Awesome moody horror movie. It's very unsettling! Uses loss, fear, depression to create the atmosphere. It was genuinely terrifying. The jumpscares were executed really well.

I really enjoyed this movie.:clap_tone1:

The film is all about madness at best. Main characters lose their mind and we watch their hallucinations. All the religious references in the film leads to nowhere. The film has a few good jump scares and quite a good beginning which makes you think the rest of the film is going to get somewhere. Unfortunately it doesn’t. I wouldn’t watch it again, nor would I make my friends watch it.

Stupid slow and stupid is what you’d have to be to sit through the whole movie.

Solidly creepy in parts, but agonizingly slow and confusing in others. Flops over and wiggles around like a dead fish for the last 5 minutes.

wow this is a really unsettling movie. great atmosphere, really nice sounddesign and no cheap jumpscares. its not your typical haunted house horror movie. it gives you something to think about and lets you alone in the end. mean and fantastic at the same time. i really liked it a lot.

There were some scary moments, but I'm going to have to say that it was kind of repetitive and a dull.

Death of the parents is again at the center of a horror movie. With "Relic" (2020), introduces again the feeling of pain turned into terror within a family. Bertino uses these resources to build an atmosphere that is always unsettling. Apart from some imbalances in its execution, we are facing a solid film that again, as in "The strangers" (2008), builds an external threat that is the mirror of an internal flaw.

What a scary, incredible movie, a sinister story that involves you from start to finish, everything is very raw, very macabre, the performances are amazing.

Honestly, it was an 8 out of 10 up to the final scene, during which the "creatives" decided that it was worth scrapping the entire payoff and the starting premise for extra edgelord points. Oh, and it ends on a jump scare. Now, I'm not saying that people who do this are worse than Hitler... but they are pretty high up there.

It was really great until the very end. Super suspenseful and foreboding with only a few jump scares. But it was almost like they ran out of money at the end and just needed the movie to be over. With a better ending, this would have been a gem of a movie.

What a monumental bore. Tedious and nonsensical too.

I had this come as a recommendation on Reddit but it was so slow paced with very little payout.

Dark atmosphere alone isn’t enough to make this worth watching. The best part is the gorgeous movie poster.

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘The Dark and the Wicked’:

  1. Stupid characters making stupid decisions. Always fun.

  2. This movie was all mood and no substance. Sufficiently creepy, but I needed to care when all was said and done. I didn’t.

  3. Towards the end, I saw this vague hodgepodge of haunted house / possession cliches coming together to maybe make some revelatory sense. But then it ended. And that was that.

It ain't no the VVitch, boring and not scary

I'm sorry but what the actual eff was that ending

It did scare me. The plot is very basic though. For me, I like that they kept the plot simple. The movie deals with death and isolation. 7/10

An oppressive little horror film. Its well made but with all of the madness going on, it can get quite wearying.
