Am very surprised by the negative comments on this page. While i'm not entirely convinced at the way the plot unfurled, there is still a lot to admire about the film - including the super atmospheric direction, super acting by a talented cast, and the super cool 80's vibe. A crazy tale of guilt and paranoia, there are super dark times aplenty in this engrossing thriller.
I was SOOO surprised by this movie and I did not expect to like it so much! There were so many theories about the ending, that I had to rewatch it to see if I could catch anything fishy. So I was very invested and intrigued. I had never heard of this movie when it came out. It’s rare for me to find a “hidden gem” movie, but I feel like this is that. I highly recommend. It’s frustrating that you don’t get a definitive answer about the end, but I think that was on purpose so ppl could obsess and theorize like I did.
Not your typical slasher movie. The cast did an amazing job. I love the twist. Four thumbs up!
Absolutely believable with convincing performances. The brutality made up for the slow burn moments.
Yes this is not for everyone and i'm not saying because it is artistic and crap llike that. It is super dark, It is weird in a sense of what the heck happened, how it escalated this way and how paranoid it becomes. I loved it!
Very well done, took me back to high school days, and kept me guessing a little, you keep wondering if the obvious is true, or what is going on.
Very well worth the watch. A step down from Summer of 84, if you haven't seen that yet, check it out.
Things really escalated by the end, I'm still thinking what the hell happened.
Started this movie the other night on Netflix, didn't even bother to finish. We watched about 45 min of this movie in which I already hated all of the boys and when finally something happened we just couldn't be bothered to finish it.
Uhn, i'm not so shure about the script, but i loved the 80s/90s vibe of this Movie. Josh and Zach acting are goals, and i loved the photographt and the color palette.
But at the end i was like "too much, and at the same time NOTHING fucking happened". Josh could be more explored too.
But.....aesthetic goals
The first thing I noticed was the dialogue. It was a bit annoying. It tried to portray some kids acting natural andas pals, but it was moronic and unrelatable. I got the feeling this movie was aimed at teens, and I feared the worse. One character is so vulgar that when he dies I couldn't have cared less. So I didn't get drawn in when maybe I should have. I was just glad I'd never get to here him say 'FUUUCK' again.
You know how setting things in the 80s is hip and cool? Well now we're onto the 90s. To be fair this didn't milk the setting for sheer nostagia - hmm Stranger Things! I was a teen in the 90s and this movie did capture some of that time spent, like wandering around on bikes looking for stuff to do, as well as the types of social groups and bumping into general assholes.
I didn't feel the story was very intense or dramatic considering the subject matter. I thought the acting was good.
It felt slow after a while, and I didn't feel any dark suspense or mystery to fill the void. A lot of scenes didn't have any impact. The script seemed to revolve around Zach too much, and he was pretty bland. Did he ever have anything interesting to say? Did he ever behave interesting? No. Worst of all it was so unbelievable how Josh had his personality change since the accident. He somehow turns into a ridiculous slasher guy, and we never really got to see how. Shame because the guy playing Josh was great and his character was the best at the start.

I loved this movie, but it's not for everyone. It's not a mainstream nostalgia fest a la Stranger Things, but a suspenseful character based drama/horror movie.
From the start, theres tension and intensity, but not in the actions we see unfold on screen (except towards the end), but in the way it sets up the relationships and the atmosphere. There's a sense of dread and doom from the start, and it just gets more and more pronounced throughout the movie, until the violent end.
I hope people give this movie a chance and definitely don't stop before the end!
