I really enjoyed "Speed Racer". I'd never seen any of the cartoons so going in this thing was a blank canvas to me. I had read the trashing of the movie by most critics and theater goers, and I have to say that I totally disagree with their opinions.

"Speed Racer" is so visually different and striking that I totally fell for it. This movie is a big bowl full of M&Ms. It makes you happy just looking at it; sweet and colorful to the extreme.

All of the Racer family members were lovable characters and the actors that portrayed them did excellent work. The story is actually pretty involving, and the racing scenes are fantastic and beautiful to look at. I would rate "Speed Racer" even higher if I wasn't just a little apprehensive about the amount of crap I'm bound to take for even rating it as highly as I have. This movie deserves more love.

It was 100% ahead of its time. Watch it now and I think many people would be able to appreciate just how fantastically and beautifully this was made. It's brilliant and inspired.

The Wachowskis pull out every green screen trick in the book for this glowing block of candy-colored nostalgia, draped in the wallpaper of a classic '60s anime. The whole thing functions more like an experiment than a film, a proof of concept gone bad, staffed by several well-regarded stars, that somehow grinds on for 135 minutes. It's like sharing a daydream with a hyperactive six-year-old on a sugar rush. There's so much going on at any given time, so many violent splashes of jagged colors and wildly animated background details, that a complete viewing can feel downright exhausting.

The tech doesn't even appear to be there yet, either; the whole mess comes off as clumsy and awkward, a mismatched wreck that conflicts and clashes with itself. One post-race attempt to recreate Speed's fluid leap from his moving race car, landing right in a dynamic signature pose (a staple of the old cartoon's title sequence), is so corny and improbable I couldn't help bursting into laughter. An utterly baffling film that deserves every bit of infamy it's accumulated. How did they pull this off with a straight face?

Well that is how you make anime with real actors. Only thing missing was upskirt pantyshots :D

Reminds me more of Hot wheels than Speed Racer sadly. I think that is the only downside to this movie. it's def beautifully shot though. the cartoon like transitions are amazing.

If I could give it less than 1 star I would. It looks like it was shot on a Hot Wheels track. It is a discredit to the anime

Well it's definitely not fun to look at, but I suppose the puke candy colored scenes and endless green screen around every turn are reminiscent of the cartoon? Also why is this thing over 2 hours?

Hands down, one of the ugliest and headache inducing films I’ve ever seen.

Speed Racer

I haven't had acid, but I expect this is similar to the experience.
It's filled with hammy acting, hard to follow action and constantly made me reevaluate my life choices.
But somehow I got invested in the plot with the Anti-Corporate theme.

4/10

Often feels like Speed Racer in an episode of Lazy Town. Speed Racer still in under-rated. The Wackowskis formally known as brothers do a fine job bringing anime to the big screen. Dragonball would have been in better hands if they did it.
Still, not all of their approach works and you might get bored of it's non-stop energy by the middle of it.
