At this point "Dread Central presents" is code for really bad flicks for me (excluding international imports)... Yes, the creepy mute clown idea isn't bad (and would fit in with other iconic horror characters) but somehow this ended up way worse than the already weak anthology he spawned from. The script is absolute garbage. Nothing is made off the "Halloween" setting and you can really tell that they had no idea how to get to 90 minutes because not only is it full of dumb clichés but they also bring in characters when they need a quick kill. I was bored out of my mind before the the mid point and I can only stomach so many "UHHHH, I STABBED HIM ONCE, LEFT MY WEAPON THERE AND NOW I'LL CERTAINLY RUN TO SAFETY AND HE WILL TOTALLY NOT COME BACK" moments > lmao at the terrible wooden plank scene. There's a surprisingly gory kill in there but the rest cannot even shine there due to editing/FX.
Terrifier is terrifying! David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown truly is terrifying, we witness the rise of a great antagonist on the path of becoming a horror icon. He's unpredictable, demented and charismatic in a twisted way. His makeup and costume looks better. The gore, the kills and the violence is extreme, off-putting and gratuitous. Despite it's low budget it still manages to do some amazing looking practical effects. My favorite moment was when he tried on that skin , that was so weird and creepy! Also the selfie, hilarious.
Apart from Art the Clown who was solid the acting was bad all around. The story is non-existent it's Art being creepy and going around killing people, that's it. With a better script and story this could of been something really special. I hope Terrifier 2 gives Art a better story because he deserves it.
It seems like I've watched this previously but I don't remember it being this good; I'm wondering if I watched the "old" version (which didn't seem all that great). In any event, some of the best advice about this movie I found by reading some of the other comments: disengage your brain and just enjoy the show. As a movie, it has plot holes big enough to fly a C140 cargo transport through, but as just a good ol' fashioned splatter/horror movie this was hard to beat. Yeah, there's not a lot of depth to it, but the acting was passable - for the most part - and the character of Art the Clown was superb. There were a lot - A LOT - of scenes that were ridiculously unbelievable but again, if you're just watching this for the sake of enjoying a great horror flick, you have to disengage your brain and just enjoy this one. For what it was, this was an absolutely great movie; I think one of the things that made me despise the (early) Friday the 13th franchise was the fact that it was a horror movie that THOUGHT it was a horror movie...and it was utterly ridiculous. Here, it's almost like Terrifier is just telling a story that happens to be horrific. And it pulls it off like a champ. If you watch this thinking you're going to get a great movie that is deeply profound yet incredibly creepy, you won't; if you're looking for something that is wonderfully gory with an awesome antagonist, you'll probably love this one. I know I did.
Terrible pacing, feels a hundred years long I had to put it at high speed in some places. Pretty gory but in a silly way really, it's not shot or acted like it's supposed to be taken too seriously. "Story" doesn't make any sense, obviously.
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Terrifier’:
Art is a great horror villain. That bloody grin with those sunken eyes and creepy theatrics are the stuff of nightmares. He deserves a franchise and a bigger budget.
Yeah, the acting was cringy at times, but it totally lends to that B-movie homage. And, for what I imagine to be a fairly small budget, the practical effects were somewhat impressive.
I wouldn’t necessarily go around raving about this film as a must-see, but if a friend were to add this to their Halloween night watch list, I would encourage it.
UPDATED THOUGHT: On a second watch, I would definitely designate this as a must-see for horror fans.
Awesome new slasher flick. Lots of gore, some characters you actually like, and a creepy-ass, effective killer. Even if they don't make any more of these movies, Art the Clown will go down as one of the classic slashers.
I usually enjoy slasher films with a lot of blood and gore. But the way "Terrifier" does it isn't really my cup of tea. There's no sense of fun here; the movie is vicious and disgusting to the max. I do not blame the film at all for being an ultra-low-budget production. To a certain extent, it's understandable that it looks amateurish in places. Nevertheless, the weak performances, underdeveloped characters, ugly look, and questionable dialogue bothered me quite a bit. A reasonably coherent story is also missing. On the other hand, director Damien Leone sticks to his ultra-hard and uncompromising approach. That's something I can appreciate, especially since the makeup effects are impressive. "Terrifier" is definitely not for me, but I can at least partially understand the cult status.
I really liked this. It is kind of out there, but lots of practical effects. The story line as thin as it was held interest....but the effects and mood are there. If you like gory slasher - this is one to watch.
I'm not a gory horror fan, I prefer the creepy suspense type, so this was perhaps a bad choice but in my defense I knew nothing about the film going in. The clown was enjoyably creepy but the relentlessly gory violence, which often went on too long, kinda undermined it. As others have said, the acting is a bit of a mixed bag, not that the genre is a stranger to bad acting...
Re: the choice of closing scene, I personally would have ended it on the clown coming back to life (as cliched as that would be), since the the girl turning around with no face was hardly an "OMG NO WAY" cliffhanger as the film opened with her murderous interview appointment so we knew what her face looked like. They also never explained either any of Art's backstory or why the girl killed her interviewer at the start, unless his evilness is meant to somehow be contagious.
The clown killer was suitably creepy and demented but that's pretty much all I'd recommend about this film.
Soooo Captain Spaulding DID have a son
I came in not expecting much.. but what an utter waste of time and an absolute trash flick. The acting was diabolical, and the scrip even worse.
How many times did someone stab, hit, and knock the killer clown on conscious only to run away as if he isn’t going to get back up.
There were no positives for me, the silent killer clown idea and sheer gore keeps it from being 1/10, I feel like I need a break from horror films after this trash.
Terrifier (Terrible). Where the good ratings came from is beyond me. This really is terrible. I scored it 4/10 as its not the worst horror flick out there. They had some good points, the clown, the death effects werent too bad, the scene. Could have been so much better and could really use some back story to explain why the clown can survive blowing his head off etc.
Gore horror with a clown that looks like Marilyn Manson in costume.
It is a bad movie and kinda boring at some point.
This is more a showcase of practical gore effects than anything else. With a minimal to non existent plot the film will miss most for viewers other than the gore hounds.
Despite loving all things horror, I somehow never got around to checking this one out. I am admittedly ashamed it took me so long. Horror is not known for big budgets or great acting. This is far and away from either. But this is prime grade B horror. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, it’s gory (with not great effects), and it’s almost funny opposed to scary - or Terrifying if you will. When you hear of movies being “so bad, it’s good”, this is the cream of the crop. It’s worth watching for all horror fans, just don’t expect a masterpiece.
Rating: 3/5 - 7.5/10 - Worth Watching
Terriblier started off promising in the pizza shop but as soon as it changed to the building, the already weak plot completely fell apart. No jump scares and no story, just gore results in boredom. How many times was the antagonist overcome yet wasn’t finished off, just let’s run to the locked door or jammed window. All Hallows Eve 1 and 2 were better and that isn’t saying much. Horror fans avoid at all costs. 3/10.
Would have rated it higher, but the movie breaks one of the sacred unwritten rules of slaher genre: antagonist must never use a gun
Brutal slasher fun. The constant taunting was great.
I don't care what anyone says, this movie is so good! I love everything about it and Art is the creepiest clown ever. It's a must every October to get in the spooky mood. I'm so excited to see the sequel.
An average slasher movie where a creepy as funk clown butchers people the night of Halloween. Even though it’s quite impressive for an amateur movie, I expected something more conceptual. The splatter moments are pretty amusing, though. I bet the sequel will tell us if Art the Clown is a con or a misunderstood genius.
a solid 9 out of 10! this piece of cinema is creepy, seedy, and campy! And I love it!
I think this movie isn't as bad as a lot of people stated. It's a good horror movie, with good old classic vibes (it is clearly inspired by Halloween and other similar classics). The killer was good, the rest of the cast too (not perfect but not even the worst), and there was suspense. Some gore here and there, and that's it.
I have seen waaaay worse movies...
Quick review; gets right to the point, really creepy clown, gore fest, not scary, bloody, shocking, B flick, and the clown has a personality. If that sounds interesting, you might enjoy the movie.
What a waste of time. I actually thought there's a story here, or there could be a reason why it's rated as (at least) 6/10. It's barely even a 3 or 4. :sob: Definitely trash. I didn't enjoy even the gore, and I love gore!
I get what they were trying to do here, but holy cow this was awful. It can't even really be taken as a fun, cheesy slasher. It's just bad. I have no idea where all the praise is coming from. No story, no funny bits, and horrible acting. Some of the kills were cool, but sorry - that can't save it.
Can't believe i watched this movie till the end. The cast sucked. It was terrible. At least the clown was terrifying enough.
A good, fun time. The fact that the killer was completely silent, not even a Kane Hodder grunt was muttered, was pretty awesome. A fun movie. Had a decent amount of practical effects too, always a plus.
I've watched a number of heated debates over this movie on Reddit. I fall in the "it's okay" category. A good portion of the acting is less than good. INCLUDING the clown. His acting looks better when next to the rest of the decent acting, but it's not as stunning as people seem to think. Across the board, this movie has some entertaining moments, but it falls short of being something I want to watch more than once.
Perfect. 80s throwback style, No agenda. No life lesson messages. Just Art the Clown versus people in the warehouse. Unpredictable too. not often a word you use in slasher flicks.
"INSTANT CLASSIC"
10+/10
Greatness on a Different Level
THIS MOVIE IS FRICKIN AWESOME, NOW THIS IS WHY HORROR IS MY FAVOURITE GENRE. ART IS FANTASTIC
AND A MASTER AT HIS CRAFT. HE DEFINITELY KNOWS HOW TO GET THE JOB DONE WHEN HE
GOES TO WORK, HE'S EVIL
SADISTIC AS HELLA BUT HE'S SO BLOODY FUNNY
AND ENTERTAINING WITH IT AND THE WAY HE ABSOLUTELY DISMANTLES HIS VICTIMS,
HONESTLY THIS HAS EVERYTHING
I WANT IN A HORROR MOVIE
AND MORE. HE'S RELENTLESS
AND WHAT I LOVE IS HE ENJOYS
HIS OWN HANDY WORK AS MUCH AS I DO
(He'll take a moment to enjoy
his own work before moving on
to the next victim).
WHY OH WHY CAN'T THEY PULL
AWESOMENESS OFF LIKE THIS TODAY.
I HOPE WE SEE ALOT MORE OF
ART THE CLOWN IN THE FUTURE.
(a 3rd Installment is in
prodution)
THIS MOVIE IS SENSATIONAL
WITH EXCELLENT GORE
LOADS OF COOL DEATH'S
AND PLENTY OF BLOOD AND GRUESOMNESS,
AND ONE OUTSTANDING DECAPITATION
AND ONE HELLA OF A HORROR ICON
"Frickin Spectacular"
"Toatal Perfection
for my 31 days of Horror"
VERDICT: THIS MOVIE IS SO FCUKING COOL
"HEY IT'S HALLOWEEN AND EVERYONE'S ENTITLED TO ONE GOOD SCARE"
ART WILL RETURN
Finally got around to seeing this one. Shock gore galore with a well played villain even if the lack of any plot brought it down. Art the clown is pretty spectacular as a villain. I'm not a huge fan of obsessive shock gore, but for a 45k budget they did pretty well. A lot of it is so overkill to a super campy level that you can't take it seriously and I suppose that is the point, but at 1hr25 it was still too long. I was bored with the schtick pretty early on as good as Art's performance was. The sequel is apparently significantly better, but also an hr longer. I'll watch that and compare accordingly. 4.0 here.
It's a dogshit movie...but if your a slasher fan you probaby like bad movies.
(don't mean that as an insult... It's just a genre by self)
A horrid, nasty film. No entertainment value just sadistic weirdo porn. Misogynistic at its core with no motivation other than "torture women"
Terrifier is nothing but a low-budget gorno film. The lack of story and character development leaves you watching the heinous acts in disgust rather than fear. However, Art's appearance is exceptional and David Howard Thornton plays him perfectly. With some good writing and a bigger budget, Art could provide horror fans with something worthwhile.
It was pretty much what I expcted it to be. But some of the scenes are unrealistic, it is much harder and takes a lot more time to cut a body in half vertically, as well as decpaiting an adult.
There is no story! What a terrible plot. It is just a psycho clown, apparently with supernatural powers -according to the final scene with the lights going off and on- that just kills people after torturing. It is just blood and screaming. This is not a movie, it is just a videotape from people who couldn't think of any plot.
For me, this horror is quite unique. Cause its the only one where I actually like all the characters. We love Mike. What a dude!
This guy wrote this whole movie for one scene.
Randomly picked this movie and well, it was great but it wasn't that bad either. For people who like slasher + ultimate gore movies, this is considered pretty. The effects are great, too much gore for me but considering how people were killed off so gorily, it's considered somewhat decent i guess? (I know I'm conflicting myself here XD i didn't know it would have so much gore else i wouldn't even watch it. Like i said it was a random pick of the night. My bf enjoyed the gore to the max tho)
Storyline wise, it does suck towards the ending. Victims in the show did not care to make much attempt to save their own lives. I went from "omg, i can't watch this..." to "kill her!! Kill her alreadyyyy!!" I wanted those people to be able to make their escape but the way it was done, you just can't help but think how stupid their attempts were and they had it coming. The attempt to escape was just so poorly executed you just know they're there, to be slaughtered. As many times as the clown got hit, no one bothered to just kill him good even when they saw how horribly the other's died. The special effects and make up was definitely the highlight of the show to me but other than that, the show is just kinda ehhh...
In the most simple terms possible, this is a blood and guts “B” rated gore movie. It wasn’t trying to be more than what it was. It’s a confident “B” rated movie that knows exactly where it stands, and not trying to be something it’s not.
:heart:x6
Here's the deal. . . This is not a great movie, but it is fun to watch, with the right attitude.
I found it to be a hilarious comedy, and a bit gruesome.
The clown is very funny and fun to watch. There is like 1 or 2 quality kills, the rest are your basic horror movie deaths.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Slasher that looks like it was made in the 80s, in which Dario Argento would be proud of the deaths. Watch out for Art the clown
I almost gouged my eyes out.
return it to 1970.
A throwback to the 80s dumb slashers of old, Terrifier has all the hallmarks; terrible acting, goofy deaths and an animated, impossible-to-kill antagonist that's sure to be a cult favourite. It's very much a run of the mill slasher that is over the top and silly for sillies sake. You'll know before even pressing play if this movie is for you or not, and for me it was largely a miss. I am intrigued to know if the sequel manages to flesh out the lore of Art and where he came from, or if they go Mike Myers and leave him ultimately unexplained. We shall see.
I was into it at first but then it kind of keeps going and lost me. As mentioned, the practical effects and mean spiritedness are what the movie coasts on but it ends up being a chore. I can’t imagine what a sequel that is an hour longer will be like
Better than I expected, since I went into this expecting trash, but instead got an enjoyable slasher with a terrifying lead killer.
I mean, this clown at some point in the movie nukes a public bathroom with his shit.
The best part of this movie is when you turn it off and watch another one.
should've named it Terrible because it's horrifically bad
Saw this based on a recommendation, then realized the recommendation was for Terrified, not Terrifier.
This would have been classified as a video nasty in the 80's, but now it just sits atop a pile of every other gore flick that is released online every year. It's not awful, the clown is creepy, but I wouldn't like to see a sequel.
I give it a threeifier, and await the fourthest installment in this series.
Simply put, the Terrifier was terrifyingly terrible.
A cheap slasher flick with some good looking effects and one brutal, brutal kill. But one that is done more painfully in another film. But Art did well.
A mute clown stalking and killing people. Art the clown means business and likes to write his name with feces. He uses everything, he even uses guns. He doesn't care.
So, yeah, if you want to see a clown stalking and murder everyone in its path and smile, make selfies, smile some more, than this is the one for you! With its 85 minute runtime, which could've been 10 minutes shorter, it does what I believe it sets out to do.

Things to note before watching:
- It doesn't take itself to seriously
- It's gory
- It's somewhat self aware that it's crap
- Don't take it too seriously
- It's a good film if you're not invested in watching it.
I was told it was not the greatest film, nor was it trying to be, and by having this prefaced to me, I enjoyed it within the context of what it is; shit and fun.
