The Bone Collector 1999

Nice thriller based on an "oldie and rookie" storyline. They have a rough start, but as they work on solving the cases together they build trust and appreciation. Denzel is the typical himself, Angelina is doing a great job at hiding her good looks behind a charismatic character. Too bad there was no sequel with this duo! Because the ending did seem to leave this unfulfilled promise...

Denzel Washington have this thing, maybe he wants to raise his own morale, I dont know, but all his roles are like that, a 'regular joe' who struggled very hard in life and now it's smart and excelent at whatever he does!

That's kind good in one movie, maybe two, but in a lot of them? No, thanks. It's just like Mel Gibson in 90's movies. The same story in different movies, places and periods.
Just take The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 for example, and you'll get my point.

Angelina Jolie, for me, means nothing. She's not good nor bad, and I don't think she's pretty or hot like many think she is, so, whatever actress would do better in her place.

The story is not that bad, but, today it doesn't work for me anymore like it used to when it was released, maybe I've seen too many movies like that, maybe I'm just growing old and getting boring, can't say.

What I can say is: Just a regular Joe swimming in the Hollywood sea.

Decent thriller. Denzel is good, Angelina is good, story is good, direction is okay.

Worth a watch.

7/10

For some reason I have never really seen this movie. Maybe because I was too young when it came out. Now in 2021 I finally watched it and I gotta say I really enjoyed it. Angeline Jolie is always a pleasure to watch anf the storyline was quite compelling.

Good cast but still manages to feel a bit dull and generic. I’m sure being overtired during the viewing didn’t help but I was struggling to stay interested and awake.

I figured out who the killer was halfway through the movie.

It's always the one that comes for 1 or 2 scenes, who doesn't have a backstory explained.

A movie of it's era, still very watchable today thinks to Washington, well supported here by Jolie and Latifa. If you liked these kinds of thrillers from the last century, you will probably enjoy this one

The Bone Collector is an intense crime thriller that gives a little too much away, but still delivers a captivating mystery. The story follows a paralyzed forensic specialist who takes on a young protégé in order to solve the murders of a serial killer. The casting is especially good, and includes Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie, Ed O’Neill, and Michael Rooker. Washington and Jolie have a particularly good chemistry that helps to draw the audience into the film. Additionally, the story is fairly well written and uses some interesting motifs for the serial killings that make them unique and interesting. There are some problems with the last act, but overall The Bone Collector is a compelling and suspenseful film.

It is not a "Seven", but it is also good.

The book it's based on is very good, unfortunately this doesn't transfer to what is an extremely pedestrian screenplay.
Lincoln Rhyme's skills, which are well told in the original story, are handled like a bad word association game in the movie, with blindingly obvious or ridiculously extreme leaps as connections, though this is forgivable considering the medium. It also doesn't help that LR is portrayed by Denzel (probably the worst actor ever to be considered a good actor) who struggles to pull off the intricacies of the complex crippled detective and comes off wooden and restricted in delivery instead of convincing in his hindered movement.
The ending is atrocious, feeling rushed, random, and exposition heavy all while leaving numerous loose ends untied.
