Speed 1994

20 years old and still thrilling film!

Speed is one of my favorite action movies of all time, just a notch below contemporaries like Terminator 2 and Die Hard. The premise is so simple that it's almost a parody of movie pitches (Homer Simpson's line was "I saw this movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode! I think it was called 'The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down'."). Fortunately this film came to be much better than the sum of its parts, and it's deservedly remembered as one of the most entertaining films of the 90s.

Turns out this is actually a real fun movie. I liked it as a kid but growing I started to remember it as a bad film but rewatching it now I'm having a blast.

I've not not seen this since it first came out and I was surprised and delighted at how well it stands up today. A great action thriller with a sprinkling of 90's cheese. Loved watching it again and would recommend.

This aged just a bit better than I'd remembered, although admittedly I didn't have the fondest recollections of it. In essence it's a nonstop barrage of action clichés that doesn't try to step out of its own way, choosing instead to embrace the stereotypes and come up with a few new ones along the way.

Keanu Reeves appears at his most wooden while Sandra Bullock is still finding her sea legs as an actress, but the two still manage some level of incalculable chemistry that makes you pull for them through thick and thin. In many ways, their relationship is a great analogy for the film as a whole - generic and ham-fisted, you've seen it a thousand times before but for some inexplicable reason you're still perched on the edge of your seat for the duration. Dennis Hopper is noteworthy as the preposterously over-the-top mad bomber; he serves up several great lines that sent me backwards through decades' worth of pop culture nostalgia. Mindless fun that knows its place.

Honestly the only action movie that I think is better than this is Die Hard. And that's a hard feat to beat, so...

Was absolutely captivated the whole movie, had no idea where it was going to go, even though at the end in hindsight it looked pretty obvious. But damn! This was great. On the edge of my seat the whole time

Story...8/10. Proof that sometimes all you need is a simple, one-sentence plot to get things going.
Dialogue...7/10. Surprisingly few bad lines. Also no real memorable ones.
Performances...8/10. All the leads nail it, I think. The bus crew is weak.
Misc...9/10. Such a well-paces movie, especially for an action flick. Great sound and cool editing.
Overall...8/10. One of the best pure action movies of the last 30 years. Die Hard on a bus!

Ahh! the classic film that catapulted Keanu Reeves to superstardom.

.Just an overall classic 90’s action film that should be watched by everyone.

Speed is an old-school action movie, with real explosions, stunt doubles and scenes full of adrenaline, nothing to do with today's action cinema, which is full of CGI with blue screen. That is what makes Speed a beloved movie, even though the plot is very bad and the story is full of plot holes.

The Best , Nice Movie Great

Watched this movie countless times in my childhood

I watched it for the first time as a teenager and was impressed. I'm still in this feeling, it's rare for a movie to keep you so suspenseful until the end, even if you already know the plot.

surprised this sits at a 7.4 (at time of writing). It's at least an 8.1 for me. So much joy in every scene (in an action genre sense).

This built upon Terminator 2 as The 90's Action Movie and... more than that... paved the way for The Matrix: Reloaded (Trinity highway scene, anyone?). I may be biased as a Keanu and Sandra fan, but after what is (embarrassingly) my first watch, I really loved it!

Is it silly? Sure, but that's balanced by how hard it hits, yk?

Jaguar owner: "Whoa, shit! Whoa, SHIIIITT!"

I remember watching this as a kid and loving it, still do. It's 90s action at it's best, thrilling from start to finish. The elevator, the bus, the train... the set pieces are all so memorable and fun. It does an excellent job at maintaining it's energy throughout. It gets a bit ridiculous, unrealistic and over-the-top at times but I really don't mind sinse it's great action. A couple of silly funny one-liners too. Nothing special for the performances but everyone's good. Nice thrilling score. Impressive explosion sequences. They don't make action movies like these anyone, one of my favorites!

"Speed" offers a high-octane action-packed experience, but I give it a 3/5. It's heavy on action, but what's enjoyable is watching the characters create solutions to the problems they face, adding an extra layer of excitement to the film. It's a wild ride, even if it might be a bit over the top at times. :bus::boom::clapper:

Speed embodies much of what was wrong with cinema in the 90's; which is partly why I like it. The acting is cheesy, the action is corny, but it's still a good time.

Speed is a thrilling crime movie with an original and gripping plot. While the acting may not be the strongest aspect of the film, the action and suspense more than make up for it. From the explosive opening scene to the nail-biting finale, Speed keeps you wondering what will happen next.

It’s clearly one of those post-Die Hard films that tries to replicate the success of Die Hard, and it’s probably the one that does it best.
The creativity is all in the concept, and the execution is fantastic.
They squeeze every idea you can think of out of this concept.
It’s action heavy, tense all the way through, the stuntwork is well filmed and edited and you care just enough about the characters, though they could’ve been a little deeper (especially the villain, who kinda lacks a good motivation).
Its biggest problem is clearly the acting: Sandra Bullock and Dennis Hopper are fine, but Keanu and especially the supporting cast on the bus kinda suck.
Still, it’s a classic, and you should watch it.

Despite its flaws it still manages to grab your attention and keep hold of it until the very end.

Still an excellent film. Adrenaline kicks in and it barely lets up.

Have to say though that Dennis Hopper stinks the screen up. Jeff Daniels is a slightly better turn but even he is far from the same actor who excelled in The Newsroom two decades later.

A classic action movie. Still enjoyable to this day.

Rewatching Speed at 50 mph is still fantastic. It has non-stop action, a great Dennis Hopper villain, a great Jeff Daniels partner, Keanu as a bloody action star, Sandra Bullock as one hell of a bus driver, Grand Theft Auto stunts, it is a film that will knock your head off.

It is one of the best action films that is not starring Arnold Schwarzenegger of the 90's. The only problem I have with it is that the last 15 minutes drag on a bit. But other than that, you can never go wrong putting on Jan de Bont's Speed!

Not all of the acting is perfect. The best performances are probably from Hopper, Bullock and Jeff Daniels.
Keanu mostly just handles the action well. He was better off with no lines lol. But hey he was way better than some of actors playing bus passengers. Hopper is over the top but makes an entertaining villain.

Unoriginal film, but with a good final result.

Pop quiz hotshot: Who doesn't like explosions, action and drama? Who likes riding the bus? Well this movie packages an intense bus ride, where the bus can't slow down....or it's gonna blow with the drama of finding the bad guy and defusing the bomb.

A classic good vs bad vs LA traffic with the odd one liner and edge of your seat thrills.

I think I'll be driving from now on
