Straw Dogs 1971

Overlong and a bit predictable.

Its reflections on manhood and violence is what's most interesting here. The rape is controversial to say the least, but it has several layers that can be dissected forever. It's an interesting and important film.

It is a rather violent film

Every character in this is on the wrong side of things, save the village idiot.

"Jesus. I got 'em all!"

I went in blind with this one. No clue what the film is about only that Dustin Hoffman stars in it and Sam Peckinpah is the director and oh boy this one is disturbing. From the relationship between Amy (Susan George) and David (Dustin Hofman), to the rape scene, to the whole atmosphere in that little town, to the way Janice dies and the final assault on the house were David and Amy live.

Anyway the best part for me were the final 30 minutes. The tension, disorientation and violence during the assault on the house were something else. It was totally worth the wait. Thought something would happen earlier the moment the rape scene was over but she didn't tell. I wonder if he would've jumped to action like he did when they tried to invade his "space".

So yeah, I think this one will stay with me for a long, long time. One disturbing piece of cinema worth a watch.

David: This is where I live. This is me. I will not allow violence against this house.
