.
Not bad but the ending sucked and brought it way down
A stunning adventure, especially in 3D, this is a technical and imaginative tour de force. Can't wait for the sequels... oh, sorry wrong film! This isn't James Camerons flight of fancy. Instead, it's a tiresome animated film that kids will surely tire of. The early Smurf cartoons were very good... this is a pointless update that offers little value for anybody, except the most undemanding of children.
I am coming out of the closet. I am a huge Smurfs fan. This movie is true to the Smurfs franchise. Danny Pudi did a wonderful job as Brainy Smurf and as usual Asreal carried the movie. That cat is the best thing in Smurfdom, its witty, and hillarious and the best reason to watch this movie. The Buzzard is a welcome addition, and this new Gargamel grew on me. My main issue with the movie was the fact that they only used a small portion of the original Smurfs.

Animation alone is a beautiful sight to see, but it cannot hold a film up on its own. That's what Smurfs: The Lost Village tries to disprove, but it proves it all over again. The colorful environments are a joy to look at, from the Smurf Village to the Forbidden Forest. Sony Pictures Animation does a fantastic job with the movements of each character, making it seem like it's a wacky cartoon you would see on television, but not sacrificing smooth transitions.
When it comes to characters, however, the film starts to go downhill from there. Hefty, Brainy, Clumsy, and even Smurfette each have a quirk to them, but when that quirk is put in their names, it makes them generic. Show, don't tell. I also think that the villain, Gargamel, is your generic wizard villain with little-to-no interesting actions out of him whatsoever. Smurfette, by the way, is what I would call a Mary Sue. She's talented in whatever she wants to be talented in given the situation, she's loved by all of the Smurfs except for the villain who created her, and when something really bad happens to her, the Smurfs all cry and bring her back to life through the power of love, which is not explained. She may have a great design, but her character is as generic as it gets.
I also do not like the soundtrack. Putting songs in a movie that has lyrics describing what is going on is the complete opposite of what I said before: Show, don't tell. There is even an obvious song choice in there which I won't say what it is, but if you have been on the internet long enough to learn a song about blue, you'll know what I'm referring to.
Overall, while this movie has gorgeous animation, everything else drags it down. It is a fair film, and if you are a Smurfs fan, it is a decent film for you. Keep your expectations low, and don't be blue.
