It's not a good movie but I give it 6 for its charm and some of the gender differences shown. How for Supergirl the first concern is not to get raped. And how beautiful the flying was when she was not imitating superman.
This is bad even by 1980s standards. I remember watching it back than but not remembered much of the movie itself. Thought I re-live some 80s nostalgia but I symply couldn´t make it.
The story is downright stupid, the acting is awful althought there are some good actors involved. But everyone is over-acting his role to a point where this could almost pass as a persiflage which I am sure wasn´t the intention. The effects are OK for the timeframe but that is about it. It might sound too harsch but it isn´t something one should waste his or hers time with
She really is a beautiful super heroine.
Not better than the first two Superman movies. Though maybe better than Superman 3-4. Helen Slater makes are beautiful and likable Supergirl. The movie just has a silly villain, dull love interest and a weak plot. Slater definitely gives it her all though and the musical score may not be John Williams but it has a charm to it.
The Superman legacy continues in the spin-off film Supergirl. The story follows Superman’s cousin Kara, who comes to Earth in search of the Omegahedron; an unlimited power source that a sorceress is using to pursue world domination. It’s a horrible plot that makes no sense, and the storytelling is weak. Newcomer Helen Slater stars as Supergirl, and gives a fair performance. However, co-stars Faye Dunaway, Peter O’Toole, and Brenda Vaccaro chew up the scenery. A blight on the Superman franchise, Supergirl has some campy fun to it, but it’s poorly made and has no vision.
The character of the antagonist is the storyline bottom. But you can see the progress in making the film, i.e. flying is already quite ok. :) And Slater played well, which cannot be said about the rest of the main cast.
Why Peter O'Toole?
Supergirl is basically like Superman 3 & 4 all over again. Corny one liners that can make everyone cringe, bad visual effect's and flat directing. Overall Supergirl is just another bad superhero flick.
It's a bad b-movie, period. The character development is inexistent, the direction of actors awful (though Selena's sidekick Bianca gets a few fun lines and is probably the least horrible part, such good actors as peter O'Toole, Mia Farrow and Faye Dunaway are totally wasted in this farce), the plot is inconsistent. The special effects are what they are for the era, but even then there were better ones in other sci-fi movies.
It does manage a certain charm however in its quaintness which makes it not a total waste of time, if you manage to suspend you brain activity, or maybe if you've eaten lots of hash brownies :). Otherwise do no bother.

Didn't enjoy it that much as i thought i will be. I remember it from my youth years with fond but it was pretty lame. Nothing happened in the movie, everything was so fast and without any plot. Bad for a b-movie as well.
