I had great hopes for Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones after the let down of Episode I. I thought that it would get better but it ended up being even worse.
I was expecting to see how Anakin Skywalker developed his training and how he finally became a Jedi. I guess that would have been interesting to see. George Lucas was more concerned about creating one of the worst love stories in cinema! Anakin and Padmé's love story seems so forced! Their scenes together were supposed to be romantic but in fact they bored me a lot. Also their dialogues, well all dialogues in the film are absolutely terrible!
Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman had no chemistry! Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman are two great actors but this plot couldn't do nothing for their performances, poor guys. Hayden Christensen is just bad, very bad. They should have chosen another actor to play the role.
Yoda is still awesome!
THE WACPINE OF ‘STAR WARS: EPISODE II – ATTACK OF THE CLONES’
WRITING: 2
ATMOSPHERE: 4
CHARACTERS: 2
PRODUCTION: 4
INTRIGUE: 3
NOVELTY: 5
ENJOYMENT: 4
The Good:
Christopher Lee is never bad in anything, and he brings much-needed experience and authority to this film.
The Jar Jar Binks scenes have been cut to a minimum.
The Geonosis sequence is long, but it's rewarding. The mega-battle at the arena and the duel with Dooku are high punts of the film. We finally see multiple Jedi in action.
The Bad:
Let's get this straight. Hayden Christensen is atrociously awful from his first scene until his last scene in Revenge of the Sith. He is the definition of wooden, terrible and unnatural.
Natalie Portman is marginally better when compared to the phantom menace, but only when she is not forced to speak more than two lines.
I'm annoyed by how plastic-y and fake the surroundings look most of the time. The original trilogy and sequel trilogy managed to capture the gritty, flashy and futuristic much better, by mostly relying on partial effects and sets.
George Lucas cannot write dialogue. The lines he gives to his character, the leading ones, in particular, are so unnatural that not even a skilled actor like Ewan McGregor could pull them off without sounding overly theatrical or wooden.
George Lucas cannot write a compelling story, with drama, romance, comedy and action. Most of what he has written falls apart, either intentionally or because the actors cannot deliver what he wants without looking stupid. Lucas' world-building serves no real purpose and his secondary characters are just unnecessary chess pieces on an overstuffed chessboard.
Obi-Wan and Anakin's relationship is at the centre of the film, and it's terrible. Anakin is whiney and erratic and Obi-Wan is patient with him for no reason at all. It's pretty much given that Anakin goes and ruins everything with his childish tantrums.
What hurts me most is how Lucas has ruined Anakin's journey, He goes from bad to worse in no time, and we never see that true fall from grace that we had hoped for. He is annoying from the start.
This is also e of the stupidest political plots I've ever seen in anything. How could everyone be so stupid that they don't realize that Palpatine is slowly taking power?
The film is too long. By the time we arrive at the endgame, I'm already feeling fatigued.
Christopher Lee wasn't fit for lightsaber duels at age 80, which unfortunately shows since his presence during the final battle is very stiff whenever he's not replaced by his stunt double. The final battle lacks any of the epicness from the first film's climactic showdown.
The Ugly:
Obi-Wan is pretty stupid. He had to see Yoda realize that Kamino was deleted from the planetary archive. A little child could see that. Come on!
Oh.
AND I DON'T LIKE SAND!
WACPINE RATING: 3.43 / 10 = 1,5 stars
Let's get the good out of the way first. Christopher Lee does his best with the nothing he's given, fitting genuine affability and remorse where he can. McGregor is better as Obi-Wan even if it'll still take him one more movie to really feel comfortable in the role. "Good job!' is genuinely funny.
That's it for the good. Phantom Menace could at least entertain some kids for a few hours, even if it probably wouldn't stick with them. This doesn't even have that. Lucas' directing hamstrings the cast, who can't be blamed for their wooden delivery. RD-D2 and C-3PO's comic relief does not fit in at all. Dex's Diner is an incredibly jarring shift. The film has no idea what it's trying to say or go for. The fights are just silly. The 'mystery', the chase sequence, and the droid factory sequence all go on for too long with no real excitement.
And the romance. Star Wars, in all of its films, has not had a single good romance. Not one that it's stuck with, at least (RIP to Finn and Rey, Finn and Poe, and Finn and Rose). This is the one movie in the franchise to focus primarily on it, and the result is abysmal. It literally starts with Padme telling Anakin he'll always be that little boy she knew on Tatooine. Not a great start! Combine that with the awkward and overwrought lines, the constrained acting, Anakin pursuing her even when she's made it clear she's uncomfortable with it, and the forgiveness of genocide, and you have a slog of a film. I can't even see kids having a fun time with this one, and that's the most damning slight of all.
I definitely think this is the worst of the prequels. Way too much whiny Anakin. It has some good moments, and it sets up The Clone Wars TV series very well, but there's just so much crap to wade through.
anakin skywalker a.k.a the worst bodyguard in the universe
Mediocrity at its finest. I miss the old practical effects.
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones’:
As a kid (I was 6 when I saw this for the first time), I still remember telling my dad when we left the cinema back in 2002: “that looked a little bit like Monsters Inc!”. Rewatching it with adult eyes makes me realize that my younger self was onto something, because yes: time has not been kind to this film. Movies from the same year, like The Two Towers or Chamber of Secrets, still hold up pretty well visually, because they didn’t attempt to do anything they knew they couldn’t do at the time. Oh, there are scenes with big spiders and a huge snake in the second Harry Potter book? No problem, we’ll use animatronics and set most of it in darkly lit sets in order to hide the details.
George Lucas, however, was more intent on pushing the technology forward, instead of thinking about how his film would age. As a result, it looks like you’re watching a dated Pixar film. If only it also sounded like one. The acting is absolutely atrocious, as well as unintentionally funny, because the dialogue that’s given to the actors doesn’t sound natural. The narrative is extremely boring, with the romantic subplot being the low point in the entire series. The only real positives in the film that I can think of are Ewan McGregor’s performance and John Williams’ score, and I suppose some of the action looks okay. Other than that, this is really hard to get through.
2.5/10
I'm really glad, I had good advice and started with the Original Trilogy. After Episode II, I most definitely would have given up on this series.
Nothing gets me more hot and bothered then when I'm on a romantic picnic with a guy at a scenic waterfall retreat and he tells me he supports a fascist regime.
What kind of red flags need to happen for Padme to be like, maybe this isn't the guy I thought he was? Wiping out an entire population doesn't seem to phaze her. But then again, she's sleeping with a guy she kind of was babysitting at one point.
Some weird shit happening in Star Wars
Attack of the Clones, the second installment of the prequel trilogy, had the potential to set the stage for the eventual fall of Anakin Skywalker and the rise of the Empire. While there were some positive elements to the film, such as Obi-Wan's investigation and duel with Jango Fett, and the dramatic storyline surrounding Anakin's mother and the Tusken Raiders, the overall execution of the movie falls short. The droid factory scene and the arena battle at the end were poorly executed and took away from the stakes of the story. Additionally, the dialogue and romance between Anakin and Padmé was poorly written and delivered, resulting in wooden performances from the actors. On the other hand, the visuals of the film were impressive, with new planets and environments adding to the spectacle. Overall, while there were some good ideas present, Attack of the Clones failed to fully capitalize on them and ultimately falls short of reaching its potential.

Has a few effective performances, a magnificent musical score and some impressive visuals, but nothing more beyond that. The storyline is all over the place, characters are lifeless and stiltedly-acted, the action ranges from too mundane to too over-choreographed, the effects work is distractingly fake throughout the entire movie, the dialogue is clunky and often over explains stuff, and the romance is an absolute travesty. The only thing it has above The Phantom Menace is less screen time for jar jar.
I genuinly dont know if the people that say they like the prequels is being serious. Like they seem genuine and when they explain it seems like they are explaining fucking 2001: a space oddysey, or the shinning or any terrence malick film. Yet no, they are talking about the prequels
Made with the soly intent of money, money and money.
Was it necesary to explain the past of one of the greatest villains of cinema?
No
Was it well explained?
No
Did it made sense?
No
Was making yoda a fucking bounce ball important, did it add anything, was it good?
Dont quote me on it, but no
Did the love story was good?
No
I could go on but i think you get the point.
Even as a star wars fan i cant reccomend it.
You can like it, but dont bullshit me saying is good.
I liked it better than the first one. I found the battles more interesting, the clone battle and the sable fights against Count Dooku, magnificently interpreted by Christopher Lee. I liked the action, the plot, the intrigues and the plot twist that created for next movies. For SW fans of course it was not a plot twist because the knew exactly what would come, but as a whole story I think it works great.
I didn't like the visual effects though, I found them cartoon-like and some characters seem exactly like cartoons.
Music is great as always but I think it is better used in this movie than in the previous one.
I had rated it 5 but now that I saw it again I changed to 7. Not taking Lee's performance into account, none of the actors are more than OK.
This movie was miles better than Episode 1 in my opinion, it was more action-packed and I found the story a lot more interesting than Episode 1. It still has a few bits of dialogue that can be a bit janky but overall the righting and directing is better in this film.
Also, I think that the acting is better in this film as well, but the CGI can be a little suspect at points almost reassembling a video game and not a movie. I recommend this one over Episode 1 any day and I think Star Wars fans and filmgoers alike need to give this one a second chance as the addition of the clone plot and also exploring the dark side more made this a really interesting watch.
There are two storylines : one boring and one interesting. I don't like the love story in this one because it's not done well, the lines are ridiculous and the acting is bad. I prefer when we follow Obi-Wan's investigation which is more exhilarating.
I save this movie because of Obi wan and Yoda. Poor Natalie Portman, such a good actress in an cringy-romance with hayden aka Emo Anakin
buy it: great story, visually sexy, great action scene, i rewatch it at least once a yesr
I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
I wish I could just..wish away my feelings.
I remember seeing this when it came out, I was 11 and when Yoda came out to fight Dooku I burst into laughter. I don't know why I thought it was so funny but Yoda jumping around like that is still hilarious to me.
Pretty good third act but the movie is brought down a lot by the "love story". The Obi-Wan finding the clones story line is very interesting but they keep going back to Anakin and Padme and it just kills the fun. And boy did I forget how whiny Hayden Christensen was. Probably the worst Star Wars but still a decent movie.
Lucas continues his epically bad Star Wars prequel trilogy with Episode II – Attack of the Clones. The story kicks into high gear as the Galactic Senate takes up a bill to form an Army of the Republic. Yes, it’s that exciting. With Hayden Christensen in the lead, the acting gets even worse than it was in Episode I. But that’s not all, the CGI effects are horrendously awful too. However, Lucas does ramp up the action and dials back Jar Jar Binks to a minimal role. And despite its many, many flaws, a lot of the film is pretty entertaining in one way or another. Attack of the Clones is a poorly made film that’s painful to watch, but like any car wreck it’s hard to look away.
Basically Ani just acts like a right dickhead the whole film
Better, much much better then episode one.
Me and this second Star Wars prequel have an interesting history. (I know; I say that a lot, don't I?) My first time seeing it was actually in an IMAX theater at a local museum; at the time, that place had the only supersize movie screen anywhere close by. What I didn't know until after it was over was that the IMAX version actually was shortened; as soon as me and my brother-in-law walked out of the theater, one guy said to his friend who saw it with him, "So...how much did they cut out?" Still, despite the hate this movie has gotten--it was widely considered to be the worst of the saga even before the prequel trilogy was finished--I enjoyed it; the action sequences were spot-on, and it's interesting to see the start of Anakin's journey towards the Dark Side. True, the romance was a bit overdone, but, this series isn't about lovey-dovey scenes anyway.
The one complaint I did have is that it feels a bit...well, oversexed. Between seeing Anakin shirtless and Padmé's various immodest outfits, it seems that the makers were trying to provide unnecessary eye candy for viewers of both genders. Also mildly disappointing was the single profanity; the only one in the entire prequel trilogy!
Qui Gon Jinn Would Never Join You
Episode II is marginally better than Episode I...and that's mostly down to the lack of Gungans. Everything else continues in this mess of a story started with Episode I.
...and OH MY GOD how incredibly whiny Hayden Christensen is. I know the character is probably written that way, but Jesus Christ does he do a good job being a whiny little bastard.
...and the person responsible for that farce of a romantic interlude should be shot...or at least been made to watch those sequences over and over.
The rest (the little that is left) was good. The action was decent, and the sound design made my home theatre system work for a living. The actors still seem uninterested, but who cares when we get lightsabre dancing.
Attack of the Clones is no good movie by far but shows a little bit more promise than the first one did.
The sad thing is I have to get through these travesties that are the prequel trilogies every damn time I rewatch the series...
It’s okay. Not the best, the first episode was a bit better than this. Although Anakin was a very good boy, him being arrogant after a few years seems off character. Rude, envious, a character that doesn’t fit him. Acting and the actors/actresses were great but a very boring bland storyline. 5.
It's an excellent movie, entertaining from start to finish. The subtle romance between Anakin and Padme left you begging for more. It was the perfect amount of romance without interfering with the movie's flow. I enjoyed the film and would recommend!
Palpatine: "You don't need guidance Anakin. In time, you will learn to trust your feelings. Then you will be invincible."
Not as great as The Phantom Menace but a good enough sequel. It's more of the same really but this one doesn't have as strong of an adventure and what really brings it down is the unnatural dialogue, bad acting and the story isn't the most interesting.
Hayden Christensen (Anakin) is so cringe and has no chemistry with anyone. The only redeemable performances here are Christopher Lee (Dooku) and Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan). Natalie Portman (Padme) maybe, but she's held down by the dialogue. I do like the funny character dynamics between Obi-Wan and Anakin at the beginning but they're separated pretty fast unfortunately. The romance storyline is cringe and doesn't really work, it feels forced and unnatural. I was bored through most of these scenes and wanted to get back to Obi-Wan's investigation storyline which is more interesting. Kamino and their clone factory is interesting but I dislike the focus on Jango Fett, I wanted to know more about the clones, not him.
The special effects are nothing to brag about but they look better than Episode I at least. No need to talk about the score at this point, it's freakin John Williams. The factory sequences are some of my favorites in this one, so fun, thrilling and C3PO does some of the best comedy he's ever done. The entire third act is what mostly redeems this movie, it's great action and the Yoda vs. Dooku fight is always something to look forward to. They should've gone all out with it though, comparing it to the final fight in Episode I, it's one big tease and kinda uneventful.
i fucking love star wars
You can tell George Lucas is getting better at making movies, but this movie still has many issues.
Even though “Attack of the Clones," apart from a completely ineffective romance, doesn't have as many low points as Episode I, it's still the “Star Wars” film that I like the least. In contrast to its direct predecessor, there are no standout moments, such as the Darth Maul fight. Perhaps the chase at the beginning and the revelation of all the Jedi on Geonosis are alright. And the movie at least makes you want to see more about the Clone Wars, but all in all, that's not nearly enough to make it a good movie.
Oh, God, I always forget just how bad the slapstick and punnery is, including the Oogachacka Baby-levels of CGI with Yoda jumping around during his fight with Dooku.
Not that Lucas has ever been a brilliant screenwriter, but god damn the dumbing down of Padmé to speedrun her and Anakin's relationship is still a huge sticking point for me. From a self-possessed and smart queen to just glossing over every single thing Anakin said or did, that should've been a giant red flag ("maybe we need a dictatorship" and "the Tuskens earned a little genocide, as a treat"), just kills the character she was.
Also, despite Windu and Yoda acknowledging that their abilities to use to the Force were lessened because of the Dark side, you really didn't need the Force to see just how clearly Anakin's behavior was being driven by his feelings for Padmé. Hell, even Obi-Wan had to remind him how close he was to being expelled from the order, yet Anakin was still allowed to continue escorting her all over the galaxy.
Padmé and any of the Jedi being shocked by Anakin's turn is cheapened by the writing here.
Also, "Attack of the Clones" was a horrible title seeing as we never see the clone army in battle until the last quarter of the movie, and they're only attacking on order of the Jedi.
Attack of the Clones is an improvement in some ways over The Phantom Menace, but in other ways it got worse. I have nostalgia for this one as well, so it again gets some extra points. 6.5/10 :star:
8/10
Great
Definitely the better episode,
Much more interesting and a better pacing, and past all that annoying tantrums BS from
Baby Hitler and if you can grind
through all that soppy cringe
love palaver between
Padmè and baby Hitler
The payoff sure is worth it and that alone makes this episode one of my favourites.
As soon as that purple glow
and "This Party's Over"
Boom kick-off
man I love the kickoff.
This episode has aged
much better than e1
and is far more entertaining
You just have to look
past baby Hitler and his
moods,love and it's not fair
BS.
Attack of the Clones is a notable improvement over its predecessor, The Phantom Menace, and offers more insight into the beginnings of the Star Wars saga. The movie delves deeper into the history of the Jedi, exploring their role in the galaxy and their relationship with the emerging Republic. The addition of new characters, such as the bounty hunter Jango Fett, adds an extra layer of depth to the story. Attack of the Clones is a step in the right direction for the prequel trilogy.
"Victory? Victory you say? Master Obi-Wan, not victory. The shroud of the dark side has fallen. Begun the Clone War has."
Even after watching this for the third time it is still a hot mess in a great universe. Less said the better. Puberty Anakin is just played so annoyingly by Hayden Christensen. And the back and forth between the romance between Padmé and Anakin and Obi-Wan's spy mission doesn't help the pacing in my eyes. But I have sit through what I feel is the worst Star Wars movie. So only the way up from here on out!
Anyway last end positive. We have Christopher Lee and a big battle at the end and did I even spy a child Ahsoka?
The movie was fair, not bad, nor good. There was no chemistry between most of the actors, not sure if it was the plot causing it or not but the acting was not all that great either between them but it was still star wars thus the fair rating rather then meh
THIS ONE IS SO GOOD
but anakin and padmé romance was just ???
people say that anakin is very immature and annoying but he is literally immature, as far as i know he is only 19 in this movie... but I still didn't like his character development in this.
ps: obiwan i love u
I still think it's better than the first, but the romance scenes between Padme and Anakin are insufferable and the ones in the robot factory look like a video game
I'm just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.
Anakin's development could have been better and I found the way the romance with Padmé was told a little forced. That's it.
Anakin was such a whiny, angsty teen it was just pathetic. Honestly, I’m glad he turned over to the dark side because at least he got more interesting.
I don't like Episode II. It's coarse, rough and irritating. And it gets everywhere
Better than 'Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace', though 'Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones' is again rather underwhelming - if still good on its own merits.
Liam Neeson is missed, with the likes of Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen and Christopher Lee failing to set the world alight. McGregor does give the best performance of that quartet; Christensen possibly the weakest, though his character's story is probably the most interesting - or its overall arc, at least.
Those onscreen aren't helped by the dialogue, which is very basic and run-of-the-mill. I found the score a little forgettable, even if it's still fun to hear the key pieces of it. The plot is watchable, but I did expect greater storytelling from these two follow-up releases to the original trilogy. The CGI is, marginally, an improvement on this film's predecessor.
Better, much much better then episode one.
It's like the first movie, but the special effects are missing, the action is good in the end, that battle between Count Doku, Anakin, Obi Wan and Yoda is very well done, anyway it's exactly like the first one, but it could have been better if would have been explained by Jango Feet and Boba, we don't know much about Count Doku either.
In these films there are many characters but without an explanation of where they come from, what their story is, nothing is explained.
"It benefits from an increased emphasis on thrilling action, although they're once again undercut by ponderous plot points and underdeveloped characters."
That fight in the end was good.
honestly c3po, r2d2 and yoda saved the movie
Out of all this comes last.
I don't even remember what the hell happened in this wife...jumpin around Yoda or Jar Jar? Wait don't tell me!...no, seriously..I don't care and don't wanna know
Why there are many whining watching this movies? If you don't like the movie, don't watch it.
The chemistry between Christensen and Portman doesn't exist, which is unfortunate and bring the movie down a bit, but I still enjoy this. Plenty of fun action sequences, and the clone army story is an interesting premise.
The first of all It's not bad , The SFX is great, Acting is believable but Christensen.I think plot is more twisted :Romance and etc.
Natalie Portman so dramatic and need mental helps ,I don't understand why? She is one of the Senate and still lost in romantic action???
and finally have a great time.
Christensen's acting makes this such a hard watch. Even McGregor wasn't great but I think his performance was at least believable. It was exciting to see the clones knowing what would become. For me, the prequels fulfil my need for more Yoda and more lightsabers so to be honest, that fills that quota. Still an entertaining watch but nothing ground-breaking happens like in the next episode. Except maybe we accept that Anakin's a little shit that doesn't do as he's told!
It's better than "The Phantom Menace", but only by a hair. Hayden Christiansen can't act. I'm convinced that George Lucas can't write dialogue. The plot is deeper, the tone is more adult, the development of worlds and cosmology are more fully fleshed out, but this still doesn't feel like "Star Wars", especially since it begins as a Noir Detective film set in a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
All around pretty shitty and hilarious that it is miles worse fx than the earlier 70/80s movies. If it wasn't for Yoda or Boba Fett for example being awesome i would've voted way lower!
Good action movie with excellent SFX but nothing more (at least that's what I thought after watching it for the fist time).
However after watching it again, I have to say that I begin to like this one more an more!
Like Episode I, the design and special effects are stunning to look at and Williams continues his rich vein of music for the Star Wars films. Unfortunately, the first hour suffers from unnecessary or overlong scenes that slow the film down and like the last one, it would benefit from better editing to improve the pace. However, MacGregor's Obi Wan Kenobi is a much stronger character here, no longer in Liam Neeson's shadow, and his detective story is intriguing enough to drive the first part of the film. Christensen plays Anakin as the petulant teenager that he is, but by making this the focus of his character, Lucas creates a distance between him and the audience, which makes it difficult to sympathise with him. His romance with Portman also suffers from some awful dialogue, which is also often completely unnecessary. A good edit of the film could have removed a lot of poor lines and still conveyed the gradual developing relationship between the two central characters. However, things pick up considerably for the final hour or so, with Anakin taking another step towards his destiny, and a rousing final act with the Jedi in action as the Clone Wars begin.
I liked it... Sure there is plot holes but I just choose to look past it.

Anakin going from a overly cheerful kid in Phantom Menace to a whiny moody and creepy emo doesn't exactly work. Yet I don't get the hate for this film nevertheless. The arena battle scene is exciting and fun. Obi Wan vs Jango Fett is also a under-rated scene.
While we finally got to see Yoda kick some ass even if that scene is pretty silly. No one ever expected Yoda to be as fast as Sonic the Hedgehog.
I think what gets the hate for this one; is the romance scenes between Padme and Anakin. The lines are awful in those scenes and there's a lack of chemistry. Still, I choose Attack of the Clones over Phantom Menace any day.
