Despite the all-star cast, apparently there's a reason why I "discovered" this movie on a Spanish-language channel & none of the actors mention they did this cinematic garbage on "Entertainment Tonight." It's just another loud action movie w/ a non-sensical story & overpaid actors slumming their way through trite dialogue. The only benefit is it makes my big screen TV look good, but the film's better enjoyed w/ the volume up while washing dishes or using your phone nearby instead of actively following the atrocious movie. Also for some reason Javier Bardem looks like Brad Garrett playing a drug lord.
I couldn't believe the low rating with all those great actors, but it's true.
This movie is as boring as they get.
The only amusement came from the stupid stories Javier Bardem told.
i think the problem people are having is in the expectation of a thing, and then the actuality of what it is and was intended to be.
don't expect action or character development beyond the bare minimum required to execute the message, which is overtly communicated in ways most will likely find unappealing, but for those looking for Cormac McCarthy mixed with Ridley Scott, i honestly believe this is exactly what you would hope for, if not even better.
i think many will re-asses this over time, if they haven't already, and hopefully realize what i believe to be an exceptional cinematic work of art, quite unique as it knowingly waxes philosophy and dread all throughout, as one would "hope", given it was penned by Cormac McCarthy.
mix that with Ridley behind the camera to bring the dark realities that truly exist in our world to "life" in grand cinematic fashion, letting your imagination do the work where it hurts most, and what you have is exactly what i would hope it to be.
once the ball starts rolling down the hill it thought it could peek over, it was already determined to end up at the very bottom of a plane of existence that you would do best to believe only exists in nightmares, because the sad fact is we are living in it as i am typing this post.
One of the worst movies I have ever seen. So much talent for such a flaming bag of garbage.
30 minutes in and I can't go through with it.
Ridley Scott and a top notch cast. What could possibly go wrong?
Everything. Not one saving grace in this overwritten mess of a non-story.
Never before have so many talented people come together to offer so little. What a waste.
Was it supposed to put me to sleep?
One of the worst movies i have ever saw. There is no goal, no finish line, no sense.
Yes, the cast gives its best. But the story is not only presented boring, it is boring.
Mala de cojones. No tiene el más mínimo sentido. Aburre hasta los muertos. Pérdida total de tiempo. No fui capaz de terminarla
Great actors, acting, but horrible, horrible script.
Use drugs before going to see this, that's the only way you Might get it (trust me, there's nothing to GET). A waste of time and money. And watch out for wires! Damn, stupid movie.
I watched it to see if the user comments were accurate.
They are.
Save your time and move on. There's nothing to see here.
Simply perfect garbage, the only good thing in this movie is brad pitt
Anyone else glad about Reiner and Westray's demise? It really pissed me off how lowkey amused they were about The Counselor getting himself into deep shit. Then they were like k thx bye, hope it works out for ya. Like the damage won't catch up with them as well. Pfff. They were as naive as he was.
So many good actors so f** bad script. What is the meaning?????
Drowns under the weight of cryptic dialogue and abstract storytelling.
Un script très épars.. sans tête ni queue. On a l'impression qu'il manque quelque chose pour former un bon film. C'est très dommage d'avoir un panoplie d'acteur, et de pondre un navet pareil. À ne pas regarder...!
Visually its stunning but a moral tale and lesson is too preachy for my taste.. Trying to save the film with moral lessons is a childish.. Love Ridley Scott but he has no future in social work..
Found it somewhat difficult to grasp it all. Perhaps i should read the book?
Except the actor names it offers nothing else!
Good actors, poor script and sequence. Bardem and fassbender 10/10. Cameron Diaz awful
Rather disappointed with this one. There's literally nothing to get out of this movie. I'm struggling to find the purpose of it and I'm really not sure what I just spend over two hours watching. Great actors, though. Michael Fassbender in particular is perfect for his rather emotional role in the movie.
Despite all the bad reviews, I really wanted to go see The Counselor anyway. I was hoping to probably find something that could be interesting or important to me that others might have missed. But unfortunately no, it is true. The Counselor had everything to be a great film and it's not.
A director with a reputation, a great writer, a cast full of amazing actors, all together weren't able to do nothing for this film.
The Counselor is such a mess! Sometimes it's so hard to find the meaning to what you are seeing and the story has no complexity that all, so that should not happen.
Theres no background story also. I would like to have seen some things or at least know some things that happened before what I was watching to be more clarified.
Michael Fassbender and Javier Bardem are two of my favorite actors and I was super excited to see this film most of all because of them, so I really hope to see them do a good film together in the future but not something like this.
It was such an insignificant film for me that as soon as it ended I didn't even knew if I had liked it or not. A huge disappointment.

I need Wikipedia to guide me through this film...
