Science fiction without science. Obviously the guy who wrote this picked some cool words like Bose-Einstein condensate and, not having a clue what it really meant, invented a story. Could have been ok anyway if the movie hadn't been boring most of the time. The "ghosts" looked quite cool though.
A scientist who works for DARPA, teams with a group of tougher-than-nails (of course) soldiers to battle an army of supernatural entities in some war torn country overseas. The scientist is apparently the long lost son of MacGyver because he manages to build "plasma" weapons from a supply drop into a refugee's camp. He also turns a one-of-a-kind night vision camera into a night vision spotlight with an inexhaustible power source. I'm not an Electrical or Mechanical Engineer but the things that this do-it-yourself-er comes up with are impossible. He single-handedly changes the future of military weaponry in an afternoon. And the worst part is that it's all done with the utmost of seriousness. Not a wink or a smirk anywhere that would acknowledge how ridiculous the entire affair is.
I thought that the premise of an army of ghosts was dumb but the way that they came to be in the war-torn crap hole of a country was intriguing. And although I didn't care what happened to the characters, I thought it ended properly. In other words, the scientist and the lady CIA agent didn't forget their disagreements, get hitched and adopt Newt...er, I mean, the little girl that they find in the city.
This is a very average sci-fi, typical of a netflix production (although it is not as it was rejected by studios for theatrical release). Decent visuals, mediocre story and plot. Remind me of "The Darkest Hour".Solid 5
There's just one very big problem with the plot of this movie if the solution for the spectral problem was as simple as unplug the machine, why then once they have discovered the source they didn't picked up a sat phone, called for a airstrike to drop 4/5 M.O.A.B on that building or a nuke all would be destroyed there would be no more machine and the spectral problem would be gone and they would not have wasted so many life's fighting an unnecessary last battle.
Filme B sólido. Boa produção, atuações, respeita a audiências e quase não há clichês. O final eleva o filme para um terror interessante e inédito. No geral gostei muito.
Solid B movie. Great production, action, respect the audience and almost no cliches. The end elevates all to some fresh terror implications. Liked a lot.
I remember around the initial release of this film, the general noise floating around was that it was just a bit rubbish.
Having seen the film, that criticism seems a little heavy-handed and unfair given that the film is perfectly fine. It is an action film with an interesting twist, held together by a loose sci-fi mechanism that tries far too hard to be convincing.
(A pretty basic rule of science-fiction is not to just mix up a bunch of real science terms to pretend and pretend it is something utterly unrelated to those science terms)
But, for all its faults, tropes, and corniness, it was still a fun action movie which didn't overstay its welcome.
Also, no stupid, hamfisted romance that is completely unbelievable. So that is appreciated.
Not a bad movie for a bunch of nobodies.
One of the best SCI FI film this 2018 i've enjoyed the mystery the effects the characters and the story .. Yes they took some story elements from FINAL FANTASY SPIRITS WITHIN with the idea of Phantoms just twist it a little bit to become scientific and more realistic but all in all i'm entertained .. I don't ask a lot from movies and don't nit pick too much all i want is a good movie where i can have fun .. Highly recommend and so far i love most of NETFLIX'S original movies not gonna lie ..
Explosions, Sci-Fi and Action. It's enjoyable to watch and doesn't require too much thought. It's well made, and you're never quite sure what's behind everything which continues right up until the end. Don't give it too much thought and you'll enjoy it!
It´s Sci-Fi, it´s action - nothing more, nothing less. Yet very entertaining if you like that stuff. Effects are really good, the whole look of the movie is on the spot. The story is interesting, I don´t think this has been done before. Not a mega cast but faces you remember from lots of TV/movie who deliver a good performance. I´d say this doesn´t have to hide.
And as far as plot holes or logical issues are concerned - has anyone counted the ones in the Marvel movies ;-) ?
A Netflix Original movie that is genuinely original. It doesn't make a lot of sense but the special effects and committed playing of its cast paper over the gaps in the story. A step in the right direction for Netflix without an Adam Sandler or Kevin James in sight.
This is my type of SyFy movie, action packed with a few twists and turns! If your into science fiction then this movie is a must watch. The characters are great and the story is pretty good, and it feels more like a theatrical release then a normal Netflix movie, but they did good bringing it to screen and adds to their line up. Great special effects, a few gaps in the story but nothing you can't overlook with the great action. Hopefully Netflix keeps going in this direction, I for one enjoyed it.
Netflix again brings a alright film, something different, with a not well know okayish cast, full of fast based action, but don't know where the script was going half of the time thought.. but it paid off.. every enemy has a weakness... give it a go... each for their own XD
Who would've thought that one of the best SciFi Action movies of the year would come from Netflix? Well, in the future we might consider that more and more if this is anything to go by. Sure, the movie had a few minor issues but overall it was a pretty well directed romp, decently acted & with even a semi believable/scientifically sound premise and some top-notch visuals. Certainly enjoyed this one and will keep my fingers crossed for more quality material like this from Netflix, they've had a good year IMO.
Well, they could have nuked it instead of disabling it manually, lol!
Science fiction, action and somewhat a thriller/horror. It deliveres what it promises in a light-hearted slightly Lovecraftian horror way.
No loose ends wrap everything quite nicely.
tldr; An excellent move when you want an action with a bit of horror.
At the end I got "Infinity War" flashbacks
I like this more than Spiderman Far from home. The latter is a waste of time.
This feels like a Netflix assignment to some writers. Rec 2 and Aliens are very popular on our service, but so are ghost and paranormal movies. Can you combine them together? This is what you got. The result is okay, but will never be a classic...it's just too derivative to truly feel like it is its own film. Strong action and pacing, though, make for a compelling view...just don't expect to think about once it is done. (BTW, IMDB had the budget at $70M...if that is true, you don't get much for that money anymore.) 7/10
Well yeah, there are a few plot holes, so what? Name one movie that doesn't! I think it's really an interesting and original movie, something new that hasn't been done before...
Apart from that, it's fascinating; unkillable ghosts, a lot of action and killing, lazer beam guns, amazing effects , future technology etc etc
Bel film ottima regia attiri ed effetti speciali anche la trama è avvincente. Consigliato
Struggling against spectral beings, entertaining, different, has not been wrong
one of the worst films i have ever watched.

My business requires us to prove them. Your technician's job is to find glitches, so, he sees glitches. Your job is to find the enemy, so, you see the enemy. Locals believe in spirits, so they see spirits. Everyone is biased in one way or another. So, my answer to you right now is that we lack data to support any theory.
A great movie very entertaining
As others have already pointed out the acting and the writing are just decent. Nothing really bad but also nothing really good.
But the overall look of the film is great IMO. The sets look fantastic, the effects are pretty good and the action scenes are fun.
In a day when most sci-fi flicks belong on the sci-fi channel, it was refreshing to watch something new and different...sure it has its problems but what a cool movie regardless
this was a interesting film
That was better than expected. As with Sci-Fi, not everything will add up but they make a decent attempt to fill plot holes. Definitely a win for Netflix, again.
Decent Sci-Fi movie. Good action, enjoyed the story. Some plot holes, but if you shove those aside it's well worth a watch.
This is pretty good sci-fi.

It's not exactly a 'Netflix-Original'. Started out as a joint production between Universal and Legendary Films with a budget of 70-million. After completion, Universal wasn't happy with it, Legendary didn't like their feedback and they had a falling out -- the planned 2016 summer theatrical release was canceled. Chinese-owned Legendary Films shopped around, Netflix picked it up as an already finished movie and branded it a 'Netflix-Original'.
Not awful. Competent, experienced cast; OK story and decent effects contribute to a production that had some budget to work with. A few plot-holes here and there, like beings that can fly over things, yet laying iron shavings on the ground provides a barrier of protection because they can't step in it. Contrived ending, and, so what if they kinda-sorta borrowed a central plot mechanism from the 1995 anime movie "Ghost in the Shell" https://trakt.tv/movies/ghost-in-the-shell-1995 -- it's an enjoyable watch... :-)
